Me and my wife had a pleasant stay at YHA Grasmere (Butharlyp Howe) over the X-Mas period. Staff members were helpful and kind. X-Mas meal served was tasty. Because of the price of the rooms we were not expecting anything special, but still were surprised that for such a small amount of money, we can get a decent place to...

I stayed here in October and it was my was my third stay at the hostel and again it didn't disappoint. Its clean, value for money and welcoming. Situated on very pretty grounds were you can see bunnies hopping across the lawn, close to all amenities....including Tweedies, which is great for an ale (or three)! The duvets are AMAZING! I...

I stayed here Friday 12th Dec for 2 nights. A fantastic venue, a building with lots of character features. The open fire was a lovely feature and with several lounges there is certainly plenty of public spaces. The staff were friendly and helpful. We often stay at the Helvellyn Hostel at this time of year, but as it was closed...

for the price the rooms were ok, some facilities could do with a bit of maintenance but this is to be expected with the popularity. A distinct shortage of parking, disappointing considering the number of beds. fantastic location, helpful staff and an excellent breakfast that leaves you ready for a full day on the hills.

This youth hostel is large, comfortable and efficiently-run by a friendly and welcoming team. Rooms, showers etc are well-maintained and kept clean. The food is very reasonably priced and tasty; portions are generous. Facilities for walkers are good, including a big drying room in the cellar. The location is fantastic with easy access to wonderful walks, and no need to...

I've stayed here before and love it. Beds are are ready made up, food is pub quality but half the price, heating and showers work. No real complaints. But... There's a certain dourness in the service- it was a beautiful bright but cold day yet they'd not lit the fire as they'd not got a sweep out yet this year....

We arrived quite early in the afternoon and were surprised to find reception open, a pleasant and friendly welcome, and our room ready for us. We had booked a 2-person dorm room and were given a really lovely, spacious room in the main building that even had an en suite toilet. Unexpected! The room was clean, there were no issues...

Had a lovely stay at Butharlyp Howe. Its pretty much what we have come to expect from the YHA: * The rooms basic but clean. * A nice lounge area. * Decent food. * Friendly staff. This particular hostel has the advantage, over say Hawkshead, in that its very convenient to the town. Been before, would go back again.
