The Coed-Y-Mwstwr Hotel is frequently lauded for its warm ambiance and spotless cleanliness, providing guests with a welcoming and serene retreat. Its comfortable rooms and ample amenities, including pet-friendly services, are popular, despite occasional slow service and tepid high tea offerings.
While some visitors find the additional costs for food and drinks steep, the picturesque location is regularly celebrated for its scenic charm and convenience. Service is generally well-regarded, although some inconsistencies have been noted, and while the rooms are spacious, a few guests suggest some areas could benefit from modernization.

Detailed Reviews
The Hotel provided a perfect venue for our family gathering, with the hotel set in quiet secluded grounds yet easily accessible from the M4. The function room, its setup and layout, was perfect for the occasion, with the staff being ever attentive, but unobtrusive. The buffet food provided a good range of savoury snacks, complimented by warm scones, cakes, chocolate profiteroles and bara brith. Delicious.

Fantastic hotel and the whole staff team were absolutely fantastic. Food and service excellent. The location was outstanding the accommodation was excellent, rooms clean and tidy with everything you need and when low on supplies you only had to ask the staff and it was given to you within a few minutes. The food presentation and quality was outstanding, the cooked breakfast was to order from the menu and a great range of cereals, yogurts and pastries with a range of juices. The evening meal was a good choice and again faultless. The staff was very friendly and accommodating they always made sure you was ok and again all on an equal par, very well managed hotel. I even spoke to the husband and wife groundskeepers team who kept the 17 acre site in tip top condition and even noticed a new range of plants and fruit trees had been planted to keep such a large grounds tidy is a credit again to the hotel. Very COVID-19 friendly and I felt safe all the time with plenty of hand gel available and all staff wore masks. The decor of the hotel and Hunters Lodges all had been kept up together with new pergola being erected and the driveway being relayed, really impressive all round. I
would recommend this place to all.

Spent a weekend here through a Daily Telegraph offer with friends. The offer included a visit to The Royal Mint. As there were 14 of us, we were allocated our own room for our meals which was ideal. Even provided a TV at breakfast to watch the rugby. Whilst it was busy with wedding parties all weekend, they were accommodated in separate rooms a suitable distance away not to impact upon us. Became busy in the bar at times though. Excellent food and staff were superb. Bedrooms were very good. Overall a very pleasant weekend.

My husband and I (and the dog) stayed for 2 nights end of September. Our room was in the coach house, a short walk from the main hotel. We had a lovely spacious room which was warm and comfortable.
The food was faultless - we were recommended a dish from the bar snacks which was something like teriyaki crispy duck with a fried egg - oh my gosh, amazing. Dinner both nights was excellent.
It was lovely to be sat by the roaring fire the first day/ night, shame it wasn’t lit the second day.
Only thing we would say is, for the money, robes in the rooms would have been very welcome for lounging after a bath, and better quality tea/ coffee in the rooms.
Service at breakfast on the second day was a bit slow as there was a wedding party in, we waited a while before making ourselves known, aside from that the service was brilliant and the staff were all lovely.
The dog is still waiting for his sausages at breakfast every day since we’ve been home! :-)
Thanks for a welcoming stay!

+1
After months of being cooped up thanks to covid we opted to take advantage of the current government deal and go for afternoon tea at the hotel.
A group of 5 of went and had a lovely time.
We sat under the marquee in the garden and all the tables were well spaced out and the staff had everything under control.
The tea was lovely and we weren’t made to feel rushed even though we were the last table to leave.
We will definitely be back to enjoy the tea and cakes again

We attended a family wedding and we stayed in room 1 which was a suite. The room was carefully decorated to reflect the buildings age etc and was warm and comfortable with enough room for us as a family of 4 to get ready for the wedding. The food in the restaurant and at the wedding was absolutely superb and the portion sizes were perfect. Breakfast both mornings was hot and fresh. I think drinks, especially soft drinks are a little overpriced. The staff were attentive and friendly apart from one of the barmen who was a little salty. More care needs to be taken by the bar staff to allocate drinks to correct rooms. Over all we would definitely stay again as the hotel is beautiful and the location is great for all of South Wales and it’s charms! Storm Eunice invites herself along and caused a lot of debris on the drive which was cleared quickly and regularly, I expected the rooms to be noisy as they are old windows but we weren’t bothered once indoors at all. I have given 5 stars over all as I think a lot of care is taken to maintain this beautiful property and we had a great weekend.

The venue was recently renovated which was a lovely last minute touch to our wedding. Tommy, our wedding coordinator, was incredible at organising the event and made the whole process easy and stress free. The staff were extremely friendly and quick to serve the guests. The hotel manager, Paul, was also incredibly accommodating and stayed within sight all day for me. We stayed in the bridal suit overnight and they gave us a free bottle of bubbly. I didn't have time to eat any of the buffet in the evening, but everyone complimented on how tasty it was. I also highly recommend the hotel DJ Justin as he was just really good at gauging the crowd and had us dancing all the way will midnight!
The only small negatives I would mention are the high drink prices ... That's it!!
Overall I would highly recommend having an event at the Coed-Y-Mwstwr if you can afford it. The prices are higher than your average venue but what you're paying for is a better quality experience and that I can definitely say we received!
Thank you all so much who were involved and for giving us one of the best days of our lives so far! Love Gemma and Laura x

We stayed 4 nights at this lovely hotel last week. The room was beautiful, spacious and tastefully decorated with quality ornate furniture. Staff were very friendly and helpful and there is an excellent selection of spirit at the bar. Try the Barti Rum! We ate at the restaurant for three nights on the dine out to help out scheme. Food was very tasty and though it was nice to eat outdoors (the restaurant was closed for reburbishment)it did get a bit chilly. Some diners were brought blankets but heaters would have made things more comfortable. It was a shame the two wood burners were not lit as they would have provided warmth and atmosphere and made the dining experience better too. Lovely hotel, all in all would recommend.

Should have been informed prior to booking that the room was in Lodge necessitating walking in pouring rain to reach hotel. Even a simple provision of umbrella in foyer of annex would have mitigated the experience. Its no use saying when you come again you can specify a room in the main hotel. The soaking in the walk to dinner totally spoiled the evening.

No real ales. Not even hoppy keg beers
I have never seen vouchers advertised for this hotel. We just rang and booked. It is quite pricey compared to other places in Bridgend area, but for a special occasion such as a birthday treat it is worth it. The quality , quantity of food and service was excellent.
