Abbey Hotel Bath is an experiential hotel for people seeking true Bathonian encounters – a place for discerned travellers, admirers of British Quintessentialism and in-the-know locals alike. At the heart of Bath and inspired by the city’s most celebrated icons, it blends the new with the old, the refined with the comfortable and the local with the worldly. The art, the stories, the experiences have all been purposefully directed to showcase old and new Bathonian talent. Guests are immersed in rich history, architectural beauty, regional artistry and craftsmanship in this art-driven 62-bedroom hotel. Built in 1739, the building composed part of John Wood’s vision for Bath. Now in its XXI act, it has once again risen to play a role in Bath’s rich narrative, to serve as a gathering place for the city’s most interesting voices – makers and thinkers that inspirit Bath – and a place for visitors and locals to unwind.

The Abbey Hotel in Bath was amazing. I came up for a one night stay and couldn’t have been more pleased. The staff were incredibly accommodating and efficient, the room was cozy and clean and the location was perfect. Rajeev at the front desk was particularly wonderful. I’d recommend the Abbey Hotel to anyone coming to Bath.

We enjoyed our stay at the Abbey Hotel in Bath. The staff at the hotel was exceptional, especially Sally in the restaurant. She was a warm greeting in the mornings and was always well prepared. The breakfast selections were excellent with plenty of variety. Thank you Sally for your great hospitality!

Wonderful! Spent a couple of nights here and as 4 adults we all absoutely throughly enjoyed this beautiful hotel with the most welcoming, professional and friendly staff. Very homely, good breakfast, lovely rooms. Couldn't fault a thing hence I'm writing this review. We will 100% only choose this hotel again when back in Bath. Great location and easy walk to everywhere. Thank you.

The hotel is situated very conveniently to both the railway station and also the centre of Bath. Our room was on the third floor and Generally speaking, the lift came quite quickly, however, we did notice that all the staff had to use the lift for general housekeeping work. The twin room we had was very clean and the bathroom was nice. However, there were some stains on the carpet. Just a little niggle was that the housekeeping in the room left something to be some desired, often we were left without teabags And the beds looked like we had left them after the housekeeper had been. If I was to stay at this hotel again, we would definitely ask for a room at the back of the hotel as we were facing the main square which had a lovely view. However, the noise at night/ early morning was horrendous. You are situated next to 2 bars and also in front of the hotel, there was a food truck which was there overnight. The noise this generated went on until about 4 o’clock in the morning and on one night resulted in a fight with the police being called. Cars pull up in front of the hotel with their music, blaring and their doors wide open having a competition to see who would play the loudest ! I’m surprised no one has complained about this before. The walls of the hotel are quite thin which is understandable due to the age of the hotel. However, people were very inconsiderate and had their TV up very loud. Also slamming their main doors at midnight and 1 o’clock in the morning. We only had breakfast once at the hotel, but was quite disappointing as the continental choice was very limited. The reason for not giving this hotel, a lower score was the fact that the staff were absolutely lovely and couldn’t do enough for you, especially all the team on the reception desk

We take great pride in providing exceptional service in all areas of our operation and it is most concerning that you did not find this to be the case. We spent a night at this wonderful hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. A special mention to Megan at the front desk who helped up with several requests. The hotel is perfectly located to explore the city. A beautiful hotel and we were luck to receive a room upgrade. Breakfast was fantastic. Will definitely plan a return visit.

I chose The Abbey Hotel as I am a member of the Marriott Bonvoy programme and it is perfect for those unencumbered by a car and who want a central location in the heart of Bath. So I have stayed before, a few times, and stays have been pleasant. The staff are very pleasant with a warm welcome and offer to assist with luggage. I was upgraded on arrival to a lovely large newly decorated room with huge bathroom (no Bath though, which I found odd given the space). Despite being new, the shower cubicle already dribbles water out on to the wooden floor at the corners and the soap rack wont stay level as the toiletries provided are too heavy resulting in them falling off. The toiletry range of soaps and shampoos are lovely and available for purchase at reception. I enjoyed the tea and coffee making facilities and complementary cans of water. I could not get the bedroom to heat up despite following instructions on the writing desk so it was a little chilly but the stay was ultimately spoiled by the noise from outside. Room 511 is right over the street and between midnight and 0230 the drunken antics and shouting of city residents was unbearable. It is always a hazzard when staying in a centrally located hotel but Bath has a fair amount of hotels to choose from so I’d suggest either asking for a room at the back of the house(s) or choose somewhere else. At breakfast I chose the pancakes which were awful; uncooked and stodgy. Nothing light and fluffy like you’d get in the USA. Despite several staff walking by several times, nobody checked if I was okay even though it was clear the pancakes had only one mouthfull taken out, so the level of service is not very attentive. Coffee comes from insulated large dispensers for self service and it wasn’t really hot. I would stay again for my Marriott Bonvoy points but not if I were bringing a guest to impress or on a special occasion

Absolutely perfect stay. Lovely hotel, couldn’t be in a better spot for exploring all of the wonderful things that Bath has to offer! We booked a gallery room as a treat, but we were upgraded to a family gallery room which was so nice. 2 huge bedrooms with 4 poster beds and a massive bathroom with separate roll top bath and shower. Decor was fresh and clean. The bed was so comfortable I would have loved to bring it home. Every member of staff that we came in to contact with was so friendly and helpful, you could see that they took pride in their work. Breakfast was plentiful and nice, cooked how you like it, with a selection of pastries, toast, muffins, fruit and juice to choose from too. Overall a fantastic stay, we would definitely stay here again. Thank you

I attended the Abbey Hotel Bath 2 months ago for a work conference in one of their conference rooms and they caterered for us. I told them before attending I have a severe allergy to sesame, even traces and I warned them in plenty of time. On arriving, nibbles came into the room and I asked the waitress again about my severe allergy and she said there is no sesame or any traces, but she didn’t seem certain so I asked if she can ask the chef, ideally the chef could come and show me, as there were so many nibbles and I wanted to be certain. There were many different types of sandwiches but none were labelled. The chef came down and said all is fine and no traces of sesame. So I started to put some sandwiches on my plate and I thought “that smells like hummus…”, which is notoriously full of sesame. I then luckily didn’t take a bite as my colleague said yes that’s sesame. If I had eaten just a bite, it could have been fatal. I then told all the staff and didn’t hear much back. So I went back the next day and asked to speak to the general manager, Gavin Davies, and he reassured me he would carry out a full investigation, he took my details and followed it up with an email saying he’ll look into it and now, nearly 2 months later he hasn’t bothered to respond even after I emailed him again! I am completely disappointed and appalled by this as this is a 4* hotel with a good reputation. If you are considering visiting with allergies please think again as they clearly don’t care and health is on the line..

Visited Bath for the Christmas market and was looking forward to a relaxing night away. Check-in was fine, and the staff vert pleasant. We had an evening meal in the hotel which was very nice and chatted to the staff, all good. But the main part of booking a hotel is to get a good night sleep. I think we stayed in room 208, and the noise from the air con/heating above our room was horrendous. Our hearing we'd turned off, but still the noise was awful. Awake most of the night and gave up at 5 am. I mentioned this on check out, and the guy in the room next to me had the same issue. He said he been there a number of days and hardly slept. The front desk apologised and said they'd get the duty manager to call me. I left my number and over a month later, still no call. The main part of booking a hotel room is to get some rest/sleep, so to me, this hotel failed.
