We visited the Black Bull on our last family holiday and were dismayed to see the management had replaced the log burner with an electric fire. Everyone we spoke to was shocked and very surprised that a country inn would think it appropriate to replace a traditional feature with a souless electric imitation. Very disappointed. Bring back the log fire please. Atmosphere seriously compromised.
We haven’t eaten here for about 8 years but we always have a meal here. We parked in the car park and received a warm and friendly welcome when we walked in. It was very quiet so we could sit anywhere. The menu was vast and there was a decent specials board. We opted for the chicken liver pate as a starter and I had fish and chips and my husband had the Cumberland sausage. We also had two soft drinks and the bill was slightly over £46 for the lot. The food was delicious, hot and plentiful. No complaints here at all.
Stopped here twice during our week away and both times the place was faultless. Staff were great, food was excellent and the overall feel is very warm and cosy, also dog friendly. The lunchtime sandwiches are also well worth a try for a light snack. That along with the fantastic coniston brewed ales made for a perfect stop
The black bull was a great place to eat drink bluebird beers. the room we stayed was great for me the wife and the dog staff could not do enough for you and a great full english breakfast in the morning will return
12 of us came here for a meal yesterday evening. The food was very well presented, and a good selection for everyone. My only two criticism would be was no table or drink service, we had to do everything our selves. Hence why we didn’t feel we could leave a tip. The other thing would be that is was incredibly hot were we were sitting. One of the party had to leave and change into a T-shirt it was very uncomfortable temperature.
Very dog friendly, my husky was getting petted by all the staff :) They even arranged a quiet corner for us on Christmas Eve so we could eat without other dogs going by (my dog wants to play with everyone)
