Detailed Reviews
Location and Access – The hotel is one minute walk to/from departures and arrivals at Birmingham International Airport (BHX). There is a drop off/pick up charge for vehicles coming to the reception
Google Earth – The hotel can be seen on Street View
Architectural Style – Mid rise 6 storey black glazed “box”
Reception – staff were professional and welcoming and completed the check in formalities quickly
Public Areas/Decor – All very well maintained
Guest Rooms – Rooms are undergoing a makeover and I was allocated a recently revamped executive suite on the 6th floor overlooking the airport runway. I have stayed here before and the new rooms are a significant improvement with contemporary decor and furnishings. The new bathroom layout and fittings exceptionally successful
Decor/Maintenance/Cleanliness – Everything had been recently refreshed and all still in good condition – but why oh why to hotels never have clean windows!
Space – More than adequate
Amenities including Entertainment – Telephone, (small) TV with basic Freeview Channels, good Wi-Fi, tea and coffee making including a nespresso machine, mini fridge. Plenty of electrical sockets capable of charging personal devices
Lighting – Natural light was excellent in my west facing room. Artificial lighting was dim
Heating/Air Conditioning – Didn’t work but reception provided portable electric heater and extra blankets
Noise – Bearing in mind the close vicinity to the airport runway – no noise disturbance whatsoever
Value for Money – I booked well in advance and was able to get a great rate – but normally this is quite an expensive hotel
X Factor – Every time I have used this hotel it has been due to fact that I have had 4:00 am check in at BHX. Therefore, the location directly across the road from departures can’t be beaten

Stayed 1 night before flying from Birmingham. Originally booked into the Ibis Budget through hotels.com but then because of low occupancy got a free upgrade to the Novotel! Couldn’t complain! Absolutely lovely hotel, really lives up to its 4* rating. Staff, room and breakfast brilliant. Didn’t get his name but the guy on reception on the night of the 31/8 was brilliant. I requested a High room looking over the runway and he did everything he could do get us a good room! He also, as we were travelling to Greece, printed all of our QR codes off for the next morning! As the air link train wasn’t running he also showed us all where the free bus to resorts world was a massive help! Nothing was to much trouble for him which was just amazing! I also appreciated how they were coping with the COVID situation, hand sanitiser
everywhere even in the lifts and a drop box for keys on check out! Bedroom was good, not the biggest but absolutely fine for a night! Extremely clean and lovely massive TV! Breakfast in the morning was a takeaway which we organised at reception the night before. Sausage and egg panini, orange juice, choice of hot drink etc. Considering it was a takeaway breakfast it was very very nice and set us up for the day! Overall I cannot complain about our stay, staff members lovely and went above and beyond! Defiantly would stay here again when flying from Birmingham!

Having booked to stay for one night at the neighbouring Ibis hotel, 2 weeks before my stay I was informed that my booking had been changed and upgraded to the Novotel due to COVID-19.
I was dropped off at the airports ‘drop off and pick up’ zone and took a 5 minute downhill walk to the hotel which is located directly opposite the departure entrance to the airport building - perfect for my flight the following day.
On arrival, clear COVID measures were in place including a clearly marked one way system, hand sanitizer and social distancing information. Check in was quick and simple with everything clearly explained by the receptionist who was behind a screen.
The room was spotless and had everything we needed for a one night stop. Hairdryer, toiletries, coffee/tea tray, towels (big and fluffy) all readily available with cups being disposable and in sealed packaging.
The bed itself was blissful and I enjoyed one of the best nights sleep I have ever had. I was pleasantly surprised that we experienced no noise from other guests or outside from the airport.
All in all, a brilliant stay and the location makes access to the airport so simple. From door to door is less than 2 mins! This made the start to my holiday relaxing and stress free.

Where do I start?
Breakfast is nothing more than a joke. Its basically pre packed in a cardboard box offering a piece of fruit, a factory made pannini ot a croisaant and a carton of fruit juice. There wss no tea or coffee offered and just a couple of cereal pots to chose from. Other lesser hotels are managing to offer an awful lot more, I suggest you stay elsewhere. However, if you do book here, please please do not pay extra for breakfast. You will be disappointed.
Masks are mandatory for everyone in public areas which is great. However, it appears a majority of the staff are exempt. Walked out of my room to run straight into a couple of room cleaners with their masks neatly tucked beneath their chins. The maintenance staff don't have any coverings visible let alone near their face.
I am here on business and arrived back at 4am only to be woke by the very loud cleaners talking at 8am. Shame tney weren't wearing their mask, it may have muted them a little.
My room key failed on numerous occasions and had to queue back up just to get the key reprogrammed so I cojld get back in. As I write, their machine to programme the keys has broken, and everytime I want to get back into my room, someone has to escort to so they can open the door. This hotel is dire.

