Its central location is a hit among travelers for city exploration, though some caution about potential noise.

Detailed Reviews
Found this hotel by chance when looking for somewhere to stay for the bank holiday weekend and managed to get a great no-cancellation rate.
The hotel is on one of the main streets in Cardiff and the entrance is slightly hidden within an arcade. Parking is not available at the hotel but can be easily found at the nearby Greyfriars NCP car park (Pro Tip: Download the NCP Parkpass app - I stayed for 48 hours for £9 vs the daily rate of £28).
Really warm welcome on reception with big perspex screens and reception staff in masks. Visitors are not asked to wear masks in common areas. Check in was quick and easy.
I had a room on the third floor overlooking the shopping street and was worried about noise. It was however, pretty quiet. Only thing that could be heard was occasional shouting from people on the street but it wasn't enough to disturb.
My room was very comfortable and well equipped. Large bed, desk area, chair and table. Tea/coffee making facilities and a bonus of a fridge.
Due to COVID, there is no cleaning taking place during your stay (I think unless you stay longer than 5 nights) but I saw people requesting extra supplies from reception so I don't think this would be a problem for anyone.
There is a bar & restaurant within the hotel but I cannot comment as I didn't visit. I did order room service which was really easy and arrived quickly. Food was of a decent standard.
Overall, this hotel is a great little find. Fantastic location for pretty much anything in Cardiff (minutes to the castle, shopping area and arenas - less than 30 minute walk to the Bay). The staff are a real credit to the hotel. everyone I met was helfpul, polite and friendly!

We stayed here on a Saturday night whilst visiting friends in Cardiff. The hotel is centrally located on Cardiff’s pedestrianised Queen Street, one of the best spots to access all of the city’s highlights, and a 15 minute walk from the central station via the shopping centre. Check-in was quick and efficient and our room (on the 5th floor) was beautifully designed around music with spotlights, drumstick lamps and images of Wales’ musical icons, with tweed cushions a coal scuttle bin, and steel/wood furniture in casters. We had a high bed which was really comfortable with just enough firmness for a deep snooze. Our room had all mod cons with classy toiletries and a modern bathroom with top of the range grohe bathroom fittings. It was very quiet at night and no interruptions from staff early morning. All of the staff were young, friendly and polite. The live music in the bar which comprised a bass guitarist, beat box drummer and a young female singer and guitarist was excellent and a late happy hour (from 10pm to midnight) meant a good audience and atmosphere.
Highly recommended if you are staying in Cardiff and want a bit of luxury.

We stayed at this hotel in July 2020 after the COVID-19 lockdown started to ease. The hotel has clearly thought through all of the necessary precautions e.g. hand sanitising stations, screens at the check-in desk, PPE for staff and one way systems. This was our first stay away from home since lockdown and we were pleased with the cleanliness of the room and hotel. The staff were welcoming and friendly and we were able to check out an hour later free of charge. This was a nice touch.
Our room was a Superior Queen room and it was decorated really well. The room included a Smart TV, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, bathroom essentials and a bathrobe. The bed was big but we found the pillows were not very comfy.
We had breakfast included in our room rate and were told we would need to collect it from the cafe/coffee shop downstairs which is part of the hotel. We didn’t know what to expect as we knew a buffet was not going to be available. We were pleasantly surprised with the choice and being able to have a selection of food and drink to takeaway. We took it back to our room and we enjoyed everything.
Some small issues. There was only one bathrobe in our room but there were 2 of us. The Smart TV wasn’t connected to the internet (and we couldn’t connect it ourselves) so we could not use all the features. The conditioner in the shower was empty. These were only minor issues and did not greatly impact our stay.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and were pleasantly surprised with how normal it felt. The hotel is abiding by Government guidance and the staff were very friendly and helpful if anything was needed. Thank you!

Enjoyed a lovely two night stay the hotel indigo. The hotel is right on the high street so perfect for shopping, eating out and visiting the castle (3 minute walk), Cardiff bay area (35 minute walk), the stadium and more. The hotel is clean, employed great social distancing measures with all of their friendly staff wearing masks and is beautifully decorated throughout.
Room:
The rooms were well equipped although one towel and robe provided for two guests, but quickly rectified on request. The room was very comfortable with an amazing shower.
Our room overlooked the high street which although was quiet the first night, it was rather noisy in the second night (a Friday) when the pubs were closing which woke us up several times but cant be helped.
The room wasn’t serviced which was presumably covid related and preferred by us personally given our short stay but this wasn’t mentioned at checkin so unsure if there was an option for this is you stay longer.
Restaurant:
The added bonus was the Marco Pierre White restaurant on the top floor. We ended up eating there both nights as the food, service and socially distant atmosphere was perfect for our short stay. The restaurant also provided a 20% discount due to staying in the hotel (although we only realised due to overhearing another guest being informed of this at checkin and it also wasn’t advertised).
Parking:
The nearest parking was in an NCP which was less than 5 minutes walk. The hotel do a discounted rate at around £21 per night payable at the hotel, rather than the £28 NCP price.
Overall, I would highly recommend the hotel and would certainly stay again without hesitation.

I can understand why this hotel is currently the no1 of hotels in Cardiff on Trip Advisor. The reception staff were helpful and friendly and our room was spacious and quiet with free water in the fridge (1 sparkling and 1 still) along with plenty of tea and coffee sachets along with two Welsh caramel waffle biscuits to enjoy!
An iron and ironing board and towelling robes were also provided to use and the bathroom was very clean with a spacious shower and the toiletries supplied were great and smelled divine.
The room is very clean, comfortable with great decor and also had a rocking chair in the corner.
I can’t comment on the breakfast as we didn’t use, but had lunch in Marcos and the waiting staff were very helpful and friendly.

