Lovely room with additional sitting room area. The hotel is dog friendly and the restaurant served excellent food. Dr. and Mrs. Foodpriest indulged in a pre-breakfast swim in the spa, which is slightly tired but functional. An enjoyable place to stay.

Stayed in the Wordsworth Hotel however spent our evenings in the Red Lion which had a fantastic friendly atmosphere, lovely food and staff that went the extra mile. Of particular note was Daniel who is originally from Spain and who made the best gin and tonic my wife and I have ever tasted (he even gave us the recipe so...

Lucky to be on the end of the building so had nice views from two windows. Room a little cosy for 2, lovely all the same and recently refurbished, although only the bedroom which left the ensuite looking a bit tired and grubby. That said, ensuite was passable and had nice big, soft towels and good toiletries. Comfy beds and...

Stopped by to have a drink with a local resident in Grasmere that I have known for many years and this is his regular drinking hole. My wife asked for a Gin and Tonic and our friend asked the bar man 'Daniel' for one of his good cocktails. Wow - this special glass and concoction that he produced has had...

The hotel lobby and all the lower floor has been done beautifully and gives many different seating and relaxing options. However, there were many unfinished items in our small bedroom such as a sheet of plywood for a pelmet. The breakfasts were good but dining was only average though reasonably priced. The pool area had a nice feel but the...

For many years we have had our family Easter break in The Lakes. It is convenient for us and we absolutely love the scenery and walking. Over the years we have stayed in a few hotels and this year settled on The Red Lion. We always look for a spa hotel and one that takes dogs (although most in The...

We visited Grasmere as a couple, and couldn't have been happier with the time we spent in the Red Lion hotel. Our room was clean, tidy, well-stocked and always warm. The decor was lovely, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The hotel itself was excellent, and in particular we made good use of the dry room and iron after getting...

We stay in Grasmere twice a year and usually move between 3 hotels. During our last stay at the Red Lion (Jan 15) although we had a lovely stay we felt that it was starting to look a little 'tired' so we were interested to see how the refurbishment was going. We opted to stay in a newly refurbished room...

We have visited the Red Lion on numerous occasions and it has always been a favourite. However it's upped its game a little since the last time we were here, for starters a lovely new interior very welcoming but more so by the lovely barman Daniel, who whipped up a fabulous G&T (see pic below). Well worth dropping in for...

Booked last minute and stayed dinner b&b. We have stayed a few times in the past and loved the hotel. However the hotel is currently being refurbished. Some changes are for the better but some not. I feel like the hotel has lost some of its personal touches like the ambience of the dining room. I do not particularly like...
