Booked the aparthotel (1 bedroom apartment) 10 minutes walk, north of St pancras. Absolutely great stay. Darren drove us there from the hotel, he kept in constant touch with us, could not have been a better host. The apartment and area were lovely; in a quiet gated complex, close to some great restaurants.

A big, big thank you to Darren, the general manager. Through no fault on the hotel, their was an error with our booking (due to a third party company) but their compassionate and considerate dealing with this problem is the reason I write this review. We had booked to stay for a night in the Jesmond Dene Hotel in order for us to have a base for our weekend plans. Unfortunately, due to third party company's error (agonda), we had received confirmation that we would be staying there but the system had not updated between agonda and the hotel. On arrival, we were informed of this error and Darren was kind enough to ring Agonda and try to resolve it. Long story short - the third party company was a pain to get hold of but Darren kindly allowed us to contact them through the hotel (both my partner and I struggled). He even searched for other Agonda apartments on their behalf (a job that really goes above and beyond as this was their issue to fix). However and most importantly, knowing that we had plans and could not find another local accommodation. He offered to hold our bags, so that we did not delay/arrive late for the rest of our weekend plans and just to prevent us from having one more thing to worry about. Top tips: 1. Book through them directly and not a third party - they will give you a better rate and they can deal with the problem immediately (unlike our problem of struggling to get hold of the third party which took the best part of 2 hours on and off). 2. Kindness costs nothing and it was wonderful proof of what a difference that can make. Thank you!

Due to unforeseen circumstances my wife and I needed accommodation at short notice while traveling to our intended destination. (Had to await relative receiving result of Covid PCR test before continuing journey via London). We had previously stayed here and while that room had been ok but small, the hotel is well located. We enquired about a room and a young man told us they were closed during renovation (albeit reception lights and TV were on). We got a room at a nearby hotel. Next morning we passed by and enquired again to another young man who indicated that the hotel was open during renovation and rooms are available. Disgraceful to dismiss potential paying customers with a lie. Can only assume that either our appearance (couple in our 50's with a travel case) or Scottish accent made us somehow undesirable. We will not be back.

Being our second wedding at this venue, we decided to treat ourselves after lock-down by staying the night. The venue itself is really nice in a beautiful location, breakfast was also nice. However it is the tiny room no.16 we had which really let things down. For £120 for 1 night to be in what felt like a cupboard, with no air conditioning & hardly any room around the bed, didn’t enjoy the sleep at all. The mattress was also not that comfortable, as you could feel the springs. The bathroom could do with an tidy also - generally accommodation all needs an overhaul. When asking about air con in peak summer - reception said it’s a listed building, but come on! Plenty of other modernisation has been done to the building. Don’t buy that excuse

We had long planned a vacation to Europe and booked this seemingly good hotel. When the Covid pandemic struck, London and other area hotels were still open for limited types of guests like emergency workers, but hotels could NOT allow vacationers to stay per the UK government DURING THE DATES we were to visit. The US Department of State also confirmed this is the case. I respectfully asked for our money back, and they sort of offered a stay at a future date during 2020. Well, we don't often go to Europe (we live in the USA), and we certainly don't plan to go during the pandemic. When we pushed for more details about the offer for the future stay, they never can give any details. They blew off our requests for a refund even though they legally cannot provide a room per the UK government during the dates we were booked for. They thought they could get away with it since they thought we're so far away in the USA. Surprise! I contacted our credit card company and filed a dispute. During the dispute process, the ACTUALLY FORGED an email that looked like it came from me to make it sound I was wrong. I was shocked by what such horrible liars there were. I've stayed in many hotels, and I can tolerate many thing that go wrong. But I've never had an instance where a hotel actually committed fraud. Horrible! Needless to say, the credit card company decided in our favor and refunded the money. Do not book this hotel! They are NOT trustworthy.
