I loved our stay at Bruern (in Epsom)...one of the most relaxing, lovely holidays I've ever had. The place was beautiful as were the surroundings. The downside was having to leave... There's a certain shabby chicness to the Bruern Cottage we stayed in and athough it felt very chilly in there (even with sunshine outside) we had a lovely fire...

This place is good for the soul. I have been so many times and hope to visit so many more. When you arrive you find your cottage kitted out with the most amazing welcome pack it's above all expectations. The cottages are so quaint with lovely real fires and an olde world charm, they are not perfect but they are...

We stayed here for a week in Jan 2017. We stayed at the Epsom cottage. It's a 3 bedroom with a good size sitting room (real fire) and smallish kitchen. Private garden of a very good size - which wld be really good for summer stays. Rooms are ok. Heating is a little weak no matter what we do. Showers...

We just finished a vacation rental at Weir House at Bruern Cottages. We stayed with one other family - so a total of 4 adults and 5 young kids (aged 2-7). The setup worked perfectly, with two separate accommodation areas (one wing with 3 beds and then the upstairs with 2 beds). The living space is open plan - a...

We stayed in Cope Cottage for a few days. Peaceful location, excellent welcome hamper of local food, attention to detail, clean and beautifully decorated/presented. Family friendly, ideal for young children.

We visited from Canada to have a holiday with our son and the grand children. Bruern Cottages was the perfect solution. We were extremely well looked after and all three generations had a wonderful time. Many thanks.

My husband and I stayed for a week and one of the cottages. We loved our cottage but quite honestly, any of them would be just as perfect. The cozy feeling of the fireplace, the cozy linens on the bed, and the very clean articulate kitchen made our stay so wonderful. I loved walking around the beautiful grounds which were...

Thank you for your kind review of your stay at Bruern and it's great to hear that one week wasn't quite enough. I do agree with you though, this part of the Cotswolds does have a wealth of things to do to keep one busy for more than a week. We look forward to welcoming you again next year. All...

This is a truly amazing place. From the moment I contacted the cottages to arrange a booking, I've experienced top class customer service. My booking was handled promptly and with much professionalism. We arrived to find Sandown centrally located with a lovely commanding view of the front lawn area and excellent patio area, leading to gardens to the rear. It...

Dear HappyinRome Sorry for the delay in responding to your review about your stay at Bruern. It's always really good to know when Bruern has "hit the spot" and to also hear that it's been one of your best trips for a while, makes us extremely happy at Bruern because that's exactly what we want to hear from our guests....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In the heart of the Cotswolds, between Chipping Norton, Stow-on-the-Wold and Burford, Bruern Holiday Cottages are one of the few holiday rentals to welcome guests just as a hotel does - for a single night or for eight weeks, both during the week and at the weekend. Even though Bruern is self-catering, you are not expected to entirely provide for yourself on your first night, so when you arrive, there are essentials like milk, butter, eggs and sausages waiting for you, along with a few little luxuries like champagne, homemade cakes and local artisan cheese with biscuits. Twice National Winners of VisitBritain’s England for Excellence Award, and current holders of EnjoyEngland’s Gold Award for quality, Bruern Holiday Cottages set a new benchmark for self-catering when Judy Astor first started converting the properties in 1992, at one time comprising eight of the properties holding VisitBritain’s top grade awards, has compared with only 132 for the whole of the rest of Great Britain. Bruern offers the comfort and attention to detail of a good hotel, combined with the privacy, independence and space of home, amidst the civilised ease and style of English Country House living. However, there are four things that really set Bruern apart from other self-catering holiday rentals. Firstly, it is a paradise for children, with three playgrounds, a play cabin, a wendy house, who, toy cars and bicycles for every child and in every size - and above all other children. Lastly, there’s a games room with, pool, table tennis and table football, for older teens (and maybe older-than-teens), for whom the above are a little too babyish. Secondly, there is the decor, which eschews the monotonous orthodoxies of minimalism, being unashamedly English Country House style – the atmosphere is elegant yet comfortable, and all the properties have log fires, and canopied or four poster beds. Thirdly, the gardens, which are a blend of formal and informal elements, feature topiary, cutting gardens with box hedges, gazebos, little orchards, statuary, a wisteria tunnel, and a vast hundred yard herbaceous border. There is barely a square foot of the entire estate that has not been planned out with a passion for landscape and an eye for detail. In 1999 Bruern’s gardens were even awarded a marking of 100 out of 100 by VisitBritain that neither we nor anyone else has ever bettered; and nor will it ever be bettered, unless the laws of arithmetic change. Finally, there is the indoor swimming pool, gym and spa, which looks out on to a separate Italianate garden and terrace, with a classical portico to sit beneath in the shade. Cited by Tatler in 2009 as one of the “101 best spas in the world”, here you can book reflexology, massages, pedicures, manicures and facials. All in all, Bruern is a place that is simply unique – over eighty percent of our business comes from returning guests, and of new guests the majority come from personal word-of-mouth recommendations. We haven’t had a review score on TripAdvisor of less than 5/5 (Excellent) in 3 years – if you read the reviews, you’ll see why. ... more   less