The Minute I Walked in the joint.
Ha ha apologies to Shirley Bassey but the minute I walked in the joint I could see it was a place of distinction. Opulently, quirky and decidedly decadent and that’s only the reception area. With a huge nod to Welsh heritage and tradition if you like a hammer with coat hangers attached and an old fashioned scuttle as a waste basket then this is the place for you.
I place a heavy emphasis on pre- stay as well as the actual stay. Ami on front of house was the star of the show always answering any concerns regarding my reservation including changing my original dates dues to Covid. Ami at all times put the customer first, a credit to the IHG brand. All the front of house I came across including Katie,Karis and Jacques were exemplary and genuinely happy to help..
Our room 404 along with the charming off beat layout included robes, slippers and complimentary mini bar and a choice of traditional kettle or espresso. A nice touch was a welcome in welsh on one of the mirrors.
One minor hic cup was when we went for our three course evening meal which was include in our rate the “Greeter” (in name only) bellowed out are we using a discount voucher. She then proceeded to plonk us right in the middle of a walkway. I asked would it be possible to sit by one of the empty seats by the window. No came the reply not possible. So it was no pleasantries, no smile, no interaction and definitely no window seats. The saving grace of the restaurant was our waitress from Slavonia and the bar man Andrew both excellent, thankfully were not in the same mould as the greeter.
I entered breakfast with trepidation, there was a queue our greeter was cleaning tables, attending to the queue and explaining the procedure to first time diners. The greeter whose name was Lee who was the total opposite to the night before asked where we would like to be seated, smiling, gregarious and joking obviously enjoying his work and was at ease juggling his work load. He really was a breath of fresh air and restored my faith in the restaurant.
It really is a place of distinction with staff to match, if you want a hotel full of individuality with attention to detail and be treated as an individual then this is a no brainer. Jennifer Day the Manager has a hotel and staff to be proud of. Well done to all concerned.

We chose the Hotel Indigo for a one night stay in Cardiff, prior to attending a family wedding nearby on the following day, having previously enjoyed stays in Hotel Indigo in York and Stratford-Upon-Avon.
The hotel entrance is in a shopping arcade, and therefore it is a little difficult to park nearby to unload luggage and we had to park on a yellow line in a service road at the back of the hotel. The arcade itself looks a little tired and therefore the first impression of the hotel is not particularly good.
However, once in the hotel the experience was good. Reception staff were very helpful and friendly, and our rooms were individually styled with different themes, were well furnished and equipped, and the bathroom had a really good power shower.
Our rate did not include breakfast as we intended to have a light breakfast in the hotel coffee shop, but unfortunately that was closed, so we purchased breakfast at the hotel for £12.50 which was very good, including a good choice of hot and cold dishes. We didn’t use the bar of the hotel so can’t comment on that, as we decided to see what Cardiff had to offer for evening food and drinks, and the hotel is very well located to easily access the bars and restaurants of central Cardiff.
There is an NCP car park nearby and the hotel has arrangements for guests to pay a reduced rate.
Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Indigo, and can recommend it for a city break in Cardiff.

Stayed mid week as a treat for my birthday despite the current Covid pandemic we felt entirely safe & at ease in this lovely boutique hotel in the centre of Cardiff
We had a superior Queen room possibly number 426. Everything in the room was spotless, I cannot fault it. The bathroom, especially the shower, was the one of the best I’ve ever used. All the toiletries were of the highest standard no need to bring your own shampoo shower gel etc. Bed was high and so comfortable.
The added extras like the coffee machine in room was a bonus.
It’s a quirky place full of Welsh character.
Reception lady was lovely, I simply cannot fault the place.
I cannot comment on breakfast we opted not to have it
Will return 👏🏻

Staff seemed friendly, but dress code of one receptionist seemed rather relaxed and unprofessional. Room was clean and modern typically only 2 packets of sugar, not enough milk, so only one cup of tea was possible…. Room service was via an app, waited an hour, decided to phone reception to enquire about delay, was told I would get a call back, no call was received but the order was then accepted and I continued to wait another hour for my food. I paid £25 for a steak £40 in total for a meal and it was over 2 hours late and cold… No discount or apology was given for delay or quality. Really disappointed this is not the quality I’d typically expect from an IHG hotel. Over night the room was noisy, from what I can only think is plumbing because of the constant sound of flowing water. Yet to go for breakfast but will be expressing my disappointment to reception before I depart this morning

Quirky is the perfect word for this hotel. The reception is in an old Victorian Arcade, décor is themed around local industry and the hotel seems to be spread across a couple of old buildings with the restaurant on the top floor. I wanted so much to give it 4 stars but there were just too many niggles.
The up side: Staff are excellent, friendly, helpful, relaxed and they make the hotel. Room was clean, excellent shower, complimentary drinks in the fridge, decent sized TV and the bar is very reasonably priced for a city centre hotel. Great cocktails.
The down side: I booked a suite but it was tiny, the smallest I have ever seen with barely enough space to walk around the bed which wasn’t separate to the living area. The robes were tiny (and I’m a slim). The restaurant menu is limited largely to steak (OK 10 years ago) and the chicken main I ordered was dreadfully over seasoned. Staff were wearing jeans and trainers to serve breakfast, it didn’t really bother me but it’s not terribly professional and the guests behind me commented on it. I stayed on a Sunday night and there was plenty of noise from above my room and outside. There are clubs close to the hotel so expect lots of noise if you stay Friday or Saturday nights. Parking the usual urine soaked 1970’s multi but that’s out of the control of the hotel.
