Stay in historic buildings within the beautiful Salisbury Cathedral Close. Sarum has 40 en-suite rooms, some with stunning views of the Salisbury Cathedral and the rooftops of the Close. Rooms not used by students and conference guests are let for bed and breakfast. There are also a small number of very modest rooms with shared facilities for those on a tight budget. Sarum's central location is a five-minute walk from High Street shops, cafes and the charter market. Excellent cultural venues within the Close include Salisbury Museum and Mompesson House, while Salisbury Playhouse, Salisbury Arts Centre and dozens of restaurants and pubs lie just beyond its medieval walls. Return to the Close with your own gate key, knowing you are among the privileged few to stay in what Bill Bryson described as England's 'most beautiful space'. The train station is about a 15-minute walk away (5 minutes by taxi). Direct trains to London are about an hour and 20 minutes.

Room was more than adequate for two nights. The room is a classic a college dorm setup with a twin bed, desk, side table, wardrobe, and sink in the room. The shared toilet is around the corner and the shared tub is around another corner. Breakfast is in a dining hall and the gate

We encourage prospective visitors to ring us directly to ensure we can give you the room that most suits your needs.

After our flight from Dublin and a bit of a drive from Heathrow, we were warmly welcomed at the college. When we mentioned we came specifically to view the cathedral (which was just across the lawn!) and hopefully be able to worship there, she stopped in the middle of registering

How many places can you step out of the front door and your immediate view is one of Britain's most iconic Cathedrals.
It is a simple Bed and Breakfast establishment but from the moment you push open the big old wooden front door you know that this place is different and the wond

I booked my daughter and niece for one night so they could see Stonehenge. It was a safe and convenient choice. Beds were comfy and the breakfast was delicious. Maybe because they are college students they found the dorm rooms an adequate and charming set up for travelers. The gi

Thank you for your review - the top tip for tourists is helpful too! The College has a range of rooms, from modest student-style ones with shared facilities to larger ensuite rooms for those on a more relaxed budget. Our advice to those wishing to stay at Sarum is to telephone our hospitality team so they can offer the best room available for what each person or group is looking for. We look forward to welcoming your daughter and niece back to Salisbury.

We had a very small "double-room" under the roof. The "double-bed" was large 140 cm, thats not standard for a double-room. That might be good for a teenager. Every toilet-flash made a horrible noise. The room service cleaned the first time after 4 days, they changed our towels af

Dear Peter and Alexa I am sorry that you feel unhappy about some aspects of your stay at Sarum College. I have looked into your queries and offer the following replies and comments: 1) Bed size. Sarum College's double beds are standard size or slightly larger, as you've noted. An extensive search on bed manufacturing websites and Wikipedia offers consistent results that the standard UK double bed size is 135 x 190cm. (A small double is 120 x 190cm). 2) Plumbing. The attic rooms are located in what was originally a private home dating from the 17th century (1677). As you can appreciate, it has been quite a job to renovate those rooms to modern standards. Toilet flushes are indeed noisy. Some guests so enjoy the characterful style (wood beams, angled ceilings) and stunning view of the Cathedral that they see this as a minor inconvenience but of course this is a matter of personal preference. The College was full during your stay so we were not able to relocate you to another room, which we would happily do in other circumstances. 3)Towel changes. As stated on the information sheet you receive at check-in, towels are changed every other day in the interest of environmental concerns. That said, we are happy to honour requests for daily towel change. We apologise if a towel change was missed and would always encourage guests to ask a duty manager for fresh towels if this happens. 4) Room cleaning. Sarum College is, as the name suggests, a College rather than a hotel, so we don't operate a daily cleaning / bed turn down service as a matter of course. We ask that guests staying for longer period discuss their preferences for room cleaning with the duty manager, as some guests prefer privacy over a daily housekeeping visit. 5) Blankets. We have checked the woolen blankets in the room you stayed in, and found no evidence of moths. We also checked the blankets stored in cupboards of other rooms along that floor, with no sign of moth damage. 6) Bedcovers. This comes down to cultural differences. While it is common in parts of continental Europe to have separate duvet covers on double bed, one duvet cover per bed is standard UK practice. 7) Room and meal rates. As you were part of a group stay, we were pleased to offer you a 20% discount off the normal room and meal rates. I am sorry you found the prices high - again this may be due to different standards of pricing in different parts of Europe. In other reviews here, guests have noted the value for money Sarum College offers. 8) Meals. Very pleased you enjoyed the food. Our catering team cooks fresh food each day, and the buffet-style service allows guests to choose as much as they wish from a variety of main meals, as well as a salad bar and dessert table. We compare our prices with other Salisbury eateries regularly. 9) Reputation. Sarum College has been running for more than 20 years, and enjoys an 'excellent' rating in 45% of its reviews on TripAdvisor. We retained our 5-star status for the statutory catering hygiene inspection earlier this year and we have regular inspections by Visit England. The College is also a member of the regional tourism body Visit Wiltshire. I hope this clarifies the issues you raise. best wishes from all of us at Sarum College

If staying at Sarum College Sat. night and want to see Stonehenge Sunday morning, can you tell me how best to arrange transportation to Stonehenge? Thank you.
Hello and apologies for the delay. The Stonehenge bus timetable online indicated that it leaves from Salisbury Train Station. I can't see if that is a daily schedule but i guess it would be. There is an email address on the website to confirm if you wish. Our direct email at Sarum College for B&B is hospitality@sarum.ac.uk bon voyage!

Hello! We are planning to stay for two nights in Sept 2018. Would there be a quiet location to have dinner at around 6:30pm and is there wine available? We'll be a group of about 16-18 people. Thank you! Sr Margo Colman Celtic Journeys