Dear Nolan 580, Thank you very much for taking the time to let us know your feedback in regards to your stay with us. I am sorry that the breakfast was not up to our usual standards. We do have a reduce breakfast offer hence the reduced price. In regards to the masks yes they are mandatory and I would say that to the contrary majority of the staff wear them during duty as you could observe during your stay. Yes maybe some staff members when they see there is no one around might put them down, which is only natural but thank you for letting us know as I will reinforce their use to the team. I am deeply sorry that the key machine failed during your stay. As you mentioned the staff scored you to make sure the right room was in used hence they were doing their best until the issue was solved. I am sorry if this caused you any issues during your stay. Sometimes things may break and we need time to sort them out. Once again please accept our apologies for any inconvenience during your stay. Best regards, David Terron - Rooms Division Manager

It’s been a good number of years since I was last at the Novotel at Birmingham airport and with my regular airport hotel closed I opted to stay at the Novotel again, intrigued to see what it was like now.
The answer is very good, but with a few little niggles. On the good side my executive room was modern and clean, the bed was very comfortable (on the firm side which is my preference). The TV is huge (albeit with a frustrating interface) and the room has plenty of USB points and enough regular power points.
The design of bathroom was new on me with the toilet almost in its own segregated area allowing access to the sink and mirror for someone else. The lighting here was good with plenty of light available. The shower was possibly the best hotel shower I’ve ever used.
Add to all this the entrance to the hotel is literally a few steps away from the airport.
The hotel offers an in room breakfast as an option on the website and this particularly appealed to me so I pre-booked this. After check in I enquired at reception about this I was given some forms to complete, but it felt a little like I was being persuaded to have breakfast in the restaurant instead, but went ahead with the in room option and gave a time for this. Next morning 15 minutes after the agreed time we had to call reception to get breakfast delivered as we hadn’t heard anything (it was very nice when it arrived but note the breakfast is cold options only).
The first night of our stay we ordered room service, with the current situation there are understandably no menus in room, but there I found a menu online on the Novotel website, which turned out to be out of date which was a little frustrating. The food arrived pretty quickly and was extremely good.
Another change because of the current climate is to remove cups and drinks from rooms. These can be picked up at reception, I wish I’d known this as I checked in as being thirsty on arrival I ended up going straight back down to pick up cups and tea bags.
For various reasons we needed to use the in room phone during the stay which was hard work as the line was always so bad which made life difficult.
All in all a great stay with just a few niggles that wouldn’t stop me from coming back.

We were originally booked into the Ibis next door, but we were moved to this hotel due to the Ibis not being open due to Covid restrictions. We arrived & were greeted with a warm welcome. Our room was spotlessly clean, spacious and the bed was super comfy with great pillows too! USB charging points & plugs at each side of the bed was great also. Shower powerful, bathroom quite spacious & some toiletries too! Also a hairdryer, ironing board, iron and fridge. There was a massive tv in room which was great. We ate in the restaurant in the evening, the food was good and again the staff were so friendly. We ate in the bar area, even with these challenging times it still felt relaxed.
We’d paid for breakfast at the Ibis, so got a breakfast here, we had to pre order, a slight problem was at the Ibis breakfast was from 4am, here we were told 5am onwards, which made it a bit of a rush for us, although my breakfast order wasn’t correct, the gentleman offered to make another for me, we didn’t have the time to wait. These things happen. Breakfasts are given to you wrapped, you can eat it in the bar or take it away with you, no buffet option at present, which is understandable. Masks must be worn inside the hotel, this was adhered to and felt safe.
We parked in car park 1 just across from the hotel and the departures was only a few steps away, so perfect.
We’d definitely stay here again.

We stayed at the Birmingham Airport Novotel the night before an early flight in September 2020. We had previous previously stayed at the nearby Ibis hotels and had been disappointed with our room due to the lack of air conditioning, which is very important on hot days/nights in a location where you can't leave the windows open due to the noise of passing planes. The Novotel is more expensive than the Ibis hotels but, based on our recent experience, we think the extra cost was well worth it. We booked a standard room, but on arrival were allocated a room on the Executive floor (522). The room had been recently redecorated and had all the facilities that we needed. It was very quiet, and we had a really good night's sleep there before our flight. We will definitely stay there again if we fly from Birmingham Airport in future.

As the price of a room was about the same as an early morning taxi we decided to stay here due to the early flight next day. It is conveniently situated opposite the terminal and beside car parks. If travelling by bus they stop outside and there is a shuttle to the International station about two minutes away. Check in was quick and straight forward. The room was spacious and beds comfortable. Usual amenities were in the room, a nice view of the airport from the room but no noise and a separate shower and toilet rooms. There is a bar downstairs which sells food. There is also a restaurant but was not open when we visited. This was the second time we had stayed here in the last two months and both stays were more than satisfactory. From our observations the hotel is fully COVID safe.

For a short two night stay, this hotel was extremely conveniently located, almost attached to the airport, and within walking distance to the monorail that takes you to the train station in less than two minutes. The hotel was very modern (either recently built or refurbished). The room was comfortable. The breakfast was ample and open from 5:00 am which was helpful on our departure day as we had a 7:00 am flight. Staff were most helpful whenever their help was needed. Well done!

After booking a flight with an early start, I thought it would be best to have a overnight hotel stay so that we'll be more refreshed for our flights the next day. This hotel fits the bill nicely, being right next to the airport for the departure day flights, and also the AirLink (currently suspended and replaced by an electric shuttle bus) to the NEC and ResortsWorld. Very comfortable night sleep, though don't rely on the TV to wake you up as it didn't come on when the alarm was set up! No phones in room either for a wake up call.
Also - I had a bit of a faff with Novotel. I originally booked for the previous night under their book with confidence guarantee when Jet2 started moving their flight times around for Spain before cancelling altogether. I had paid upfront via PayPal, but didn't receive a refund as promised. Turned out the hotel couldn't see the credit, however all sorted now. This is why it's 4 stars and not 5, though if you pay via credit card direct this situation may not occur if you have to cancel. Also, the cancellation was because amendments in dates couldn't be done online - if it was made a bit more clearer that an email to the hotel direct could sort this out then it would of been better.

Indeed when a payment is done directly to the hotel is easier for us to track down the credits but glad was already solved. Please do not hesitate to visit us next time you use Birmingham Airport. Best regards, David Terron - Rooms Division Manager
