We stayed at this Marriott for one week primarily for its location, however there are many issues that could make this a much better hotel. The rooms are extremely small with minimal storage. The bed was comfortable, and we slept well, but only one person could walk around at a time, and there was one chair next to the window. We had a "castle view"! One evening after being out all day we found no towels had been replenished, someone did bring them up quickly. The floor was soiled and a little sticky. I cannot recommend the restaurant; the food is al frozen and reheated. once was enough for us! The front desk personnel told me there are no laundry facilities nearby, but I happened to run into a gentleman with a minivan who provides a mobile pickup/delivery service, he was willing to wait for me to run upstairs and grab my laundry and said he would return it that evening, but we had to be somewhere so I couldn't take advantage of it unfortunately. Something the front desk should know! I am a Marriott Bonvoy member, and I did have 2 free nights, but I don't know that I would stay at this particular hotel again. …
For those that are Marriott status members, in the US a Courtyard is anything but an exceptional experience, even for Titanium level folk. But in England they know how to treat their valued clients. Rosella was a prime example of striving to make sure her valued guests feel special. She went out of her way to ensure we had a pleasant dining experience in town, providing recommendations for several restaurants. When we mentioned we like Italian food, her face lit up as she knew THE BEST place to get authentic Italian cuisine. Being from Italy herself, she was quick to point out aside from her homemade pasta, this was the only place she would ever eat. She then called the manager and personally made a reservation for us, speaking in Italian of course. Sure it crossed our minds that this might be her great grandmother's establishment (it isn't), but we didn't mind. Rosella wanted to make sure we provided any feedback to her. Sadly we missed her to report back that Gino's totally blew away our expectations. It was a very quaint, family run establishment that didn't go for flare but rather put most of their effort into making the best pasta we've had in quite some time. When we mentioned to the manager as we were leaving that Rosella sent us with praise the couple next to us that were clearly locals echo'ed that this neighborhood restaurant truly was the best Italian in town. Not only did Rosella strive to ensure our foodie cravings were satisfied, but she genuinely offered if there were anything else that would make our stay more pleasant to be sure to let her know. When we asked if there were a computer available with a camera for our supervised COVID test required to get back to the US, she tried to pull all strings possible to see if she could produce one, but we totally expected that it was a hard ask. The fact that she tried and the effort she put into it deserves praise. This is service at it's best, especially for a Courtyard! The hotel itself was clean, had a nice breakfast (something else we miss in the US during the COVID era), is in a great location, and really a fine enough hotel for a quick visit. We would definitely stay there again since we're tied into the Marriott system, but even if we weren't, it's an affordable option for the area. Their website leads one to believe you can get a nice Old Fashion or the like, but they do NOT make cocktails. A shot of Maker's Mark with another of Cointreau was the best I could get the server to do for me. (Hey, when in a pinch... Don't judge me.)…
I travel a lot on business but this was my first trip since the pandemic. Really impressed. Rooms fairly compact but more than adequate, nicely decorated and clean. Bed and pillows were extremely comfortable, on the firm side which I prefer. Good soundproofing of rooms. Service and breakfasts were friendly and good, though the breakfast area is very small and gets crowded. I gave up on having a hot drink on one of the days. There is no room service or restaurant which is a shame but they allow you to order in Uber eats etc and eat them in the bar area. For a lone female traveller you do have to go down a canal path or quite lonely street as hotel tucked away behind the castle. It was fine during day but I was nervous on my own at night. Definitely on my list for further trips to Oxford.…
We visited Oxford as a group of 50 on Weds 4th/Thurs 5th May as part of a team build. I dealt with the booking of rooms etc with the hotel and would particularly like to mention Christina and Sandra who were so helpful with all my enquiries leading up to us arriving and on arriving. The team were extremely attentive when we arrived and had extra staff on the desks to assist with checking in our bags etc which we left with them whilst we went across to the business school for the afternoon Nothing was too much trouble and everyone enjoyed their stay at the hotel. The rooms were spotless , modern and spacious and we enjoyed being able to use the rooftop area for some pre dinner drinks It is in a great location for Oxford centre, we walked into town in the evening for a meal and it was literally only 5 minutes to the restaurant we chose. I would definitely recommend…
Operations Manager Louise has made this category 2 hotel feel like a much higher standard property. The staff are great, efficient, accommodating and good fun. Be nice to them. The location couldn't be better with a few minutes walk to Westgate shopping centre and many bars and restaurants. When the weather permits, the rooftop terrace is a lovely environment with great views of the castle. Breakfast is great, as are the bean to cup coffee machines. Rooms are compact but big enough, clean, quiet and well serviced. The bed was very comfortable. Lifts are fast and efficient.
