Just leaving as I type, booked in through work for b&b, took a stag do to the races and after dropping them off in Newcastle arrived at this place, NO BAR, NO FOOD, room was damp, (sorry but £50 per night b&b and only continental breakfast) had to go to the half moon pub at the bottom of the road... Chose this place as we had a business meeting nearby. Arrived on a cold November afternoon to find the receptionist huddled in a fur hooded fleece!! Our bedroom was freezing cold, although our son had a portable electric heater in his, which he put in the bathroom to warm that up as there is no heating in there at all,... More

Obviously a good hotel in it's time but most of it is now shut down, only bed and continental breakfast available. In need of major up grade. Room small but adequate. Continental breakfast only very average. One young girl left to be receptionist and waitress.

Beautifully spacious and spotless twin en-suite facing the front of the hotel. Very quiet. Attentive, helpful staff throughout. Super breakfast with great service. Would have eaten here but the restaurant part of the business is now closed. Staff did say however that they could provide a meal as we had expected to be able to eat there, albeit it a... More

Stayed for two nights as was up for a wedding. Everything was fine.... it's certainly not five stars but for the price I think it was fair . The young girl on reception was amazing even looked up the route to the wedding for us without us asking she was brilliant. Bed comfortable.Continental breakfast was ok plenty of tea coffee... More

A mixture: reasonable price via Booking.com, staff keen to please, handy location, and quiet. The room (18) was rather cramped (particularly the bathroom) and unwelcoming and, like the rest of the hotel, tired and in need of renovation. Carpets, décor, lighting etc really do need replacement throughout. The room had no bedside lamp on one side and the other didn't... More

I'm sure in it's day this place was excellent, a great buildings, some lovely architectural features, great public areas and the rooms are ok. Unfortunately I have very little else to comment on that's positive...oh yes, sorry forgot, the parking is free. Apparently this used to be a full on country house hotel but has recently been downgraded to a... More
