Very noisy as it is situated on a very busy main road a and the in house entertainment was't very good. By entertainment I mean the rows between the Owners which we could clearly hear, which made our stay awkward and uncomfortable. We had booked for 4 nights but left after the second. Explained to the owners why we were...

I was blown away by the willingness of Hazel at the Black Lion Guest House to go above and beyond the call of duty to reunite me with my debit card when I left it behind on checking out. Otherwise room was very well appointed, only small complaint would be that it wasn't very well sound-proofed and you could hear...

We practically had a suite here as our "room" consisted of a small foyer, ensuite facility, large sitting room with comfortable furniture, & bedroom! Our hostess was extremely warm & welcoming, breakfast was very good & we appreciated that we could walk to an historic church & the town castle, which was a lovely ruin with beautiful views of the...

I live in Abergavenny and was expecting some visitors who asked me to book a room for them. I originally went to the Kings Arms but at £85 was a bit out of our budget. So I did a bit of research and booked a room at the Black Lion. I booked via email and was told the only room...

I stayed at the Black Lion for one night whilst visiting friends in Abergavenny. The room was clean, well appointed and the guest house was in a good location. I travel globally on business and stay in major hotels on each occasion; but these places all lack personality and warmth. The welcome I received and the hospitality extended by everyone...

As Secretary and Editor of the ABERGAVENNY & DISTRICT STEAM SOCIETY i only wish I had come across this small BUT very friendly guest house earlier in my role of producing the society's monthly meeting programme when some of our speakers required overnight accommodation. On one occasion i dropped in unexpectedly to introduce myself and Hazel gave me a really...

My husband and I went for several days after a congress in Cambridge to Abergavenny, South Wales. Here we were welcomed very friendly and heartily although we were quite late in the evening. We enjoyed totally staying in wonderful rooms which were big, great, cosy and very clean. Great are the owners Hazel and Mike who are very nice and...

My rather lukewarm rating of the Black Lion Guesthouse, Abergavenny, is due to the fact that with 4 stars, the presentation on their website and high room rates I had expected a better standard; what I got was nice but nothing out of the ordinary. During our 8 night stay there were too many glitches which should not happen in...

My husband stayed here for just one night with our (adult ) son. This is his report: "We both found the room clean and comfortable with a spacious en-suite. What stood out, though, was the friendliness of the owners and their willingness to go well out of their way to help when we were stuck for transport. It seems, reading...

We stayed three nights in the twin/en suite in June 2012 and it was a fantastic experience! Mike and Hazel were warm, welcoming hosts who went above and beyond to ensure our visit to Abergavenny was top-notch. The inn's location is only a few minutes walk to the thriving historic downtown (shops, restaurants, castle). Our room was clean, the bathroom...

“All rooms are wonderful, especially great is the Suite they got there, because it is quite big and nicely made. We also got for one night the chance knowing another room which is very nice because of the wonderful bathroom and bathtube, but this is more convenient to friends or family, not so much convenient for couples.”
