We arrived after a day's walking across boggy fells to the welcome sight of Skiddaw House. We sat outside enjoying the views before letting ourselves in to the house. Shedding our boots we were greeted by Martin, given a warm friendly welcome and invited to make hot drinks whilst we waited for the official opening time. The Accommodation was great.....

I've been telling the members of our walking group about Skiddaw House for ages and last weekend I finally got the chance to take 14 of them up (including 7Footloose who has posted the review below mine) there for the night. They all loved the place and here's some of the comments that they've posted on our walking group website...

Stayed here last night with a group of 15 people. After a long walk over Souter fell and Blencathra the sight of the hostel was a welcome one. Suzy and Martin were perfect hosts. Very organised and keen to make sure we all had a great experience - which we did :) We had perfect weather and no night polution...

Having walked passed many times I finally decided to book a night at Skiddaw House. How glad am I that I did? This is a wonderful place with a magic atmosphere that comes from knowing you're miles from civilisation. Suzy and Martin are great hosts who instantly make you feel very welcome. Can't wait for my next visit.

Fantastic location and walk in. Great atmosphere with no TV/wi-fi etc. Suzy and Martyn are the perfect hosts and have facilitated a really special place to stay. It will certainly be an annual trip now! Thank you!

Stayed at Skiddaw House on Saturday night. A really warm welcome from the hosts after our 12 mile hike in from Caldbeck. The shared areas are very clean and well organised - promoting conversation and homeliness. Good set up with everything you need - right down to crocs when you take your boots off! We purchased evening meal, breakfast and...

Me and my daughter stayed here for one night whilst walking the Cumbria way on 11th August 16. The hostel/bunkhouse is only accessible on foot. There is a fantastic walk in from Keswick via the path around Latrigg fell. We were expecting it to be a pretty basic night in a great building in a fantastic situation. We were surprised...

We stopped here for one night of a cycling weekend. Amazing location and a really clean, friendly and welcoming experience. The wardens were very friendly and were able to provide useful advice about the local area etc.

Amazing views of the fells. You are right in amongst the mountains here. We stayed with a large group and thought that the facilities were excellent. The wardens lit a fire for us. The whole group joined in to prepare and serve food and there is plenty of cooking/prep space and loads of cooking utensils. You can leave your outdoor...

We visited this on our Cumbria Way adventure and it felt like we were house guests, rather than hostellers, from the minute we arrived. Martin and Suzy made us so welcome and couldn't do enough to make us comfortable, my cousin and I were the only guests that night and they joined us later for a whisky and natter about...

Glad you enjoyed your stay and thanks for giving us an excuse to open the Balvenie! (for those who prefer a more rugged single-malt, we also have Talisker in stock)
