It all sounded lovely when I read the reports of the refurbishment works and others reviews of their visit but unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. We visited for lunch in Easter Sunday and, as anyone would expect, it was busy. The problem was in how the staff coped with the numbers of visitors. The queue at the...

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent trip to our Tearoom, it's unfortunate to hear that on this occasion your visit didn't live up to expectations. We have recruited a new catering manager who will join us in coming weeks and will be looking at how we can structure our service to ensure maximum efficiency is maintained...

We came on a school visit and I was dissatisfied with my stay because the food was bland and uncooked. The bathroom was tatty and the room was unclean. The hostel all in all had a great view but needs a lot of tlc. Also for the price of the room, I do not feel I got value for money...

Reasons I was not impressed with this hostel: - The price: it was the Easter weekend, and having stayed at another YHA hostel with the same price the previous night, clearly YHA had decided on a flat rate for the holidays. £35 a night for an 8-bed dorm is a rip-off no matter the time of year or the location,...

We stayed for four nights over Easter, an extended family group of 15. All had a really good time, lovely gardens, great for Easter Egg hunt and an amazing view. The different lounge and sitting areas were great and although the hostel seemed full, it was never too busy to find a quiet space. The location is very good and...

Went for one night and wasn't it amazing. Next day breakfast was incredible. Loved it. One last thing the staff are so kind. If I was you I would go. I said can we go again. Plus you can have lunch for a cheap prise. If you do go enjoy it.

It was dark when we arrived creating quite an enjoyable eerie atmosphere. The youth hostel is an interesting 16th century building with some wonderful features. It has an excellent location, right next to the Abbey. Parking was not an issue for us but you may need to park in a pay and display. The room was clean and the bedding...

A good weekend, excellent location. Disappointed with the lack of choice for food at the restaurant so we ventured into Whitby instead. Excellent service from the reception staff and rooms and bathrooms were generally clean and satisfactory. Fortunately we could park in the Whitby Abbey car park for free at this time of the year, otherwise we would have incurred...

Stayed one night only - was made very welcome on arrival, but took some finding in the dark! Room comfortable and spacious and great to have en suite facilities. Impressed with self catering kitchen and lounge facilities- and what a wonderful location!

Booked 2 rooms one ensuite the other private for 2 people. Basic as you expect from YHA but comfy beds. The non ensuite was situated opp a loo and adjoining bathroom with bath, shower and loo, so worked really well (no running around corridors looking for facilities!). The hostel was full but relatively quiet, good choice of lounge areas. Interesting...
