We are regular visitors to both Ambleside and this lovely Guesthouse and they compliment each other beautifully. It's always a pleasure staying here. There is a private car park, it is situated right across from Hays and therefore a short walk into the centre. The rooms are clean and tidy, the host Richard is warm and friendly and the breakfasts... More

We've stayed at the wanslea 4 times previously and are always impressed with the quality and value. Richard and his wife are great hosts without fuss. Our room this time was a large standard double and was as usual clean and comfortable with lovely touches.a newly refurbished shower room with powerful shower and loads of hot water was a blessing... Having visited Ambleside many times, as my son is in Uni' there, we have tended to book central B&B's. Wanslea is perfectly located for both the centre and our love being lake Windermere only a 6 minute walk either way. We found it a lot more peaceful than being central, even though situated on main road and sleeping with the... More

Stayed here this weekend and it was great. Ideal location for the lake and town. Just a few mins walk to both. Top breakfast both mornings. Lovely and warm and we even got parking. It's not as swanky as some but that's not what we were after. It's spotlessly clean and location means more to us. Coffee and tea in... More

We have just spent two nights in the Wanslea in a standard room and cannot fault it for the money. We had a very clean and comfortable room. The breakfast was amazing and looked to be all local produce. Ideal location only 10 minutes walk from the centre of Ambleside. Will definitely stay again. The only criticism is that the... More

We have stayed at The Wanslea before for very good reasons: it offers clean and comfortable accommodation at a terrific price and the breakfast is perfectly cooked. Richard even gave us a sausage to take back to the dog in the room (Bonus! Dogs are welcome!). Regarding a recent correspondent's comment that the nets were shabby and there was no... More

Well just got back from this B and B and on first sight was not impressed I mean when you have traveled quite far and the first thing you see is the frontage of the building ...I know it's old and the stone work is impressive but the net curtains do no justice to the building ( no nets are... Very clean and comfortable room, nicely themed without going over-the-top. A little bit of road noise, hardly surprising given the location. Just a few minutes walk from the centre of Ambleside with plenty of restaurants to choose from. Don't expect to be able to park as there are only 4 spaces, but if you ask Richard he'll let you know... More
