This is a fantastic hotel. No bad points at all. The only thing I found disconcerting was we had to park in Dunster car park which is a very short walk from the hotel, but in the end I was worrying over nothing and the hotel refund your parking fees. If your lucky you will find parking outside the hotel....

Seen those stylish meals served up by the contestants in 'Masterchef'? Want to experience the real thing? Well then! visit the Luttrell Arms. Fine dining indeed in elegant surroundings with warm and attentive waitress service. An excellent dining experience to remember for a long time

Thank you for your feedback on the blue cheese tart which was passed on straight away to the head chef. I believe your comments at the time were "It had never seen cheese in it's life!" This dish has now been completely changed. I apologise the burger was missing salad but I presumed everything else was fine with your meals...

Lovely hotel, rooms was great with a lovely view of the garden. Clean, quiet and comfortable with all the extra's you need. As most of the local restaurants were closed. We ate mostly at the hotel having a 3 course meal which was on special with a bottle of wine. The second night we ate in the bar area and...

Finally, wish came true to stay overnight..and I don't know where to start..all the staff are lovely and some are full of humor which I adore,...

On arrival at The Lutterell Arms we were informed of an upgrade of or room. We walked into a fantastic bedroom with a four poster bed. The hotel's situation was lovely, super gardens and a view of the Castle. We met friends for an evening meal which was lovely and well served. We could have done with more vegetables included...

Thank you for taking the time to review us on TripAdvisor, we have taken your feedback on board with regards to the vegetables. I am not exactly sure if you dined in the bar or restaurant but In Psalter's Restaurant, our menu composition is such that the main courses can be supplemented with a side order of vegetables, but we...

Popped in for a spot of lunch whilst visiting the castle. Was seated straight away which was a surprise considering how busy they were, you ordered food at the bar which was convenient enough. Food arrived quickly and looked very appealing, food was hot and tasted good. I ordered ham egg and chips and my partner had steak ciabatta and...

We ate a lunchtime meal at the Lutrell arms today. As usual the service was good and the atmosphere busy but nice. We both ordered red mullet with citrus salad as a main course. When the meals arrived the quality was good ( as it usually is) however the size of the portions can only be described as pathetic. Two...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Luttrell Arms is a 3 star, 28 room hotel. Set in the medieval village of Dunster with its many interesting buildings, under the shadow of the Castle and within the Exmoor National Park. The privately owned 14th century Luttrell Arms is surrounded by beautiful countryside making it the ideal destination for that weekend break or midweek getaway. Stroll around the village, walk the moor, or just sit by a log fire in a building where hospitality has been a way of life for hundreds of years. Heritage "If you could bottle the air in the bar at the Luttrell Arms and sell it you'd clean up" so wrote a local journalist. The smell of logs burning on the fire, a hint of hops from the pints of ale, add to this the smell of something aromatic being cooked in the kitchen, and the most essential element - the smell of history, it oozes out of the walls which have stood for 800 years. There are many outstanding architectural features, the medieval hall with its hammer beam roof (room 17) and twelve light window. History seeps out of the blackened frames, which had their glass rattled loose as Cromwell’s gunners laid siege to Dunster Castle from a defended strong point at the end of the garden. Cromwell’s Commander, Col. Robert Blake walked the corridors of the hotel, it was then called the Ship Inn and was used as his headquarters throughout the siege of the castle. Also of note is some very fine plasterwork on the ceiling of the lounge downstairs, and the plaster over mantle in room 12, showing Actaeon being devoured by hounds. The Arms of Luttrell that we use today carry us back to a Gentleman of 1261, the crest takes us only back to 1621, but the supporters are directly derived from one of the Barons who coerced King John into sealing Magna Carta. A more modern visitor is Hercule Poirot. In "The Cornish Mystery" he confronts the murderer in one of the hotel’s bedrooms. ... more   less
