The Montcalm Chilworth Townhouse is often celebrated for its prime location near Paddington Station and Hyde Park, which guests find highly convenient. Although the cozy atmosphere and decor are well-liked, some guests have found the rooms to be on the smaller side and occasionally show signs of wear.
While many travelers commend the hotel's cleanliness and the amenities provided, the value proposition is questioned due to the hotel's failure to meet some guests' expectations of a five-star establishment. The service quality appears to vary, with reports of both friendly and unresponsive staff.

Detailed Reviews
London Goals; My stay at The Chilworth was over a period of 20 days, my birthday also fell between those dates so you know I’m giving my honest opinion. While some might cringe at the thought of staying in a large city like London without a more permanent living arrangement this was not the case with The Chilworth, besides the amazing location of the beautiful property itself, my room was on the top floor with great light, and everything I needed in a little kitchenette, which only added to the cozy effect. Housekeepings timing was so on point I could step out for 30 minutes and arrive back to fresh bed linens without having to ask, they even decorated my room for my birthday complete with a bottle of Prosecco, fruit plate, and a cupcake. It didn’t look store bought so I assume one of the girls at the front desk tipped off the kitchen to make it for me, so sweet, literally. Which leads me to the highlight of my stay which has to be the entire staff themselves, they are what makes staying in a hotel not seem like staying in a hotel, you can tell they take pride in providing a personal experience for each guest. Stefany, Natia, Natalia, and Mishel are so different than just the typical gorgeous girls you see at reception, what these women also have are exceptional charismatic qualities; not only warm, and extremely helpful. They are some of the hippest girls you’ll ever meet, totally au courant, very bright, there is nothing they don’t know or can’t help you with. Stefany, the guest relations ambassador, can focus on one person for 10 to 20 minutes and be totally involved with this person. She is very bubbly, with sharp intelligence and witt, and can mesmerize a person with her personality alone, these are the people you want on your side to ensure your holiday in London will be spectacular. Sadly, I found a flat and had to check out, but needless to say I will be back because when my friends and family visit you already know where they’re going to stay! Thanks Again!

We were upgraded from the Grand Royale Hyde Park due to low occupancy which was a very welcome surprise, and handled excellently (my boyfriend received a personal message from General Manager, Mr Bhatt.)
Perfect check-in with professional reception staff. Covid procedures were implemented very well. Temperature checks were taken upon arrival, and hand sanitiser and face masks were available in the lobby.
When we arrived at our room (club double), we were ecstatic because of the quality of bed, modernness of technology, bathroom facilities and the size of the room.
We returned late in the evening and the night audit team was extremely attentive to our needs providing additional amenities for our room. I’m afraid we do not remember his name but he was extremely hospitable.
Breakfast was impeccable. We were expecting a continental package however were very pleased to be offered the full English option which was excellent.
We also booked the afternoon tea at The Hankie which was very good quality and brilliant value.
A special mention must go to Bianca who was wonderful both at breakfast and throughout our afternoon tea service. She has a perfect approach to service and made us both feel like very special guests. We really do thank her.
Thank you for making our anniversary stay so special.

My husband treated my friend and I to an overnight package stay at The Chilworth Spa Hotel in Paddington, London which included time in the spa, a 60 minute Swedish massage, an evening meal with a glass of wine or prosecco and a full English breakfast in the morning. Unfortunately, due to COVID we weren't able to use the spa which was disappointing but we still had a great time.
The room was clean and pleasant with toiletries, tea and coffee facilities included and the bed was comfortable.
On entry to the hotel masks, gloves and sanitisers were available plus there were sanitisers at the entrance to the lift.
We had a Swedish massage which was SO nice and very relaxing...we melted into the bed!
The evening meal was a 3 course Indian set menu. Our waitress was most helpful in helping us choose from the menu and we were very pleased with her choices. All staff were friendly and very helpful.
We had a fantastic stay and would happily go back when the world is back to normal!

We stayed one Saturday night in a regular room on the first floor above the front door. The price with inclusive full breakfast was the same or slightly less than a Lodge/Premier hotel within the central area. Less than ten minutes walk from Paddington concourse and set back enough from the quietist road where it occupies all the floors of at least two maybe more of a fairly stylish terrace. Don’t know when it was done up but the feel is almost as new. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Booking in and out simple and quick. Our room seemed small when when we opened the door and first threw ourselves on the bed but as we relaxed and got ourselves sorted it became satisfyingly obvious that it was equipped to a high standard with everything we could possibly need. Bathroom great but the shower will only accommodate one person at a time. Breakfast was good too. A pleasant space with an open kitchen and very helpful staff. Beware the tables are a bit small for all the plates cups pots racks mills etc and picking a table away from the food and drink tables by the kitchen may give you a bigger and less disrupted space. A good generous full breakfast with a range of eggs brought to your table within seconds of them leaving the pan.
We didn’t expect it but we had a hassle free relaxing and enjoyable stay. A good base for a short weekend.

