It may be an international menu, but all of our delicious ingredients come from local suppliers. The hotel’s award-winning restaurant since 2004, The London Carriage Works, serves modern British dishes using regional and seasonal produce alongside a perfectly balanced wine list of over 200 bins. When arriving in an unfamiliar city by car, other than where is it/is it convenient, a key question (for me) is how is one going to deal with the parking ? To answer the first question : It’s located half way between the Catholic & Anglican cathedrals, more or less opposite the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Hope Street. Parking locally is about £14.50 for 24 hours but the hotel has a deal with the Anglican cathedral at £10 for 24 hours. It’s just over 5 minutes walk on wheeled suitcase friendly pavements or alternatively, one can general pull over and leave the bags with the wife (or girlfriend/boyfriend) and park later – but be warned. There are more parking wardens circling Liverpool than vultures in a spaghetti western. You will get one parking ticket from the machine but you then need to go to the kiosk near the entrance and ask the guys for the hope street rate. You then get another ticket THAT LOOKS VIRTUALLY THE SAME. Don't mix them up otherwise when you come to pay at the automated machine prior to leaving the former ticket charges the standard rate - not the discounted rate. The hotel is nice but heading toward the docks & waterfront, everywhere is downhill (which means uphill on the way back. Taxis are cheap – less than £ 10 get’s you to/from most central places or you can skip the gym and walk – which is well worth it as some of the architecture is delightful. The staff are very pleasant (although don’t attempt to check in before 3pm) at which time reception get’s busy with everyone wanting their rooms concurrently…. Including the wedding guests (which I’m guessing the hotel relies upon). Our stay was OK but certain things irritated me. The low sink in the bathroom, the lack of standard 3 pin plug points (just 2) at the desk (there is a 3rd round pin plug ?!?) and you still might want to plug the kettle/coffee machine/table lamp in. Other plug points are available at the bedside you’ll be pleased to hear. We had a wobbly floor tile in the shower of room 121….. and the worse thing – you will be spammed by emails from the moment you’ve booked “how was your experience ?” : I don’t know – I’ve only made the booking online 5 minutes ago….. !!! The bar has a nice vibe – service was somewhat slow paced but the staff try hard which is nice and the gentleman on the night desk is a real asset to the hotel – helpful and charming. Enjoy the wedding….. if that’s not why you’re reading this…… then maybe check elsewhere.

I stayed for 2 nights for my wedding. I stayed the night before with my bridesmaid in a twin room. The room itself was fine but a few things need improving: - clearly 2 single bed that would ausually make up a double; this meant that one of us had the built in reading lamp in the way of our heads when sitting up in bed. - no toilet brush in the room (always find it unusual if hotels don't provide these) - I had gifts dropped off by my parents before my arrival with the request they would be given to me on check in but this didn't happen and I had to go and get them. - terrible pillows! This was the most noticeable thing for me, just so flat and floppy! - towels are a tatty and getting frayed The staff were friendly and amenable to my slightly late check out to get to my ceremony and happily moved all my stuff across to the rooftop terrace for my wedding night. They even offered to go and flag us down a cab when the uber cancelled right when we were supposed to leave. The roof top suite (429): - obviously has a beautiful view out towards the liver building - the jacuzzi was unconventional in that it's more of a shallow bath with jets but this worked really well for us as I'm pregnant so can't really use standard ones. - lots of space and lovely and bright with the big windows but black out curtains and blinds stopping it from being too bright in the morning A few things to point out with this one which considering the price being charged I feel let it down: - i can't state enough how sad the pillows were, the second night i asked for extra but it still didn't feel right - no stand for a suitcase, had to use the desk - again no toilet brush - very minimal nespresso provided, luckily I wasn't drinking any but then no decaff tea there - I was expecting the room to have a mini fridge with it being a suite and the cost of the room, doesn't have to be a mini bar but somewhere to put bottles of fizz would surely make sense in a room that is probably most often used for celebration breaks. - lights on the balcony were not working, not much of a problem as ambient light from the room was fine and we told them out check out so they were going to send maintenance up. - room service can come from either restaurant and we ordered from both - we were warned that dishes would come up whenever they're ready but that wouldn't necessarily be together, however we weren't expecting that even after trying to wait for a bit my partner would have finished his food by the time mine arrived. Surely the restaurants could talk to each other for these orders. We used the spa in the evening and the facilities were beautiful- really felt luxurious, my partner took full advantage of the steam rooms and multiple saunas. Using it on a Friday evening meant there was hardly anyone else using it and we were the last ones in there so that was nice. Shame we couldn't use the outdoor pool as they said there was work being done but could see it from our balcony and it looked fine? It looked equally as good as the indoors though, very 5*. We didn't stay for breakfast as really wanted to go to Moose across the road which we love. If the issues above were addressed then I think this place would be brilliant as its got a lovely character in a great part of the city, I just think the price of the suite is far too much for what you're missing in comparison to other hotels we've stayed at before.

We stayed here for 4 nights in a Lounge Suite. Was great to have a balcony and a sofa area but looking back don't think we really used it as we were out in the city so much. But still nice to have. Our room overlooked the Liverpool Philharmonic building which was nice to look at. Just had to make sure the blinds were pulled in the bathroom all day, every day. Room was very clean and the housekeeping staff we spoke to were all lovely and did a great job. Nice bathroom with bath and separate rainfall shower. Breakfast was actually really nice, was dubious after reading other reviews but was a good set up. Breakfast staff were also lovely to talk to. Reception staff were also dead on and always said hello when we walked past and were really helpful. Only thing was the fire alarm had a fault (I am assuming as no one told us otherwise) on the second night of our stay going off at 11pm. Not great when you are in your pjs and starting to get over to sleep after a full day of day drinking. This went off most days during our stay after that. Would have been a good idea to slip a note under our doors to let us know there was a fault or let us know if was being tested. Other hotels I have stayed at where this happened did this and offered guests a complimentary drink in the bar for the hassle caused. Just would have made up for what was hassle getting dressed and down to a lobby late at night. Wouldn't put me off staying again, am assuming the alarm will be fixed by then.

The hotel has now become my ' Liverpool Home' and I am always delighted by the warmness of the greeting I receive upon my return -especially from the reception staff - Hannah and Maria were absolute stars, Matt and the hospitality staff were amazing as usual and the lovely house keeper Andrea kept my room clean and crisp with a chat and a smile to boot. . The HH staff are a credit to the hotel. Thank you one and all
