Fantastic atmosphere, we had a booth in the back of the pub, was atmospheric and really cosy. We chose a city breakfast which was a huge plate of sausage, bacon, steak, lover black pudding, beans, egg, mushrooms and fried bread. Very classy As it followed by a pint of Guinness! Recommended!

Abit delayed with my review as stopped for 1 night in September as part of a wedding group. Staff seemed very friendly although check in could have been smoother as they had IT problems. We were free to choose any room and we chose the first room which we viewed which was on the 1st floor which faced the front...

We spent three nights here. We were very pleased with the pub and our room. It was clean, conveniently located and surprisingly quiet at night despite the location. I would offer one criticism, our service was spotty. Although the room was clean, it was not always stocked consistently, our last night there was no milk for drinks in the morning...

My commute into London is just too long to be able to get back after an evening event. I have been using the Fox and Anchor as my London dorm for over a year. Very nice rooms, similar in style and spec to the Hotel du Vin chain. The pub below is not busy late, so the nights are quiet....

We are Regular visitor to this fantastic little pub on charterhouse square. It serves great ales, including a unique house beer, and a good selection of very good quality food. Its not the cheapest pub for food we found but quality is higher than similar local establishments.

Had a brunch option - potato hash, duck egg and ham. It was exceptionally good. That and a glass of house wine cost just over £10. The pub was quite tucked away and quiet on a Friday lunchtime but I was suprised it wasn't busier. Much better than SoS and others nearby, and much better value.

Great place to stop and have some food and a drink after a day of sightseeing. Yum food. Sat outside and watched London go by.... situated 15 minutes walk from the museum of London and about 20 minutes from the Thames.

We were in here just after ten a.m. And found it open and serving already like a few of the other market pubs that service the workers at Smithfields. It's a lovely old pub with the sort of decor you get just about nowhere else in the world and is right on top of some fascinating areas like St Barts...

It's layout looks like it's probably always been, with lots of nooks and crannies and wood-panelled 'private' dining areas. The beer is as good (or better?) than ever. The food, though, was pretty moderate.

....owned by a chain, but they have worked hard to maintain its integrity and character and there's the added bonus of being able to stay at a Malmaison too if you decide to push the boat out and work your way across the pumps. Really quirky London pub filled with alternate long, leather clad benches and nooks and crannies that...

Staying in Clerkenwell

Neighbourhood Profile
Clerkenwell
Owing to its proximity to Smithfield Market – the site of an ancient meat market which remains in operation today – Clerkenwell boasts a plethora of globally renowned restaurants, fabulous local eateries, and some of London's favorite pubs. This isn't merely a focal point for all things foodie though. Spend enough time wondering through the area's maze of streets and you might become accustomed to the litany of slinky models passing between Clerkenwell's handful of fashion houses. Far outnumbering the models are craftspeople and designers, many of them are more than happy to welcome visitors into their studios and showrooms.

Nestled deep in the lively & exciting Smithfield area, the former original London gin-joint has been lovingly restored to its former glory and a whole lot more as well. The Fox & Anchor originates from the late Victorian era and has been serving the traders of Smithfield market for years. Grand mahogany doors, etched glass and heavy brass, we serve great British food alongside our favourite cask ales & craft beers.
