A beautiful hotel surrounded by amazing countryside and views. The staff are amazing and so accomadating, the food was great and of excellent quality. We stayed overnight and the room was lovely, clean and spacious. Highly recommended both for dining and an overnight.
Treated like a second class citizen from the second I walked in... I was ignored, tutted and sighed at for requesting an evening meal.. I had already called ahead to double check availability and told there was.. Practically had food and wine thrown at me by staff.. Food was at best on a par with microwave meals and packet sauces... Overpriced and very basic... Everything was too much trouble, the daughters of the owners run the shop, the only time I saw them engage is when a group of their friends arrived who received the VIP treatment... Although I had to battle to get my table.? The free breakfast they offer is a sea of beans, slice of toast and a cheap sausage... The breakfast staff were equally as off hand and rude the following morning... Rooms are basic but adequate... This was supposed to be a bit of a treat stay instead of premier Inn due to my travelling circumstances but really wish I had gone to PI now... Bad service is one thing but rude and aggressive is another... My first stay in the north was a unpleasant one... After trying to make contact to discuss this with the management I was once again ignored... I suppose they had taken my money and the consideration stopped the second they did... The bar manager was trying to help but drowning around the weight of everyone else's failings... If the owners read this perhaps you should consider offering him the managers position.? He's the only one that did anything constructive... The rest of the bar staff were clueless showing lack of any fundamental training... Maybe they just treat all solo travellers like this.? But you have been warned... Avoid at all cost, spend your hard earned cash somewhere people care about your stay... Don't pay to be abused....!…
Booked Birch room, the only one available. Huge bed and room. BUT: horrid bed and even worse duvet, combined with radiator that never turned off. Terrible bathroom. Bath & shower extremely dangerous to use, even with grab handles. Radiator doesn't work & taps defy operation. Gross neglect of essential maintenance / replacement. Few guests so breakfast options seriously limited, although a wide variety of evening meals available. Hotel has period atmosphere and located in country great setting, but room?
I booked a room and paid in full in January. On arrival I was informed that that they had been a price increase and that I had to pay extra as they wouldn't honour the price that I had already paid in full. On getting to our room as soon as we opened the door the smell of cigarette smoke was immediately apparent. On going to the reception my partner was asked was this a problem. (unfortunately some friends got this room as it was a function they found cigarette butt's on the window ledge) We were given another room all I can say is the finish in the bathroom is terrible. Im a self employed joiner and my 7yr old daughter could of done a better job. I have tried to upload some photos but they are to large. Not a finish you would expect from the price they charge. Apart from these things the food at the function was lovely and over the staff were friendly with the exception of one gentleman. Would I stay there again well no.…
I’ve given 4 stars because the food can be hit and miss. Usually good though. Rooms are good - not the cheapest but they are nice. Pretty close to the town too. There is a hotel in town but that is no great shakes TBH. Used to be but not now. We chose further out to make sure we had a hassle free stay which we did. Staff pretty good in the hotel and the restaurant part. We will be returning.