We stayes for 3 nights at the Chilworth aa our abroad holiday had been cancelled. We had originally booked the Park Grand Hyde Park but this hotel wasn't open so we were relocated to the chilworth at no extra charge. We had previously stayed here and knew that we were able to park outside.
On arrival our room was ready and we were advised that some of the amenities had been removed from the room, but all we need to do was contact reception and they would sanitise them and deliver them to our room.
Our room was a club double (314) situated at the back of the hotel, it was spacious with a very large bed, bathroom had a bath and a shower too. The room was really quiet and the bed comfy.
We had breakfast included and ate in the restaurant, you had the option of having in your room if you wanted to. Breakfast was a full english and was very good, it set you up for the day.
We love this location as it's a 15 minute walk to marble arch, 5 minutes to Paddington Station and a few minutes to Hyde Park.
The staff here are great, I left a bracelet here and they posted it back to me.
The hotel was very clean and followed all the rules for social distancing during these strange times. Would highly recommend.

We had an incredible stay at the hotel and the staff members : Anna, Irfan and Kesh couldn’t have been friendlier. We came to leave our bags as we arrived early and we were offered a bottle of water which I thought was a very kind thing to offer as we was going to go for a walk. I left a message before I came to ask if they could add a romantic touch to the room and they went above and beyond. We received a call after about 10 minutes of being in the hotel room to ask if everything was okay with the room which shows they care for their customers. The whole hotel was extremely clean and smelt very nice and the room was also immaculate and very clean, we had no problems whatsoever. We also paid extra to have breakfast the following morning and the food was lovely and consisted of: some traditional English breakfast, yoghurts, cereal, fruit and juices and teas/coffees. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend anyone to come and stay here also.
Thank you very much for our memorable stay.

Three good things:
- great breakfast
- very kind and helpful staff in the restaurant and at the door
- great location
Size of the bed
Upon the arrival the receptionist asked if we wanted an upgrade. We answered no and she looked confused since she said it was in our booking and we had to pay extra for it. After a couple of phone calls and after we payed for the whole stay, the room was presented for us. I’m used to small rooms in London, but I have never been offered room with king sized bed that is 120 cm wide. We were two friends travelling, it was unacceptable to share this tiny bed. After a complaint and another half an hour we were offered another room with two beds for grown ups.
Credit card payment
At the arrival we were asked to pay for the whole stay which we did. The amount was withdrawn from the credit card couple of days later. But we noticed that the hotel had reserved two amounts on the credit card(for the whole stay in addition to one single night). Both of the amounts are still reserved (four nights later). Fortunately, the bank did assure us that they will cancel these reservations in next two weeks if hotel does not do it.
Rating 1 to 5 and the mini bar
Today during the breakfast we were asked to rate the stay from 1 to 5. We kindly refused. During the check out this was again a topic. We were also asked to pay for a mini bar which we did not touch. We reassured the staff that we did not even touch the Prosecco they offered us after the safe in the new room did not work. The mini bar bill was removed from the invoice.
Sum up
The hotel presents itself as a luxurious place. Unfortunately, all the “misunderstandings” make guests feel insecure and definitely far away from home.

I always stay at the Chilworth Paddington when I'm in London and I can't recommend it highly enough. The rooms are stylish and (for London) spacious with high-end amenities. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. I love the spa which is perfect after a long flight. The small restaurant serves a wonderful breakfast, and I have enjoyed lunch there too. I have seen people having afternoon tea and that also looks really nice.
The location is ideal if you are using the Heathrow Express or coming into Paddington by train as it is just a short walk away. There are lots of fabulous restaurants and pubs nearby (I like Paramount on London Street for Lebanese food, and the Mitre and Victoria pubs). You can also walk to Hyde Park and Kensington Parks easily.
As a business traveller, the Chilworth is a good base as there is a desk in the room and good wifi internet. For a shopping / leisure trip it is also well located and close to Paddington and Lancaster Gate tube stations (Paddington is the nearest).
I have stayed in a lot of similar-sized/priced hotels in the Paddington area over the years which have been mediocre at best, but the Chilworth is the best one I have found, so now I keep going back.

After originally booking the Grand Royale Hyde Park for the weekend, we received a call on Friday to say that we were being transferred to their sister hotel due to low bookings. To compensate, they included a continental breakfast for both days and a room upgrade. Slightly disappointed that we wouldn’t be staying in the hotel we booked as we love it there.
Based on the fact that this is a 5 start hotel, I assumed it would work out better for us.
We arrived at 1pm (check in is at 2) but we’re told they couldn’t hold our bags.
With an hour to wait we ordered a drink and had to sit in reception until the room was ready.
2minutes passed and the lady at reception brought a key over said they had a room ready in the basement.
Upon entering the room we were greeted by a severe sewage smell, I don’t know how anyone would be happy staying in it so went back up to reception and said we would wait until a different room was ready. In the meantime, another coupe arrived to check in (to the club room) and the gentlemen advised them to leave their bags with him and he would make sure they were put into their room for when they returned later?! I then asked why he had taken their bags and not ours, he didn’t really have an excise and said he would take our bags too.
We went out for the day and came back around 5pm, bags still sitting in reception!
The room was lovely and a good size.
Our breakfast was due to arrive at 9am (room service only due to COVID) after 3 phone calls and at 10:45am still no breakfast. We gave up in the end and went out for breakfast.
Now I actually don’t think this is a bad hotel, I think we were just very unlucky with our stay and it didn’t make a very good impression on us.
Based on our stay I wouldn’t recommend it nor would I return.
