We visited Cockermouth to attend a nearby wedding reception and chose 6 Castle Gate on impulse but we were well-rewarded. It is a beautiful, interesting house and a warm welcome awaits the visitor. Nothing is too much trouble, the breakfasts are ample, and it is a lovely base after a hard day's work being a tourist, or walking in those...

A flying visit - but everything was great. Great interior, great welcome, great little touches in the rooms, great value. From the outside it doesn't look great, but once inside it is! Could not better the experience. Thank you.

This is a lovely place right on the edge of Cockermouth town centre. Very friendly welcome from Sam. The building is Grade 2 listed and very interesting. Our room (Melbreak) was large and comfortable with an en suite bathroom (hot rainfall shower very welcome after a day out in the fells) and spotlessly clean. Excellent breakfast in the spacious dining...

Being 3 or 400 years old, brings some compromises compared to new purpose built places, but also brings a charm, homeliness and some history that not many places can compete with. Nice clean and comfortable bedrooms, lovely choice of breakfasts and a lovely host. Unreservedly recommended.

Very comfortable room in an interesting and beautifully kept Georgian house very close to the centre of Cockermouth. The tasty breakfasts offered a good choice including a range of fresh fruit and the tea tray in the bedroom was kept well stocked. Samantha and Mathew were very friendly and made us feel very welcome, and were flexible about arrival timing....

It is just over a year since we stayed here and there are new proprietors. The high standards have been maintained! Reason for stay was to go to the "Quince & Medlar" restaurant for a meal and it is too far to drive home afterwards. It makes an excellent combination as the restaurant is immediately across the road. Did not...
