A good price for a family room. Location in the heart of ambleside with tesco express nearby for the forgotten family essentials. We were concenered that it would be noisy for children with the pub below but that was not the case. There was a secure fob system to prevent anyone else coming upstairs to the rooms so it felt...

We stayed here on a two night mid week break in February 17. On arrival we parked in the on site car park and checked in. Staff were very helpful and friendly and showed us to our room. The room was no 3 a double room with a nice view over the front of the hotel down the street. The...

Food looks great and tastes even better, good selection of ales, largers and wine's. Fish and chips excellent, tasty burgers, steak perfectly decent, rib if beef was best meal of the week. Highly recommended and look forward to having another meal here sometime....

Only stayed one night , Mark who greeted us couldn't of been more lovely. Booked twin room but was a double with a sofa bed. Neither beds were comfortable, if staying for more than one night you may struggle . Best selling points the location and parking is included.

A very comfortable hotel, well presented room (Rm 6) with a lovely big bed and still room to move around. Bathroom is a few steps up from the room itself which was quircky but I liked that. The bathroom was luxurious with a good shower although hot water took a while to come through. Towels should have been a bit...

I've rated this a 3 only because I felt a 2 was too harsh. We didn't eat here so I can't comment on that but from the small interaction I had with a few staff, they were excellent. In my opinion the price is extortion for what you get. Although The room we had was lovely, comfy big bed and...

Friendly staff behind bar on arrival, we were lucky enough to bag a parking space too as they only have a limited number of places, so that was a bonus! Room was very nice and appeared to have been recently decorated. Large firm bed with lovely clean bedding. Great so far! Then we discovered the issue with the plumbing in...

We received a friendly welcome when we arrived, although it was getting quite busy in the hotel. Our room was at the top of the stairs and was clean and comfortable. Bathroom was a generous size. Staff offered us the opportunity to eat in and advised that quiz night was that night - with a very warm invitation to join...

We were in Ambleside looking for somewhere that does Sunday lunches with our dog and chose here because it allowed dogs inside. The pub was busy but we managed to get a seat. We all had beef diners and it was very nice, the roasted parsnips were especially nice. One flaw would be that the dinner did not come wth...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
If you're looking for a hotel in the Lake District, this Cumbria lodge is ideal. Set in scenic Ambleside at the head of Windermere, England's biggest lake, it's easy to reach from the M6. Nearby Windermere Station is just a 15-minute drive away. From Ambleside, it's easy to explore Windermere's 26-mile long coastline on foot, by car or by bike. Discover the lake's great choice of water sports, or treat the family to a launch or steamer trip across its magnificent waters. Just an hour's spectacular drive away is Scaffel Pike - England's highest mountain and a beautiful, breathtaking hike. Also in easy reach are Stock Ghyll Force, an awesome 70-foot waterfall; and Hill Top - Beatrix Potter's 17th-century farmhouse and a time capsule of her life. On rainy days, head for mock-gothic Wray Castle - where kids can don fancy dress and live out their own fairy tales, or use huge foam blocks to build fantasy fortresses. After a long day outdoors, you'll love collapsing into one of the lodge's double, twin or family rooms, all with flatscreen TV and free WiFi. Refreshed and relaxed, come down* to our cosy pub and enjoy a well-earned tipple with some hearty, freshly cooked food. *Children are welcome to accompany parents or guardians eating in The White Lion's family dining area. Please note residents' parking is limited. ... more   less
