After arriving in York last Sunday we saw this place a few minutes walk from our hotel so we made our way over to it. Delighted to see it did food. Went inside, I went straight to the bar to get some drinks while my wife and mother went to sit at a table. The gentleman behind the bar was...

Just stayed here for an overnight after a boozy day in york with a group of pals. Met by a very friendly guy when the pub opened at 12 and we were able to check in at twelve which is a real bonus as we could head into town straight away. Great location just outside the wall, 5-10 minute walk...

Went for a drink over the weekend as soon as we walked in we felt as if we were not really welcome at all. Bar man had this could not be bothered attitude as we disrupted him from his tv. Beers behind counter are all run of the mill toilet was disgusting and not cleaned a complete dive really.

Visited after tracking pub down on Google/TA (wanted a pub close to the Novotel that was showing football). Pub is indeed very close to the hotel and therefore, very convenient for those who don't want hotel prices and/or lack of any atmosphere. Pub wasn't that busy and barman was very friendly. Well thought out bar snack menu, but staff really...

I cannot tell you how happy we were to spend an evening watching the match at the Edinburgh arms. Such a friendly pub with a great group of people and wonderful proprietors. We felt so very welcome and really grateful to find ourselves at home miles from home. Didn't eat, just drank beer and watched football and felt like we'd...

Rating: 3.5 Ok, so it isn't the Waldorf Astoria, but for £20 (£25 with breakfast) for a single traveller you get a decent ensuite room with freeview TV and wireless internet (although I did not use either). That's quite a bargain if you ask me! Yes the decor is older, but it all still works. I stayed midweek and slept...

“We were given the 'family room' - double with a single bed and it was massive and so was the en-suite bathroom. LOADS of room on the window-sill to put all my make-up and stuff!”
