Detailed Reviews
Stayed here twice, once just after Christmas and then again in the 2nd week of January. The rooms were quirky, in fact the whole hotel had a lovely quirkiness about it. The staff were friendly. Breakfast wasn't all that appetising, so we opted to go elsewhere. The location is handy to Kings Cross Station and St Pancras Station (for the Eurostar). A nice pub (Stringers Arms) is a 5 minute walk away, and serves a crackin' pint and a nice meal. The British Library isn't too far away either (if that's your thing). I liked that the "rooms" had a separate lounge area, bathroom area, and the bedroom, just like a miniature apartment. A laundrette is also a 5min walk away if you need to get washing done. The bed was comfy, even though it wasn't really a King Size bed, even though it was advertised as such. All in all, a nice stay

Hi AusTwo, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your review of your stay at The Gyle. We are glad you have enjoyed the quirkiness of the hotel our location and layout of your bedroom, however I am sorry you haven't found our breakfast appetising. Regarding the beds, please note that our beds are UK size which does differ from other international standards and we are sorry this hasn't met your expctations. In any way we do hope to welcome you back at the Gyle in the future. Best regards, Martin

The best part of our stay is Olly! He is the nicest Hotel Manager, providing us entertainment, guidance/tips to travel around UK, and carry our luggages to the basement room. It’s the finest services one can receive! The Feature Twin room itself is spacious, clean and comes with a balcony! Our fav would be the shower temperature which is easy to adjust and the pressure at best. Location is great it’s less than a 5 minutes walk to King Cross and makes it easy accessible around the area. I’ll definitely visit again and stay in The Gyle when I’m in UK!

Great location - within a 5 min walk from Kings Cross and surrounded by places to eat and drink. Seamless check in with a very friendly lady, offered complimentary coffee/tea and heart shaped biscuits. Our room was spotless and we also had a balcony (which was a small roof garden with lights and plants). The bed was incredibly comfy and the decor is fabulous! Coffee and tea making facilities in the room and also a fridge with both still and sparkling water. We found a Valentines card plus chocolates in our room which was a thoughtful touch. The bar downstairs is open till 1am and there are fresh pastries served promptly in the morning. We instantly felt at home and we will definitely stay here again. My husbands only issue was wanting a bacon sandwich in the morning 😁

Hotel that claims to be boutique hotel. Decoration with a very dark atmosphere.
No consideration of requests
For a quiet room requested on high floor insisting by phone we had a basement in the basement without natural lighting below the reception without carpeting with the noise of footsteps and suitcases!!! We realized the huge noise during the night being settled. We did not say anything , reserving for this opinion.
Only one friendly person has the reception , the others especially in the morning not even saying hello. The only person with a customer relationship is the housekeeper.
Handkerchiefs in the bedroom not replaced
Wc located between the washbasin area and the shower area!
Breakfast certainly announced continental but without interest. Not even a choice of breads. Frozen rolls heated in the microwave , three four stale toast ....
No fruit salad one morning
This for three hundred euros per night.
Pass your way and their staff learn to listen to requests , smile and say at least hello .....

So I am glad I read the reviews, they were all true. The second bed is only suitable for very young children, for my daughter of 11 it was a terrible bed, where she could feel the springs. The kitchen is nice, but really under equipped. For example there aren't four breakfast cups. We had bad luck with the shower being cold one day, they offered us to shower in a different room and gave us complimentary breakfast, which was an excellent solution. There was a lot of noise from the room upstairs, people walking and talking a lot in the middle of the night. The location is perfect, you can find the underground station really close.

The rooms were nice enough and the hotel is well kept, however we unfortunately booked the hotel through booking.com and the complicated nature of the website meant that we thought that breakfast was included in our two rooms that cost around £450. We had also booked this more than 6 months in advance. It also said “Breakfast 7-11” on our booking, and this is what we were told upon arrival. Our experience that followed was very different. Having arrived at the hotel on the Saturday evening and having a train to catch at 9am the next morning, we arrived in the restaurant at 7:30am on Sunday wanting breakfast. We were informed breakfast actually started at 8am, we couldn’t touch anything until then despite it all being displayed on the side. After being told that we could have some pastries to accommodate our time schedule, we were aggressively stopped by another member of staff who told one of our party to put the pastry down. Another member of staff ran over to us and then informed us that despite what our booking said, and the expensive cost of the room, we did not have breakfast included in our fee and it would be a total of £60 for 4 people. This restaurant did not even serve hot food, it was all pastries and continental. Feeling frustrated and angry we were ushered away from the restaurant, where we did not bother to hang around and this prompted us to check out immediately having been treated in such a rude way. We will not be staying here again - for £450 for one night and two rooms it is insanely overpriced with some incredibly aggressive staff. £60 for some pastries and cold meat for 4 people is a complete fantasy - and this hotel needs to sort out their booking system asap.

