We've been calling in to this pub for a drink for many years. It is a classic ! Welcoming staff, an open fire in the winter and good beer. The walls are coved with hunting memorabilia and information about the pub, which has been there for hundreds of years. It is a bit dark, but feels like a proper pub....

Lovely scenic drive on the roller coaster that is Strines road. But disappointing food and comic service; thin fish cakes minus the fish; treacle sponge minus the treacle. I had a ploughmans; salad with no lettuce; a slice and a half of bread not the crusty baton I had pictured. The cheese was good and lots of it but come...

This is a classic old pub - and I mean old. Having been out for a very wet walk in the Peaks the lunch was just what the doctor ordered. No frills - just good, old-fashioned pub food. We can particularly recommend the Yorkshire pudding with sausages, the steak and ale pie and the spicy bean burger.

the reason I have given such a high score when the food was so terrible is simply because the room itself was so amazing! it literally took our breath away when we walked in. OK so the furniture doesn't match but it does feel like you've stepped back in time to C17th and we were staying at a coaching inn....

We stayed here for one night to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was fantastic, our room was lovely, great views, comfortable and quirky, wished we had booked it for two nights. The fire in the bar area was very welcoming after an afternoon walking on the peaks. Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Bar food was...

Whilst walking the Bamford Edge, I noticed a pub on the ordnance survey map and made a detour for it. What a great little place. Peacocks wandering around the pub grounds, a roaring fireplace and refreshingly un-modernised. Quite an extensive menu for a small pub. Had soup starter then "pie of the day", which was excellent. Necked 3 pints of...

The walk down a dirty corridor was enough to make up our mind about staying. The room itself was clean but did have a musty smell to it. It is very old fashioned in terms of bed linen, etc.. and nothing matches. That said it was clean, warm and comfortable and the staff were friendly.

Stayed overnight in one of the 3 comfortable rooms; decent size, clean and dog friendly (the original reason we booked). The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful (the barman even gave our son a lift back to Sheffield when the cab company refused to come out) and the bars were full of walkers and locals. The location is a bit...

Try the Bankss Amber Bitter. Enjoyed one on the table outside. Amazing pub, amazing people and food and a location that is picture postcard perfect. Every time I'm in the UK I try to visit this pub. It truly is the pinnacle of a British pub.

We called in today after a long walk for a pint and a rest (thinking this would bd nice end to a lovely day) and enquired about food. We found the bar man rude and unhelpful. We found him to be facetious when asked a reasonable question, obnoxious, undermining to the other barman and impatient. Maybe he was tired? Maybe...
