The wife and I stayed at The Randolph for our recent wedding anniversary. We have visited Oxford many times but had never stayed overnight so we wanted to push the boat out.
The Randolph has a reputation for being the best in the city and from our experience over two nights we can vouch for it.
Everything about the hotel smacks of class. From front of house to the bedroom and the bar. it is all top notch. We didn't dine there as we wanted to try the diverse offer in Oxford.
I can not recommend this hotel highly enough. Yes it is pricey but you get what you pay for - a top class service which made our celebration all the more memorable.
We fully intend to return in the not too distant future.

The hotel seems to have been recently refurbished to a high standard. The reception staff were very polite and helpful on our arrival and at check-out. Our room was very clean and tastefully decorated with a mix of contemporary and traditional features with excellent facilities (for example there was a modern large flat screen TV on the wall, but the hotel phone had a traditional dial). The hotel has an all-day restaurant called The Alice that is very tastefully decorated with an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ theme with pictures from the stories hung on the walls. It is very light and airy with a high ceiling and views of the city in daylight during breakfast. The food was delicious and the service excellent. The hotel is situated in the centre of Oxford within easy walking distance of the colleges and the shops.

A hastily, but much needed brief stay at a Hotel known by it's reputation location and now its new refurbishment. A spacious superior double room with large bathroom and shower all tastefully decorated in a style, that to me, was synonymous with another opulent era in which The Randolph became renowned. Afternoon tea in "The Drawing Room" was both decorous as the food was tasty it was a family treat. The right stay for the right personal occasion.

Given the special occasion for our visit and the mocay paid for the simple double room we found the overall experience somewhat disappointing.
The facilities in the rooms are basic and one has to request robes, slippers and even an alternative to tea or coffee.
Requesting clean coffee cups the the attendant just washed out our current ones in our bathroom sink. This just suggested that this was the practice from visitor to visitor.
Toothpaste on the bathroom wall was also a nice decorative feature.
The hotel seemed a little understaffed and one had to find someone to serve at the bar. Cocktail training for bar staff (for basic classics) might also be in order.
The hotel is in a good location but offers overpriced carparking for visitors to the city so I'd recommend the public parking just around the corner ( good luck with the payment app).
Just hoped for an amazing 5 star city break and the money we paid just did not deliver that experience at all.

Bring lots of patience because you will need it all along.
Starting with staff - very unprepared. I could guarantee that they have had no training whatsoever. Especially at reception and at the restaurant/ breakfast. This hotel has poor management with no idea of what good service - or excellent service, if you take into account what is charged per night- should be all about.
Breakfast is also of poor quality, which is in sharp contrast with what you are led to believe by the looks of the room. Not only is quality poor, there is nothing healthy in sight. And again, brace yourself for appalling table service.
Then cleaning: the room service was constantly failing: failing to change towels, to change bedsheets, to leave water or toiletries. Here again, you need lots of patience if you want someone to take care of your room.
The hotel has small rooms, rather stuffy.
Prepare yourself to take care of your own luggage through hotel stairs which are not serviced by the elevator.
Concierge: when I asked for a small group tour guide, the answer was “I’m sure there are many in town”.
All in all, a superb case study of how lack of management can ruin a sizeable investment.

paid top money for what i assumed was going to be top hotel, how wrong could i be! nowhere to get ready, awful light in room, so dark! carpet dark too and made it hard to find my black shoes! yes im not joking. i had to bend down to look for them but i did see the carpet need hoovering, lots of crumbs and loose dirt. no dressing table or a plug near a mirror, no full mirror only using mirror decoration on wardrobe door. shower fluctuated hot to cold constantly. room was too hot but window wouldnt stay open. no toilet roll holder anywhere. shower door had gap that caused bathroom floor to flood. This is all before the joke they called breakfast. 3 managers, 8 waiters/waitresses, 10 guests! hadnt got a clue! waited ages for food, other guests were complaining and some left before eating anything. no sugar or butter and waited 10mins for each, so cold toast and cold tea. waiter starting pouring what looked like hot water in cup from teapot and didint stop, then moved to fill other cup.wtf! cups had lipstick marks. we were one of first down for breakfast and the buffet was grubby, sticky & very unappealing. tongs were hard to use so you would imagine people using hands. berry compote pot was sticky and needed cleaning. it was so bad it actually made us laugh. never will i go there or any other graduate hotel because it was a joke, so expensive yet so bad. great location though!

It's unfortunate to write this review as we were really looking forward to staying here (the photos and website make it look great), but I wouldn't recommend staying here given the price.

