We are independently run hotel with 33 en-suite bedrooms, The Humble Goat pub-restaurant - the only Free House in the village - and the Glaslyn restaurant that opens during weekends and all week during the high season. The Royal Goat Hotel was built in 1802 to cater for the growing number of tourists visiting Snowdonia. It started life as the Goat Hotel and was upgraded to Royal Goat Hotel when Queen Victoria's son Arthur stayed in 1863. The Legend of Prince Llewelyn and his famous hound Gelert was brought to wider attention by the first landlord David Pritchard, who shared the legend as a way of attracting tourists to the area and the grave is still a popular tourist spot. We are in an ideal location to enjoy Snowdonia and it's most famous mountains, rivers and lakes - Snowdon itself towers over us.

Myself and my partner stayed for 9 nights. The hotel is clean and had been decorated recently. It's been done in a bit of a hurry so not perfect but nice. They are massively short of staff and are struggling to get a decent chef, not that the food was bad, it was very good but the chef didn't prepare the food on one night and they had to close it, also a coach of OAP's came one night and ordered their food in the morning for the evening but by the evening some of these poor people didn't have what they ordered which upset them.
The people running the Restaurant are fantastic and are the only ones keeping this aged hotel going.
There didn't seem to be anyone at the reception for most of the time and when we did see a lady in there she told us at first we shouldn't be there (they found out booking eventually) and the 2nd time we went in to see her she ignored us and we walked out.
The room was lovely although as I said it's been decorated very quickly, the headboard and the curtain rail was very wonky and the painting wasn't perfect but that obviously didn't spoil our stay and it was clean and tidy and the bed and shower was great.
They obviously take the cleaning seriously as when people left they left the doors and windows open for 24 hours before the next guest's arrived.
One thing to remember is that they book early to eat, only between 5 and 8pm.the bar shuts at 10pm although it shut a bit earlier one night when we wanted a night cap.
Look out for the American lad who works there, I think his name was Max, he was the best thing about this hotel and made it worth staying there.
The town is very small and seems to close early so be prepared for an early night.
We would go back there again and hopefully they would have sorted out the staffing problems by then.

We had a lovely 3 night stay at this hotel.
Some say tired I think quirky,!! yes it does need a bit of TLC but the rooms were clean and the beds comfy. This hotel allowed dogs and I have to say that if you hadn't see the odd dog you wouldn't have known .
Yes, you did need to wait a while for food but when it arrived it was worth the wait !! What's the rush you are on holiday !!
The hotel is being run by a fantastic group of young people who are doing their very best in difficult circumstances. They work amazingly well as a team and Max was an absolute delight who works harder than most I know at his age, always with a smile on his face and free for a chat.
The location is stunning with fantastic walks on the doorstep.
Being such a busy location all the pubs were fully booked every night for food due to staff shortages.
We wished we could have stayed longer and we will be back.

While the hotel is a bit dated and in the need of some TLC the location is stunning, the chef did an incredible job and the staff were brilliant - especially at a time when the shortages are hitting hard. Max deserves a mention as he was cheering everyone no end with an easy flow of conversation and attention but the whole team worked brilliantly together to ensure great service by a very lean team.

Don’t expect a 5 star experience but for us there was definitely a 5 star atmosphere in the friendliness and the location. The rooms are basic and dated, a few of the doors are stiff and you need to make sure they are locked properly because our latch didnt always close but everyone we met was very friendly and open to chat. Very dog friendly which I loved and given the fame of Gelert as Llewelyn’s dog that is little surprise! Great walks on the doorstep and plenty of local amenity to cover a few days stay. Excellent access to the wonders of North Wales from Portmeirion to Anglesey so not a bad base.

Makes up for the need to perhaps spend a bit of time and money on updating the rooms (especially the bathrooms) but well worth it to stay in such a lovely place and I think would suit most travellers to the region looking for an easy stop.

Wasn’t impressed at all with the hotel unfortunately.
We didn’t find the staff friendly, bar one lad in the bar who was really nice, blonde lad, was really nice and happy. Our room was OK, our shower was freezing cold and literally dripped, you couldn’t shower in it at all! Which on a hot weekend is not ideal! The whole place could do with a tidy to be honest. The location is great for people doing Snowdon as only a 20min drive to the car park there. The village is lovely and veiws are lovely. Personally think the hotel is over pieces for the condition it’s in. We were also on the 2nd floor and the people above us, was like they were in the room with us! Very loud. I just unfortunately wouldnt rate this hotel :( there were a few guest houses in the village we noticed which looked lovely.

