Certificate of Excellence
The George Hotel is something of a local treasure, situated in the pretty market town of Penrith, perfectly located to explore the Eden valley with Ullswater and the Lake District just a few miles away. The lounge is popular with locals for morning coffee and cake, lunches and afternoon teas. The 2 AA Rosette Devonshire Restaurant's silver and ruby red decor, truly sets the scene for a superb dining experience, with menu’s that focus on simple, fresh, local produce. For more casual drinking and dining, relax in the vibrant Dappers Bar within the hotel.

This was a last minute decision due to the fact that we had no heat or hot water at home.We were perfectly comfortable and appreciated the amount of room with two chairs. though the ensuite floor was very cold under foot.

A truly dog friendly hotel with very comfortable rooms, good food and excellent service. Superbly placed between the South and Scotland. Penrith is an interesting little town and we will be back again soon.

Thanks for that great review. We certainly do have an old fashioned feel being a 400 year old building. Not to mention the wooden paneling and ornate ceilings. We have however managed to bring the service and the quality of food and drink service into...More
