We stayed at the Athenaeum in a residence apartment from 13th to 22nd April 2017 - a family of 4. I have read some of the reviews and I think the hotel receives unjust criticism. Some people just like to complain. Great location and great service, and if you're a family with small kids, the apartments are great. The staff...

If you remember the Athenaeum hotel of the past, you may be a little disappointed by its new incarnation. The public rooms have been refurbished in a modern international style- to be fair, the hotel always tried to be a little 'edgy' about design. However, the sense of place (i.e. London) has been lost. You could be anywhere in the...

We just got married and have a break between the wedding and the honeymoon so came up to London for the weekend and stayed inThe Athenaeum. When the chap at the reception asked if we were in London for anything special and we explained, we were immediately upgraded to a suite, and a congratulatory dessert and card from the staff...

Recently returned from another enjoyable stay at the Athenaeum and this time we received a complimentary upgrade to a suite. It was fabulous, thank you! I actually love everything about this hotel: the location, my favourite in London; the friendly staff; the breakfast; the spa; and, of course, our spacious, luxurious suite with the most comfortable bed ever and my...

This is the place to stay in downtown London. The rooms are great - simple, comfortable, clean and always ready when I arrive. The hotel has been renovated recently too and the Lobby and restaurant are awesome. The practical location means if you are travelling East, West or staying in Mayfair, you are well located in all directions. A few...

We stayed here for two nights earlier this year and were really impressed by the friendly staff who made us feel very welcome and special. The room was huge and extremely comfortable; breakfast was delicious with a varied menu cooked perfectly. Thanks for a memorable stay - we have already booked again to celebrate a birthday in May.

My wife and I stayed here last month. It is a bastion of civility, located in various Residential and Business Area, close tomsome great little restaurants, and walking distance to many London tourist venues. It has all the graces of a large hotel, yet staff treat you as family, more like a country inn than a large, impersonal hotel. Have...

Superb location. It may look small but it makes up for it in many other ways. The refurbishment has resulted in a very modern hotel and the bar has been very well designed. The prices of food and drinks are extremely competitive. It also has a small but excellent spa again the services are well priced again considering the location....

I love the Athenaeum, its style, its location and, generally, its service. We had a weekend there early in February to celebrate my wife's birthday. For the first time we ate a meal in the restaurant when we hosted a lunch for some friends. Everything was perfect apart from 2 things. First the bar took over thirty minutes to bring...

I go about 3 times a year to London and I always stay at The Athenaeum! It's a warm and friendly place with excellent service, perfect location, good bar and good food. The standard rooms are a little small but then it is London ! Still, the beds are extremely confortable and I enjoy having the Nespresso machine in the...

Staying in Mayfair

Neighbourhood Profile
Mayfair
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.

“I would have been even more positive if the rooms had a little bit more personality. Funny colors - but that´s just taste. Our bathroom could have used som love... I also missed at "proper" reception desk, there was a bit confusion with a delivery we had to the hotel for example and it wasn´t clear who worked with what. ”
