A fine B and B about 5 min walk outside the walls of York. Close to restaurants and the Minster and wall walk. Very welcoming hosts and good breakfast. It is located straight east of the Monkgate entry to York which is an arched stone tower entrance to the city and a way up to the wall walk. There is...

We really landed on our feet when we chose this guest house, less than a 5 min walk to the centre of York & two of the best restaurants almost on the doorstep, the room was clean, tidy & cosy, even though the guest house is on a busy main road it was very quiet, owners were very friendly &...

Host were amazing, couldn't do enough for us. Premises were spotlessly clean. Really tasty breakfast with good quality food. Would recommend highly to anyone. Location suited us perfectly. Free car parking was a bonus. Just loved the teddy bears on the bed.

One of the best place we've been! The room is lovely and the structure is a very nice typical English house. Everything is clean and fascinating! Owners' kindness and great availability is the real value of the Guest House! We really enjoyed having breakfast in a lovely living room with a classical music background coming from an old radio! How...

I stayed here with my partner and our three year old on a long weekend. We were given a family room on the bottom floor. The room was cosy but basic yet very comfortable. They had made up our daughter's bed with teddies which delighted her. The wifi and TV were a nice touch. The shower was very hot, we...

Stayed for a couple of days, first time in York, the guest house is ideal for location only a ten minute walk to the centre of York. Lovely couple who run the guest house full of information about the local area and places to eat, we will defiantly go back to York and wouldn't look at anywhere to stay

This is one of the best B&Bs I've ever stayed in. Lovely warm innkeepers who will leave you alone or give you lots of suggestions of things to do, etc if requested. Excellent breakfast. Cozy, inviting, and very clean and quiet. I loved their porcelain collection (which was spotless). Great, comfy bed. Whenever I need a lovely place to return...

Lovely welcome and so handy for the city tourist places. Comfy rooms and delicious, fresh breakfast. Great to be able to park right outside the door, but then you don't need your car for the rest of your time in York. Highly recommended!

Stayed here for two nights in September. Great location as it was just a short walk into town to all the many attractions, pubs and restaurants. We were allowed to park across the road on a pub car park. The hosts were great and very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Breakfast was lovely served from 8-9....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Monkgate Guest House is 200 years old and is only five minutes walk from York Minster and the city centre where you will find beautiful shops and restaurants and all York's attractions close to hand. The property was originally three Georgian cottages so it is cosy and rambling with the quaint features you would expect from an older property. We have two rooms on the ground floor and the other rooms are on the first floor accessed by a flight of stairs. Our breakfast room is warm and inviting and we provide a full, freshly cooked English breakfast with eggs cooked to your requirements alongside the other menu options. We have limited off street parking in a narrow driveway at the side of the house, you will be able to forget your car then and walk to all the amenities! We can however try to arrange more parking if necessary. Free wifi is available in the public rooms and most bedrooms. ... more   less
