We stayed at this hotel for one night as part of a short city break.

The location is excellent for the Bull Ring centre and market, both only a short walk away. Likewise New Street station is very close. We drove and took advantage of the discounted parking at the Chinatown car park which is an easy walk away.

Being fairly regular Travelodge users we are used to their standards which are generally quite high for a budget chain and we rarely spend much time in the rooms other than for sleeping and getting ready.

On this occasion having booked a “super room” our expectations were high but unfortunately they were not met. The only thing that we noticed different was a coffee machine which was nice but not a game changer. On the other hand the bathroom had an empty soap dispenser, it was well cleaned and there was no remote for the TV. The latter was sorted out by housekeeping who brought us another.

As always the staff were helpful and friendly and the hotel has a pleasant bar.

Despite our reservations the location and value of this hotel means we would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to others wanting to visit Birmingham city centre.

Having stayed in various hotels across Birmingham, I have been able to compare the quality of customer service and facilities provided, and I can confidently say that this hotel is at a high standard for the price.

Each time I’ve stayed at this hotel I’ve received great service consistently from the manager Jessica, and the receptionists Ilusca, Aimee and AJ. They’re all very interactive, great to talk to, and are conscious of making sure each visit is an enjoyable and comfortable experience.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a decent sized room with good facilities, in a central location of Birmingham City Centre close to bars, restaurants and shops, at a fair price.

This is the first time I've been to this particular Travelodge and I would happily go again. It's in a great location right next to the Bullring. Parking is only a 5 min walk around the corner at Pershaw street and is goos value at £5 foe 24 hours. The room was very clean and bright with everything needed for a short stay. The bed was comfy and extra pillows were available in the room if needed. There was a little external noise but this is because there is building works going on right opposite the room we were staying in which was 616. there are 3 lifts servicing the floors which was great. I only have 2 gripes about my stay, first was the shower had quite poor water pressure and most of the water dribbled down the hose but it was adequate for one night. The other and biggest gripe is the noisy internal room doors. Every time somebody entered or left their room the doors would slam.

Booked two nights here as a last minute break to be able to get on with some work and explore the city with my partner but we didn't even stay one night because the place was so dirty and disgusting.

Our first room we were assigned was covered in dirt and dust. Looked like it hadn't been used for a long time (understandable considering the pandemic) but you would have thought they would have been extra stringent with cleaning considering! Thick layers of dust on lamp switches, skirting boards, kettle, TV remote and cups. I politely asked reception if the room could be cleaned which wasn't allowed due to the pandemic (also understandable) so we were moved rooms which was slightly better but still very substandard especially considering a virus is going round. We chose to stick with the room as we assumed all of them would be the same.

A few hours later I went to have a shower and after running both th shower and the tap for 10 minutes there was no sign of any warm/hot water. I called reception where they simply said they could move us to another room for the second time and nothing else could be done as no one was allowed in our room to check.

We declined this offer and said we would just leave because we had enough at this point and weren't prepared to move to a third room. The young Asian man who I assume was the manager didn't offer any apologies or try and make us stay, he simply said 'put your room keys in the box'....... So I did and just walked out.

I have never in my life had to complain or get moved rooms or actually just left without even staying in a hotel because I hate confrontation or making staff feel bad but this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. I have wrote to customer services demanding a full refund.

PS- the price of the nearest car park was more expensive than the room.....

i paid £28 for a Superroom two nights under a BOGOF deal which ran for four days covering the whole of the UK.

Great bed, no aircon, some slight noise from other rooms, two kitkats in my room instead of biscuits. Plug sockets by the bed with usb points,

I'd visited not long after lockdown had finished.

A terrible 4g signal in that area meant I paid £6 for 48 hours of slow speed Virgin Media wifi.

Location of the hotel is good, short work from Coach Station & New Stree Station to name just two, right opposite The Bull Ring markets and right next to the start of China Town.

Down-side lots of derelict land around the hotel undergoing redevelopment so expect some building noise, room size even in Super-Rooms one of the smallest every experienced in a Travelodge, room card keys just appear to stop working for no reason and you need to get reception to re-programme them, was not just me noticed a few people experience some issues during my 48hour stay. As others have pointed out you can not pay by card in the bar which in 2020 is just not right, you can pay by card at the bar in other Travelodges I have stayed in.

Breakfast was good both mornings but the bar seating area is not that big for number of rooms so glad I was down early for my breakfast both days.

Would I come back yes most likely if needed to stay in that part of the city again, easy to locate and rooms are clean and have all you need for a couple of days even if on the small side compared with other hotels in this chain I have stayed with.

