My wife and I are very regular visitors to the Lake District probably visiting half a dozen times a year. We had passed the Gilpin Hotel and restaurant many times and thought we'd try out the restaurant, knowing it to be considered a little up market. We booked a table for two on the 26th April and as is typical...

Just returned from the Gilpin with my wife. Dined in both restaurants and we both enjoyed every minute. Warm, friendly and professional throughout. The rooms are nice and quiet with private hot tubs on the terrace. The perfect weekend in the lakes.

It's with great regret that I feel obliged to write this negative review. I'm not one to usually kick up a fuss, but the reservations 'team' at Gilpin really has gone above and beyond to offer such an unpleasant customer experience that I've had no choice but to cancel my stay, just three weeks in advance. I regularly stay in...

We booked the Lake House to celebrate our wedding anniversary, originally we wanted the main hotel but having seen the Lake house we wouldn't swap it for anything. From our first arrival were taken aback by the hospitality of the staff, breathtaking backdrop and finest attention to detail. From taking our bags and parking the car for us on arrival;...

Hotel was amazing as was the service and the food presentation. We went for the a la carte menu which is unusual for us when a tasting menu was on offer but we thought the options on the a la carte were more to our liking. All courses were interesting with something to make you smile on every dish. We...

Stayed here for 2 nights in a Spa Lodge. We had a great time. Pricey but worth it as it's perfect in every way. You feel really pampered and totally relaxed. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The lodge was fabulous and we enjoyed our own mini spa.

The good:- The junior suite we were allocated was lovely. A comfortable, spacious bed. The far end of the room was dedicated to a very nice sitting area with a country house feel to the decor and gorgeous ceramics that would have KBJ in tears. A genuine surprise were the patio doors leading to our own outdoor seating area underneath...

The Gilpin Hotel is a rare treat, tucked inside the Lake District National Park, it is a lovely place to stay. We were made to feel special as soon as we arrived, our car was parked for us and our luggage taken to our room. Originally we had intended for the stay just to be for the two of us...

Discovered Gilpin Hotel via the Northcote website. What a find! Lovely location near to Windermere. Very friendly staff-nothing too much trouble. Beautifully decorated and stylish interiors and comfortable room, with nice locally made toiletries. Wood fires in the lounge add to the ambience. 2 Restaurants-the Michelin starred main restaurant and the new fusion restaurant "Spice"-modern thai/Indian/Chinese. Fabulous food and wines.They...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
At the heart of Gilpin is a very passionate family and team, dedicated to creating lasting memories for their guests, who return time and again for celebrations and escapes. Warmth and friendliness are balanced with extraordinary service, exquisite décor and stunning culinary experiences. This five star hotel comprises two separate estates in the beautiful Lake District, with a luxury country house on each. At Gilpin Hotel all of the 25 bedrooms have lovely Lakeland views, most leading directly onto the gardens - including six Garden Suites with their own cedarwood hot tubs, and five fabulous detached Spa Lodges. The Spa Lodges were added in 2016, and are cedar-clad with king size beds, gorgeous bathrooms and a fabulously private en-suite spa each, with a convertible treatment area, steam room, rain maker shower, free standing oval stone bath, outdoor sauna and hydrotherapy hot tub surrounded by a walled garden. Add this to the mood lighting, fires, electric blinds and a state-of-the-art music system, and all of the senses are invigorated. Just a mile away at Gilpin Lake House, six gorgeous rooms share a fully staffed boutique hotel with a heated indoor swimming pool (for Lake House guests only), outdoor hot tubs and saunas, and exclusive access to 100 acres of grounds with a stunningly beautiful private lake. Our chauffeurs bring you to the hotel in the evening to dine. Dine in either the Michelin starred main restaurant, 'Hrishi', where Hrishikesh Desai combines great Lake District produce and classic methods to deliver unbelievable textures and flavours with just a twist of Asia, or in 'Gilpin Spice' a new informal restaurant transcending international boundaries, with an open kitchen focussing on dishes from the spice trail spanning the Indian sub-continent, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan and China. ... more   less
