My favourite hostel in the lakes. A little expensive £21 a night in 2014 just five minutes walk from the bus station. On the down side there was a note on the door saying you have to check in after 4pm. This is no use when you have travelled a long way using public transport and carrying your bags you...

Hi Sorry, but the main vote is no TV in the lounge! so we threw it away, just have to talk to each other. Said that before somewhere - As to the huge number of light bulbs - there are 3 single bulb sidelight/standard lamp things for subtle atmospheric lighting (how subtle can you get in a hostel?). However if...

My friend and I have just had two fantastic nights at the hostel, it was way better than we imagined, my friend is nearly 75 and i am no spring chicken either, the hostel was perfect for us and our motorbikes which we were allowed to park safely right outside the hostel, the rooms were lovely and clean and comfortable...

A stones throw from the town center. Friendly, helpful owners and a very clean and tidy place. Showers are hot and the drying room is decent. A very good place to base yourselves if you plan on a outdoor weekend away at a very reasonable price. Lick of paint and a TV in the lounge would bring it up a...

Last minute booking for a Saturday night with a friend ahead of a trail race the next day. Made to feel very welcome by the owner. The hostel is very comfortable, with facilities such as WiFi and breakfast included in the price of your stay. Downstairs there is plenty of space in the lounge area with comfortable sofas and armchairs....

We stayed here fairly last minute ahead of a race. It's such a friendly well run hostel. The toast & jam at night & the breakfast included of cereal & toast is a great touch. The rooms were really clean. I was very impressed with this hostel just a few minutes walk into the centre of Ambleside & will be...

You know what you're going to get with hostel accommodation and this hostel has a nice added feature in that it offers free (and fast) Wi-Fi. The sleeping accommodation is functional, although the only light in our room was a bright strip light, it would be nice to have some form of reading lights. The communal toilets are clean and...

Well that is a disapointing and quite out of the norm review. Yes, we know it is the end of the season and the place needs a touch up, in fact we will close in November until March/ April to do just that. Sorry we did not meet your expectations. David

Excellent place. 'Old and run down' in the nicest possible way. Love it. It's very clean and tidy and the staff are great. Always cleaning hoovering etc. Lounge is spot on nice big old fashioned room with big sofas and a piano. Kitchen is massive and very well equipped. Rooms typical of a hostel and again very clean and tidy....

The hostel, was situated close to the town centre and was clean and well run. We even managed to get our car into the small car park safely enclosed with a gate. The friendly manager was on hand to answer our queries and we spent a comfortable night there. The price included a light breakfast and there was a good variety...

The hostel is well organised with good self catering facilities. Big kitchen with large fridges and systems in place to organise people's food. Big oven, hot water on tap as well as tea and coffee. Staff very helpful.

“As the hostel runs a dormitory system, the smaller the room size, the less chance of sharing with a snorer.”

“We had the private 2 bed room it was a great option. You could lock the room and make sure you possessions were safe. You didn't have to stay with people you dont know and the sink in the room meant you could stay in the room to clean your teeth. However the shower and toilets are shared but these are clean and functional so this was not a problem. The room has great views and is the same price per person as a dorm bed.”
