Stayed here for three nights and really enjoyed it . The staff are amazing very helpful, the breakfast was very good and evening meal was ok. It's a great location with lots of walks close by and just over a mile to the lake.

This hotel is positioned on the top of a hill so not suitable for those struggling with walking. A lovely hotel with polite staff members. A clean and tidy hotel with bar and lounge also a TV room which we used as room TV not tuned in so only 3 stations. The restaurant is split to 3/4 areas with food... More

Just returned from a weekend break at the Windermere Hotel with Shearings holidays. Windermere is a tired but quite majestic old hotel, although it appears to have been refurbished. We were allocated room 19 on the ground floor. The room itself was reasonably but extremely cold. The staff soon gave us a heater plus extra blankets. But entering the bathroom... More

From the outside the hotel looks beautiful, and in a fantastic area. Unfortunately the inside does not live up to the outside. We were in the area for a friends wedding, so just wanted somewhere to lay our heads. It's a good job-otherwise you would have been really disappointed! Our room was a box room, with just enough room for... More

We stayed in room 212 (a twin) with lovely views which overlooked the front of the hotel and the lake beyond. The room was warm, clean and comfortable, the food good, the trips out good albeit a bit regimented, but overall the holiday was very good value for money. However, suggestions for improvement would be: A lovely old hotel from... More

We have visited many Shearings hotels but in our opinion this is easily the best run one. The staff are all so friendly and helpful and give really excellent service. In some Shearings hotels the dining room and bar staff have too many guests to serve and have to work at a frantic pace with hardly time to exchange a... More

A group of eleven of us had booked to go to Llandudno last weekend, only to be told on the Thursday that the hotel had been forced to close due to unforeseen circumstances. We were offered a couple of alternatives and chose the Windermere. The staff were extremely pleasant and accommodating, plus we were given 4 free drinks each at... More

A relaxing and pleasant break. Staff were good and eager to please but at times there was an evident language barrier. The decor was tired even though we had upgraded to a Premier room. The hotel is well situated and offers good value for money on a basic package but one would expect more comfort when upgrading to a superior... More

The first thing to say is that our trip was incredibly good value for the price. 4 nights half board (limited menu, but £25 allowance to choose from a la carte) including coach transport and excursions. In the light of this is hard to be critical, but little things like the TV in the room not working (unable to get... More

Windermere has been called the ‘Gateway to the Lakes.’ With mountains, moors, lakes and tarns it is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the splendour of the English countryside, right in the heart of the Lake District. The Windermere Hotel occupies an excellent location at the head of the village of Windermere itself. Built from traditional Lakeland slate, our hotel is listed by English Heritage, and is one of the oldest hotels in Windermere having opened back in 1847 to coincide with the construction of the local railway.
