The Novotel Birmingham Centre Hotel garners praise for its spotless rooms and commendable staff who deliver exceptional service. While the hotel enjoys a prime central location that's handy for exploring local sights, some guests find the noise levels problematic, especially during weekends.
The rooms elicit mixed reactions, ranging from well-appointed to needing refurbishment, and though the amenities generally satisfy, a few visitors suggest an upgrade is in order. The hotel's atmosphere strikes many as both modern and inviting, yet opinions on value for money are divided.

I have stayed at this hotel a few times before, usually when we use it for our training events in the city...this time I was just staying there as it was an affordable option for a business trip in the city.
The staff on reception were very friendly and I was warmly welcomed as a loyalty scheme member with an envelope containing details of the fitness room facilities, a map of the area, and my room key and complimentary drinks voucher (which you get as a silver member of the scheme).
My room was a standard room on this visit, spacious with a large bed, sofa, work-desk area, coffee / tea & kettle, mini fridge for the milk and a safe for keeping a laptop. There is free Wi-Fi so working at the hotel is easily accommodated and there were power sockets close to the working area. There is a separate toilet room and a bathroom, although I do prefer the facilities to all be in one place.
I had breakfast at the hotel, which was tasty and served hot, and the coffee from the machine was nice. There was a decent selection of chilled fruits and juices etc.
The decor in the room was a little dated and there were some orange spots all over the carpet, which were a little odd. Otherwise it was a pleasant stay and I will no doubt return.

really lovely hotel and good value for money, our room was spotless and very cosy and the bed was comfy we also enjoyed watching the nightlife from our window on a Saturday night/Sunday morning there was some entertaining things going on out there, it was noisy but it didn't bother us as we were drinking till late and then we downloaded rain app to drown out noise from outside, my husband arranged this as a surprise for my birthday I really hope I get to come back again, the staff were friendly and helpfull especially Natalie & Ines two very nice girls who bought me a surprise balloon, card and chocolate cake with candle thank you novotel for making day extra special . My only criticism would be there was zero atmosphere in hotel bar it was more like a library, bit of a buzz kill when you have just left a concert,a bit of background music would have helped, we had one drink but decided to go back to our room.

I made a special request to have sofa bed prepared in my booking. The reply from the hotel was positive. But when we arrived, no sofa bed was made. We opened the sofa bed on our own and there was an old blanket (originally should be white but I think that was light grey) inbetween. As we requested, the staff then came and made the bed. She tried to use that blanket for bedding and we were quite shocked. Fortunately she brought another blanket for us in the end.
The sofa bed was very poor and thin. And there were sharp objects at the edges of the sofa bed. It was very easy to get injured if not careful. When lying on it, I could feel the coils. This made my sleepless night. I had tried sofa beds in other hotels, and this one was the worst and not acceptable.
The coffee and tea corner was not well prepared when we arrived. I wonder if the staff had cleaned that area or not.
The toilet was in a different room, not in the bathroom. Not convenient.
The hotel room had thin walls and not soundproofing.
The hardwares of the hotel and the room are dated and disappointing.
The lift and the room door are controlled and opened by the magnetic stripe card (by sweeping or by inserting). And this card malfunctioned several times just for our one-night stay.
The temperature control is very dated.
And no hotel phone in the room, you had to whatsapp the team.

Getting to the hotel by car was a nightmare as large parts of Broad Street are closed with roadworks to install a new tram system. While this isn’t the fault of the hotel it would have been helpful if an email with clear directions had been sent out after booking as the diversion signs are useless. When w3 arrived at the hotel there was a sign in reception warning guests that new TVs were being installed and that there may be occasional drilling noises between 9.00 and 17.00. The drilling was constant and was accompanied by loud hammering noises (presumably when rawlplugs were being hammered into the newly drilled walls. The drilling was still going on at 17.30 when we left our room. If we had known in advance that significant work was going on in the hotel we would probably have booked somewhere different.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the Novotel. I can assure you that we take our guest's comments very seriously as we strive to continuously improve the service of the hotel. Please accept my apologies for the noise due to the maintenance works being carried out in the hotel which will end by 26th March. However, I will address your comments with the relevant departments and can assure you that constructive action will be taken to minimise the noise and that it finishes at 17:00 sharply. Moreover, I would suggest to always check road works on your route and local travel restrictions before starting your journey. Once again please accept my sincere apology and I do hope we have the opportunity to better serve you on your return to Birmingham. Kind regards,