My husband and I stayed at the Gyle for our final night of our vacation. The hotel is in a good location BUT we had some major issues with their customer service and electricity. Most importantly, the Gyle offered us a full refund (on their own volition) and then never processed the refund or responded to our emails or travel website emails. Very deceptive practice. Issues: (1) The website does not clearly advertise there is no elevator. We were on the 3rd floor. We asked for assistance taking the bags up which they said would be taken care of. An hour after waiting we found them still sitting in the lobby area so my husband made multiple trips to bring them up. For many people this would not be feasible. (2) None of the electricity plugs in the room worked. We talked to the reception team and they tried to flip some switches but ultimately this meant that we had no ability to charge or use any electronics during our stay. (3) When we realized there was no electricity in the room my husband spoke with the night manager. After they realized they couldn't fix it, the night manager offered a full refund for the evening. In the morning we confirmed the refund with the receptionist who said their manager would take care of processing it since we booked through a travel website. After our return we sent two emails to the email address they told us to use to confirm the refund was proceeding. When we didn't get any response, we contacted the travel website we booked through and they said they would take over processing the refund. After 2 weeks they said they tried multiple times to contact the property but were unable to get confirmation. The irony is we didn't even ask for the refund, they offered it and then reconfirmed it before we left. For a $400 hotel room we expected some basic service and electricity....very poor service and would not recommend based on our experience.

Overall, the hotel was clean, conformable and quiet. Only negatives were the shower, toilet area was quite cramped. \also we needed more in room instructions on use of shower and especially control of the lights - just asking all the time is no fun.

My partner booked The Gyle hotel for my 30th Birthday (28th August), what a treat!
We struggled to find the hotel at first as we thought the road was closed, we called the hotel and ask for help as we were down a different street. We spoke to Steven on the front desk who was more than happy to direct us to the hotel, we got a bit lost and called back again and we asked if he didn't mind coming to find us and jumping in the car to show us where to go.
Steven is an absolute diamond, he showed us the route and where to park. I am glad we got to meet him as his shift had finish as we called the front desk, but he was still willing to meet us and make sure we made it to the hotel. He then offered to take our bags, he kindly showed us to the front desk, while making conversation with us about our stay and what we were celebrating, he was very enthusiastic about describing the hotel and all its features, very polite and helpful. Steven was delight, to be greeted by such a warm and welcoming person on arrival made our evening start off so special, he even made sure he wished me Happy Birthday and hoped I had a great night. Its hard-to-find people who take a genuine interest in your stay and plans, so Thank you Steven!
We parked right outside this pretty little townhouse building, parking was free until 8.30am, which is not bad if you willing to wake up and move the car. My partner is an early bird so no problem for us.
After Steven, had helped us with our luggage, he then handed us over to Olly, such a lovely man. Olly checked us in showed us around the hotel, explained everything we needed to know he was so bubbly and funny. Olly was very helpful, great cocktail maker too and made sure we had everything we need.
The Hotel is stunning! I love green so I was in my element. The bar was quirky, and the swing was very cool. solid oak flooring, vintage mirrors, Scottish textiles. The
I had a little look around while my partner finished checking in. I love the fresh moss on the ceiling ,all the little trinkets look live they have been collected over the years.
Olly showed us to the room. Wow , I was lucky enough to stay in Feature King with Vaulted Bathroom which has a sunken bathtub in the bathroom and a rain-dance shower.
Our room had a Smart TV with a Smart Tablet, air conditioning, Safety Deposit Box, Arran Toiletries.
The bathtub was easy to use, and the shower was pure bliss, An airline trolley is repurposed for your bathroom toiletries and includes a hair dryer. The bed was extremely comfy, and we had a great night sleep, black out curtains keep the room nice and dark. We ordered breakfast on Deliveroo and enjoyed this in bed, relaxed and enjoyed our late check out.
I couldn't recommend this enough; I had an extraordinary stay at The Gyle and am looking forward to returning. Thank you again to Steven and Olly for making our stay special!

Hotel very well located and quiet.
Cozy and chic decoration.
High quality bedding, but the advertised king size bed was simply 140 and clearly does not correspond to French standards.
Coffee machine in the room but complicated to use, switches everywhere in the room and again very very complicated lighting, even difficult to manage.
Nothing to hang bath towels in the bathroom.
Finally very disappointed by the breakfast, with little choice and poor service.