Firstly we were thrilled at what a pretty village this is and received a very warm welcome when we arrived at the royal goat. We got to our room on the third floor and was so pleased with how lovely the room and bathroom was. We had amazing mountain views from our room. The staff were all very friendly and attentive and provided a great service in the restaurant and bar area. The food was on point couldn’t of been nicer and the breakfast were all cooked to order ( no horrid buffet ). The hotel was in a great location to go of exploring and we went on some lovely walks including walking mount snowden. I can’t recommend this hotel enough and will be returning. Thanks for a great stay

We were really excited for this holiday, but upon arrival, we were greeted with an odour of dampness and mouldiness as well as lots of dead bugs and no staff about. After getting the key and being told where our room was, we put our bags in and went straight out due to needing dinner.

That night when we spent time in the room, we found lots of cobwebs and dirt all across the bathroom floor. There was mold all along the bath, in patches on the wall, and damp patches on the floor under the sink and toilet. The bathroom had many areas of flooding and cracked tiles and holes. There were damp patches on the windowsill in the bedroom too. When we went to take a shower, we found a red stain (resembled blood) on one of the white towels and had to use our own towels for the duration of our stay. For our holiday we planned to climb Snowdon so didn't spend any more time in the hotel other than to sleep, and wanted to discuss this at the end of our visit. When we left early in the morning to climb, the door was left wide open all night long, with no staff around and so we felt very unsafe. On our final evening, we went around the village and heard many bad things about the hotel from locals which was very off-putting. Upon checking Trip Advisor for the hotel, we found many people who had the same terrible experience recently. We also found out a few weeks before our stay there was a hygiene rating of 1 and currently a hygiene rating of 4 which was not as advertised.

The bed and breakfast which was advertised to be between 8 and 10am, actually closed at 9am but wasn't updated in any room or hotel information. This meant we missed breakfast. When speaking to the manager, she said they couldn't afford the chef for an extra hour to feed one guest, as apparently the week is too quiet for breakfast to be open that long. This was not our fault that it was quiet and it was not what we paid for and was not as advertised. We were told our option was to have cereal for breakfast and the manager's comment was that we would not find breakfast anywhere else. After the uncleanliness and unpleasant experience, we did not want to stay a minute longer and checked out early.

Avoid at all costs.

Avoid this hotel.
Very tired hotel.
Room was decoratively poor
Shower was either stone cold or thermonuclear hot.
We were told on check in that the restaurant was fully booked for dinner - and that even as residents we could not get a table. It took a significant argument to persuade them to feed us !
Terrible night sleep as the gutter outside my room was broken and all I could hear was loud dripping/rushing water.
Redeeming feature was that the food was good !

The hotel staff were welcoming, and our room was comfortable and spacious. The room had a kettle with tea/coffee/hot choc and the bathroom had a good supply of toiletries. Bed and pillows were comfortable.
All of the staff were welcoming. We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel both days, and can't fault the food. I am coeliac and was happy surprised at how well they were able to cater for my dietary requirements, even fish and chips were gf, and bread was available if I requested it. A good selection of cold food at breakfast, the first morning we didn't realise there was a cooked breakfast menu to come a little later so made sure to save room for a cooked breakfast the following morning.
Easy to walk around the village from the hotel. There is a car park for the hotel, and bus stop across the road.
Perfect place to stay for doing the Watkin Path on Snowdon.

Very tired hotel. We had a bees nest outside our window, the window had been screwed shut. When we spoke to the duty manager about this he said he knew nothing about it. The back of the bathroom door was Bradley scratched by what looked like a dog that had been shut in. The paint in the bedroom was very badly finished. The duvet was coming apart at the seams. The curtains did not fit properly. There was no cold water in the shower/bath.
Luckily we did not eat here in the evening, because if what we had served for breakfast is an example of what comes out of the kitchens…….
When we complained in the morning to the person on the desk, he seemed very unconcerned.
The royal goat is probably the worst hotel I’ve stayed in for a very long time.

We stayed at this hotel for the first time and unfortunately will not be staying again. We arrived and were booked into a twin room (Not the room we booked we had booked a double room) on the 3rd floor (note if your looking for WiFi there is none on the 3rd floor). We did ask to be moved as the room was very dilapidated. The staff did this the following day and we were moved to a very small double room on the 2nd floor where wifi was available, this room did look like it had been refurbished, although the shower didn't work with no hot water. We ate in the restaurant once in the evening food was ok but the service was terrible, we asked to have a drink on the terrace outside bearing in mind this was one of the hottest weeks in Wales so far, only to he told they were not serving drinks on the terrace!!

The hotel is in need of a major overhaul which is such a shame the staff did their best but looked like they were short staffed all the time.

Bedgelert is a lovely little village with guest houses in and around which may be a better option.

The owner owns two pubs and go between the two. I am surprised that you have no response ask for the name of the other place and email both place be polite with you issues and ask them to address your concerns you insist on a response and keep emailing everyday, also tell them you will revue them on trip adviser. and number you emails normally does the trick quite nicely, do not give up!!!! Good luck regards Kylie
