The Grange Blooms has been our go-to hotel on our trips to London since maybe 2011, and it used to be such a wonderful little hotel with the perfect location just behind the British Museum. I am sorry to say this but the location is about the only thing which has not changed for the worse. The rooms are small which does not really bother me as hotel rooms in London are rather small in general, but it does make me sad that the Blooms has lost almost everything that used to make it special: fresh and slightly over the top but pretty décor, a complimentary newspaper slipped under your door in the morning, the friendliest service and various other nice little touches. To put it simply: this place needs a thorough make-over, and the décor is pretty much on its last stretch. We stayed for four nights, and we had to go to the sister hotel for breakfast twice as the Blooms was practically empty, and obviously there is no point serving breakfast for just a couple of people. The staff were nice as usual and did try their best but the current state of the hotel seems to affect them, too. Please, please save the Blooms : )
Thank Helena

These are observations- not complaints.
Walls are very thin - can hear everything from either side with rooms adjoining.
This was advertised as a superior room - more like a box room.
Expected more as this for the price paid.
Tired decor & bathroom has seen much better days.
However, Staff are really friendly
Good location as it is behind the British Museum,
Thank Trevor M

Was so looking forward to staying here as i'd had a lovely stay in the Clarendon earlier in the year, & Blooms seemed to be advertised as a cut above as it's in the 'townhouse' category. Staff as lovely as during my previous visit, the customer service training they're given, & the calibre of people they employ, is excellent. Unfortunately I was disappointed - bathroom so oddly designed, high sided bath which could prove difficult for some people to step in & out of when using the shower, toilet squeezed in between wall & bath to the extent that your knees & elbows frequently knocked the wall or the shower panel, so little space, in fact, that there isn't even a toilet roll holder on the wall, the toilet paper is just stacked on the shelf behind the loo! Breakfast even poorer than the Clarendon, tea already brewed & stored in vacuum flask - not pleasant. Main bugbear with breakfast was the tinned fruit offering - really? fresh fruit salad, which was delicious, was available 2 of the 3 days we had breakfast. Given the excellent location (Bloomsbury is our favourite area to stay) & reasonable cost, had really hoped we'd found a set of hotels we could alternate between for our next few London visits, but on the basis of this stay, perhaps not.
Thank Carolyn M

State of conditions of the hotel is very very average at least. this is not a cheap place to stay but the rooms so very cramped, bathroom so small could not sit on toilet without my knees hitting bath. Adjoining room noise excessive. Indifferent management and staff, So glad to leave!

Stayed here as part of the 4* Theatre Break purchased with Buy A Gift - which was £400, so assuming it is an expensive hotel which claims to be 4*. I really wouldn't recommend staying here at all. The hotel looks lovely from the outside but indoors everything is very dated and tatty. Our room was barely big enough to swing a cat, filled with old furniture and pictures which looked as though they belonged in my great grandma's house. The carpet was lifted at one side and the plug in the bath didn't work, and additionally the TV picture was completely red/pink. Which brings me to my next point, we went to the restaurant for a continental breakfast (also rubbish), and believe it or not - the walls are bright red, the carpet is red, the chairs are red. While eating breakfast, depressing classical music was played in to the room and I could barely relax enough to enjoy the dismal cup of tea, for the fear Henry VIII may behead me at any second. Such an eerie feeling in that place it's unreal! I have to say that staff seemed friendly, and as we really did just use the hotel as a place to sleep - we didn't bother to cause any unease on our trip by complaining. One perk to the hotel is the location, as you can easily walk to everywhere you want to go - but that being said, I would really consider saving your money, staying elsewhere and just getting the tube which is guaranteed to be a more pleasant experience (and that's saying something!).
Thank Amy B
