The Portobello Gold is an institution - an old school British pub with really fun and friendly staff. If you want a super smart hotel this is not the place for you. If you want good value, a reasonably comfortable room that is clean and functional, and a place with a bit of soul, then this is the place. Right...

Luckily we only booked for 1 night, the lovely gentleman who checked us in was probably the only good point to the hotel. The tiny shabby rooms with beds that make awful noises when you try and think about moving on them. Both our rooms were "en suite" but it's more a really smelly hole in your bedroom. We all...

I would like to preface this review by saying that we are currently staying in this hotel and I will be staying here til Sunday, so probably more inconveniences are about to come. We are in London for business and we booked a double room on booking.com. When we arrived, the woman I later discovered to be the owner's wife...

Worst room I've had in ten years. Top tip: stay somewhere else. Staff didn't know I was coming, didn't seem to care, showed me to a noisy grubby room with no space to swing a mouse let alone a cat. Don't know how they have the cheek to charge people to be honest.

I know this hotel is relatively low priced especially given the location. However, I have paid the same orice in chain hitels such as Holiday Inn Express and Premier Inn and got much better value for money. The stairs to the hotel (abive a pub) are sticky and smell of old food, the carpets smell of carpet cleaner. The room...

Easy to check in. Lovely continental breakfast included in the price with lots of variety. Booked the roof terrace room with superb views across London. Brilliant location, right in the heart of Portobello market so everything is on the doorstep. Perhaps a little shabby around the edges but it's easy to overlook.

Staying in Notting Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Notting Hill
As West London's friskiest corner, Notting Hill more than manages to retain plenty of the same appeal that's brought the affluent area so much worldwide attention. In this attractive cobblestoned neighbourhood, a delectable variety of eateries, independent shops, galleries and street vendors offer a delightful window into how to live the good life in London, with each presenting visitors with an experience that's a little more idiosyncratic and endearing than the last. Travelers looking to forage for antiques should be sure to visit the Portobello Road Market on Saturdays, the largest antiques market in the United Kingdom.
