As the title suggests, this was an experience and not just a hotel stay. My partner brought me here as a special treat to celebrate my 50th birthday, and our stay was both perfect and memorable. I was totally spoilt and we stayed at the Lake House in the Harriet Suite. From our check in (Julian was enthusiastic and attentive)...

The Gilpin is a must if you are looking for a little luxury in the Lakes. We stayed at the Lake House in the Harriet Suite; it is the best room at the hotel and is simply Devine. The staff are wonderfully attentive and make you feel so at home. The food is outstanding; a culinary treat not to be...

This was our second stay at the Gilpin Hotel and Lake House. both times in the Lake House itself. On this occasion in the Harriet room, what a room and what a view! The Lake House is truly stunning in such a wonderful location, most of the time you feel like you are the only ones staying there. The staff...

We have just returned from an overnight stay at Gilpin (8th July 2015). Over the past 15 years we have visited the Hotel, mainly for Lunch, and have enjoyed its ambience and of course the food. However 10/11 years ago we stayed overnight at the Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. To celebrate a recent birthday we decided not just...

We're just coming to the end of our idyllic four day stay at The Gilpin. We have been overwhelmed by the delightful ambience of the Hotel and its separate Lake House. The service has been superb by everyone from the receptionist to the waiters and including the extremely friendly family owners. The food has been consistently the best we've had...

We stayed at the Gilpin Hotel for 8 nights in April this year and loved every minute of it. It is a fabulous place and we highly recommend it if you want a 5 star experience in a comfortable atmosphere and perfectly located to explore The Lakes District. The hotel is just the right size, not too large, it's boutique,...

We have just returned from a romantic 1 night stay at the Gilpin hotel. We arrived and taken to our beautifull garden suite (Buttermere) straight away. Everything about the hotel, room and setting is amazing. The 4 course meal was the best food i have ever tasted. Cocktails were gorgeous. Staff were so lovely and they could not do more...

We stayed for one night in April and was upgraded for free. The room was very spacious and tastefully decorated. It looks out to a lovely small patio. Everything in the room, from furniture to tea cups, was beautiful. The dinner was about the best I have had in any hotel except those with Michelin stars.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
At the heart of Gilpin is a very passionate family and team, dedicated to creating lasting memories for their guests, who return time and again for celebrations and escapes. Warmth and friendliness are balanced with extraordinary service, exquisite décor and stunning culinary experiences. This five star hotel comprises two separate estates in the beautiful Lake District, with a luxury country house on each. At Gilpin Hotel all of the 25 bedrooms have lovely Lakeland views, most leading directly onto the gardens - including six Garden Suites with their own cedarwood hot tubs, and five fabulous detached Spa Lodges. The Spa Lodges were added in 2016, and are cedar-clad with king size beds, gorgeous bathrooms and a fabulously private en-suite spa each, with a convertible treatment area, steam room, rain maker shower, free standing oval stone bath, outdoor sauna and hydrotherapy hot tub surrounded by a walled garden. Add this to the mood lighting, fires, electric blinds and a state-of-the-art music system, and all of the senses are invigorated. Just a mile away at Gilpin Lake House, six gorgeous rooms share a fully staffed boutique hotel with a heated indoor swimming pool (for Lake House guests only), outdoor hot tubs and saunas, and exclusive access to 100 acres of grounds with a stunningly beautiful private lake. Our chauffeurs bring you to the hotel in the evening to dine. Dine in either the Michelin starred main restaurant, 'Hrishi', where Hrishikesh Desai combines great Lake District produce and classic methods to deliver unbelievable textures and flavours with just a twist of Asia, or in 'Gilpin Spice' a new informal restaurant transcending international boundaries, with an open kitchen focussing on dishes from the spice trail spanning the Indian sub-continent, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan and China. ... more   less