Room needs updating, WiFi not free, only foam dispenser in room, no bath, mirror in wrong place, kettle small, tv very small, no bedside table, small electric heater not great ( I stayed in Feb and it was -1 and very cold) very very small print on booking website about the major building works behind the hotel didn’t read it until was woken at 8am to drilling and noise. Checking in at 3pm is late, you have to pay if you want earlier and nowhere to leave luggage, I’ve stayed in many hotels and never had this issue before. Bed ok and sheets clean as well as the room but bed not as good as premier inn. Reception staff helpful.

I stayed at Travelodge Birmingham Central Bullring, Upper Dean Street from 27/8/21 to 29/8/21. I went to have a shower at 1am and realised the shower was cold. Due to the timing of this, I reported it to reception 28/8/21 (AM) and spoke to Maggie (Manager) and explained how the shower water was cold and I wanted it sorted. Maggie said she would look at it and call me with an update (which didn’t happen). I returned to my hotel at 6pm and asked at reception if the hotel room now had hot water, Craig (Manager) looked on the system and explained Maggie hadn’t left any record of the room not having any hot water, Craig explained he had started shift at 3pm (When Maggie left). Craig said he will have a look at the shower. As I headed to my room, it appeared Craig was heading the same direction. 30-45 minutes had past, Craig hadn’t arrived to the room. I called the reception from my phone. Craig explained he had 2 other jobs to do before mine. He arrived to my room 20/30 minutes later, ran the shower which was at the same temperature as before. Craig said the the water temperature is 30 degrees and that’s how it should be.. I said it’s cold, causing my skin to be dry & itchy. I said I wasn’t happy with the result and asked to be moved to another room. Craig explained they were fully booked, and all the rooms have the same temperature and I couldn’t be moved. (The sink tap was hotter than the shower)! This was my first time at Travelodge and will be the last, due to poor customer service, failing to meet customers basic needs and no consideration for their guests. Complaint has also been made!

The only good thing about this hotel was the location. We booked 2 rooms for two nights and when we arrived the 2nd room was already occupied and whilst queuing to tell the staff this issue, there were two other families who had the same experience. The staff did sort this out. Luckily we hadn’t booked breakfast because their oven had exploded that day so the bar and restaurant was closed.

The room itself was very basic with very little hanging space and one shelf to put any other clothes on and this was too high for me to use (I’m 5ft 5inches.

On leaving the room the first morning (9.30am) we put out a sign which let the cleaning staff know that we would like new towels. We arrived back at 4.30pm to find we couldn’t get into the rooms again. We had to go back to reception to ask them to reactive the keys for both rooms - again we were not the only ones with this problem we witnessed at least 4 other couples with the same problem. The staff told us they were sorry but they had been short staffed today.

Whilst going to and from reception for various reasons the cleaner got into the lift with us and said she had been working since 9am and had only managed to get to floor 2. So it was no surprise that when we got back into the room the towels had not been replaced. We were on floor 6.

The hotels bar was open and we decided to have a drink. Whilst we were sat having our drink, we witnessed several people sliding on the floor with one person going completely down. Fortunately they were unhurt and the staff eventually put out wet floor signs.

As we were leaving for the evening we mentioned to reception that we would like new towels.

When we arrived back again later in the evening our room keys didn’t work so we had to report back to reception. When finally gaining entry there were still no towels so we had to go down to reception again to request these and this time the reception staff gave us some towels.

Overall (for the price we paid £191 for 2 nights per room) it was shocking service and will definitely not be returning.

The hotel corridors and bathrooms smelt of stale smoke and was extremely basic with very little space to put clothes, no hairdryer in the room and not serviced and cleaned throughout the 2 night stay.

The few staff, who seemed to be on permanent duty, were apologetic and helpful but clearly overrun.

Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in.

I booked on the Travelodge website a number of weeks before I was due to stay and paid £89.99 for a super room as it was only marginally more expensive than a standard room. However, on the day I arrived, I checked the prices and they were much cheaper than they had been when I originally booked. I queried this with Travelodge and they said prices change and that it is the same as them not being able to ask clients for more money on the day if prices have increased. What an insulting response! The reason for booking early is to get a better price as this allows the hotel to manage their operations more accurately and determine staffing levels etc. I think that their pricing practices are deceptive.

With regards to the super room, it seems that the only benefit is the presence of a coffee machine and a kit Kat. The room was boiling and there is no air con, so I had to open a window and be exposed to the noise of the car park behind and random people on the streets. The shower curtain was incorrectly installed and not appropriate for the type of shower unit in the room. There was also noisy guests until late in the night. When I highlighted these failing, I was patronised by the person responding and offered late check in and breakfast. So they overcharged me for the room and then offered something of no value to me which even they value at less than what they overcharged. Why would I stay there again when I will be overcharged again? Overall, disappointing but unsurprised.