First impressions were good. Good location close to the city centre and various attractions, lobby and reception interior were lovely, well decorated and reception staff were nice.

But then the cracks started to show: we had arrived early so reception said they'd contact us when our room was ready. This never happened; it was only when we asked to access our luggage that he then said our room was ready. It was a very long walk to our room (a good 3-4 minutes) which involved going up and down stairs including a stairwell which had no carpet on it and marks on the wall (it felt like we were going to the servants' quarters). We booked a Graduate Deluxe King room, and the room itself was well decorated with good amenities. But it was over looking a side street next to a loud bar, the promise of a king size bed was actually two twin beds put together, the lamp switches were sticky, water marks on the bathroom tiles, the adjoining door (to the adjacent room) was unlocked, it was just not the level we expected given the price of our room. To be fair to the staff, we requested ear plugs (as we knew it would be noisy at night, which it was) and they sent some to us.

The worst part was breakfast though. I went down first and, after being seated, I wasn't given a menu. When I was finally given one and ordered tea and breakfast, my tea arrived with no milk (had to ask for that). My wife arrived later, ordered tea and breakfast. 15 minutes later, nothing arrived, had to ask where her tea and breakfast were. The lady didn't apologise and was abrupt when she heard this like it was our fault for enquiring. Breakfast then arrived shortly after but without toast, so we then had to ask for that. Toast arrived but was cold and half-toasted and the tea arrived but we didn't have any clean cups. And the breakfast itself was average, not as good as it should have been for an aspiring hotel like this. The worst part was the rude staff member who seemed to think it was our fault.

For a hotel charging £300+ for a deluxe room per night, we expected more and it failed to deliver. If it were c.£200 a night, we could forgive them but not at this price. We won't be coming here again, and we wouldn't recommend staying (unless you get a good deal and definitely don't get breakfast included, go into Oxford for breakfast).

I love the details in the theming around Alice in Wonderland and the university. Even the do not disturb signs and key cards carry the theme forward. Very clean, excellent beds & WIFI, great location. While the room has a vintage quality, the bathroom has every modern convenience while looking appropriately period. Definitely worth it if you want a charming room in a great location.

Having stayed at a Graduate Hotel in Cambridge we came with a few expectations. The location is ideal if you want to explore Oxford city centre but if you come by car its pricey in Oxford City Centre but they want to limit the cars in the centre so it is expected. We paid £40 at Gloucester Green carpark, Just a few minutes stroll from the hotel. I think the hotel charges £45 for valet parking so gives you an idea. The hotel is tastefully decorated and covers the themes of the city Alice and Morse. Our room was a double £300 per night no great view and the double bed was two singles pushed together, expected a bit more but it was comfy. Bathroom was large and very clean plenty of towels etc. What let the hotel down was the standard of service. We were dining out so wanted to have a pre dinner cocktail. Both bars were full, The Morse bar is very small but sat in the Drawing room which was very full with only one young lady serving. We ordered two drinks which took 20mins to arrive and they were disgusting. I paid for the drinks and said to the lady about the drinks and the reply was " perhaps we can get them right next time ". There was obviously not enough staff on duty. We came back after dinner and was told the Alice bar was closed, why its a beautiful bar you are not using a great asset. We went to the Morse Bar again it was full so ordered some drinks and sat in the Drawing Room. Callum the behind the bar was amazing and made a drink that was not on the menu. So good I went back and got some more. Breakfast in the Alice Room was decent although we were not told that we could order different coffees or other items of breakfast. Check out was seamless although I did complain about the service charge for the drinks at 12.5% . Seriously charging me to order my own drinks and taking them back to our seats. If you are charging that much a room you do not put service charges on the bill. When you market yourself as a 5 star hotel then the little details have to be right and unfortunately they didn't during our stay. Yes I am picky but at that room rate you expect better.

The Randolph has been completely refurbished and appears in a very welcoming style, with a nice balance balance between modern and new and very traditional English conservatism. We especially appreciated the bar at the reception which we quickly named The Morse Bar”!
So why a poor rating?
Unfortunately the staff is not well enough trained or sufficiently experienced to run the facility at the standard that the hotel and the guests deserve.
A few examples: Forgetting to change towels, and then replace half and let the rest remain around on the floor.
Or: Offer to cut a hamburger in two to be shared, then forget and fail to offer to correct when reminded.
Or: Serving red wine in small, warm glasses…
We could go on; it was all these non-smooth guest experiences that made this a bit misery.
We hope the service quality will improve - it should be a very high priority for management.
Paraphrased: The refurbished “hardware” of the hotel stands out positively, but the “software” fails.
