Having seen this hotel win "4 in a bed " tv programme, we booked a courtyard room for ourselves and our dog. However as we needed a shower cubicle rather than one over a bath, we were allocated Room 3 instead on arrival despite previous telephone assurances. Although small it seemed OK- large comfy bed with good quality linen. However...

Our stay at the White Hart excelled our expectations, staff would so friendly and provided helpful advice on local restaurants. Our room was tastefully decorated, very clean and had everything we needed to ensure a comfortable stay. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in!!! Tea / coffee facilities were spot on and the toiletries...

Location excellent opposite Cathedral and Square. Must be 300 years old with history and character but rooms are small and our bathroom needed updating with at least a decent shower to replace the cheap plastic one in situ, but that is the drawback of a city without any competition from the chains all the local hotels are in the same...

Fabulous food, loved the menu. Staff were great and very helpful. Only reason not to give 5 star was due to rooms not being very sound proof. We could hear people walking about on first floor late at night and early morning, without much trouble! However, this may be due simply due to the age of the building. Great location...

Peaceful night in a comfortable room. Old hotel with modern rooms which served well. Location in center of town within easy walk of the marketplace and eating establishments. Well appreciated, thank you!

A great little hotel, in a perfect location right in the centre of Wells, very close to the cathedral and market square. Very friendly & cheerful staff who were most obliging. Delightful restaurant served an excellent dinner and breakfast. The bed was enormous and very comfortable & good to have tea making facilities with big mugs, rather than horrid little...

I booked the hotel for my elderly mother and my brothers. I booked the room on line OK. Trying to confirm the booking was initially a trial as the phone number on the web site was never answered. However I finally sent an e-mail which was answered virtually immediately and the telephone number on the e-mail differed from that on...

I stayed one night at this hotel. Room was nice and clean. Unfortunately the radiator was on full blast and we were unable to turn it off. This resulted in my husband having an uncomfortable nights sleep. There was a shower attachment to the bath taps, so not great if you're a shower fan. Breakfast was good but a bit...

The seasonal rate for dinner, bed and breakfast was very good value. Our room was on the first floor at the back of the hotel and overlooked a small courtyard, which is now the hotel's car park (and could be a test of your manoeuvring skills if you have a large car!) The room was large, with a small sofa...

We really enjoyed our stay with you. The room was just fine we love quirky not run of the mill hotels. Really comfortable accommodation with everything required apart from a shower cap but I always pack one so not an issue. Lovely to be in the middle of the town and to wake up to market day (Wednesday) was an...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Recently taken over by new owners (September 2015) the 15th century White Hart Hotel is situated in the city centre just 10 short steps from the famous Cathedral. Its 15 en suite bedrooms make the perfect base from which to explore Wells and the surrounding area. The restaurant serves locally sourced British food cooked by Head Chef Matthew Briddon (River Café). Wells is a medieval city nestling on the southern side of the Mendip Hills with the mystic Somerset Levels stretching away to the south and west. The history of Wells goes right back to Roman times when it was known that there was a settlement, probably because of the springs that bubble up here. Wells gets its name from these springs which can today be found in the gardens of the Bishop's Palace. Bristol, Bath, Glastonbury, Glastonbury Tor, Cheddar, Clarks Village, Wells Golf Club and Longleat are all close by. ... more   less
