Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.

Hotel is clean and functional as is the case with most Holiday Inn Express. Location is excellent, easy walking distance to the Tate Modern, and subway stations, restaurants nearby. Staff were helpful and included breakfast was standard but good. Wait staff at breakfast were love

Exactly what I expected from an 'Express' type hotel. Relatively inexpensive, comfortable bed, clean room, adequate breakfast, friendly and helpful staff, a typical budget hotel. A perfectly good stay and I would certainly stay again.

OK, its a Holiday Inn Express, so you don't expect much.

The rooms are typical 'express' standard, similar to Travelodge.... so IMHO the beds are poor and I know I'll have a relatively poor nights sleep.

The bar/meal area is like a canteen, basic, but as you'd expect of a budge

Claudia who managed the counter was very warm and friendly. This is where you want to be if you are travelling for work. Its very businesslike nature and ambience makes it more trendy and relaxing. Simple breakfast but I swear the croissants were super-delish. I didn't get the na

I have stayed at this hotel on several occasions in the past. Last time, we flew into Gatwick - LGW, and took the Thameslink train to Blackfriars - easy walk to the hotel. This time, we are flying in to Heathrow - LHR. Once, we took the Piccadilly line, changing to the Jubilee line, and got off at the Southwark station. I recall a lot of steps, and a lot of dragging luggage around. Is there an easier tube or train option to the hotel, from LHR ? Taxi or Uber would be very expensive. Thanks to all.
You can still get the Tube to Blackfriars.

Is it true this hotel has no washcloths in the rooms?
There are no wash cloths here. It's a fab hotel and the staff are delightful. If you need a cloth you will have to bring your own. Breakfast is lovely and tasty.