We stayed in a family room and used the hotel as a base to explore the surrounding area. But it was great in the evening as we could walk to the restaurants. We particularly liked the Mailbox. The location is right on Broad Street, but we never heard any street noise despite staying over the May bank holiday! The room was very nice, clean and comfortable. The bathroom and toilet are a little dated but fine. Breakfast was good, usual buffet selection, but never seemed too busy. Parking on site is really handy but you pay for it at £18 per day. Finally, the staff were great, always friendly and helpful and a special shout out to Ionut on the front desk and Ghalia at breakfast, thanks both for making us feel so welcome, we had a great time.

Dear The Inquisitor, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience at our hotel. We're thrilled to hear that you had a very comfortable stay right in the city centre and that our location suited your needs perfectly. It's wonderful to know that you found it convenient to explore the surrounding area and enjoyed the nearby restaurants, especially the Mailbox. We're delighted that despite our central location on Broad Street, you experienced a peaceful stay without any street noise, even during the busy May bank holiday. Our team takes great pride in providing a clean and comfortable environment for our guests, so we're pleased to hear that your room met your expectations. We appreciate your feedback regarding the bathroom and toilet, and we'll certainly take it into consideration for future improvements. It's fantastic to hear that you enjoyed our breakfast selection and found it to be a pleasant experience without overcrowding. We understand the importance of convenient parking, and we're glad that our on-site parking facility served you well, even though there is a charge of £18 per day. We'll be sure to pass on your kind words to Ionut at the front desk and Ghalia from the breakfast team. They will be thrilled to know that they made a positive impact on your stay and contributed to your overall enjoyment. We strive to provide friendly and helpful service, and it's rewarding to hear that they exceeded your expectations. Thank you again for choosing our hotel as your base for exploring the area, and we sincerely hope to welcome you back in the future for another great experience. Warm regards, George Front Office Manager

A great welcome from the front of house staff, lovely friendly helpful bar staff too.
Overall the room facilities were as described on the Accor/Novotel website - the room, bathroom and separate toilet were clean. Hygiene-wise, this arrangement of separate toilet and bathroom is not ideal as you cannot wash your hands in the toilet area. Bed was comfortable, mini-fridge very useful. If the sofa bed is used too, there would not be a lot of space in the room.
However, the air conditioning is seasonal (heating works well in winter, however it was too warm for us, so we didn't sleep that well), so if you want fresh cool air in winter by opening the windows, you will also get street noise. Although the bedrooms do not face Broad Street, this location is busy and quite noisy at night.
The hotel is about 3 minutes walk from Birmingham Symphony Hall, within easy reach on foot or by tram from the city centre and Birmingham New Street Station. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants nearby, plus a mini supermarket next door.

Service from the start of our check-in with Veronica at the Front Desk has been excellent. Veronica was able to extend our stay without any issues, and answer any questions we had. Housekeeping staff was great with cleaning our room, providing fresh towels and working around our schedule. It had all the amenities you can ask, large screen tv, fridge, room safe, and hotel speed WiFi. Although we did not use the restaurant and bar facilities, it is available at a reasonable price.

We stayed for the Commonwealth games. The hotel is well situated with a very convenient and well priced underground car park. The rooms are functional and clean. I liked the separate toilet and also their was an inner door to the bedroom from the walk in area near the door and off the bathroom which acted as a buffer for any noise.
Veronica is very professional and personable and I'm sure she will go far in hospitality. She double checked if our room was ready when we were relatively early for check in and found a room for us which was really convenient for us. This is a pleasant surprise rather than the usual 'no rooms ready' ready.
The breakfast was as expected - coffee was good and the bacon was good quality.
On check out, Rogo and Eliza were very helpful with the car park validation which was very easy and they even gave me some pain killers for my daughter before our journey home which was a lovely gesture and most appreciated.
We found the service of all staff very good.

The hotel location is excellent with lots of nightlife around it. Room was large and comfortable if not slightly old. Very quite with carpeted corridors and blackout blinds to avoid disturbance. Ask for a high up room not facing onto the main street and you wont hear a thing. Tired around the edges but overall good.
