A one-night Saturday stay for a nearby event. There is a car park at the back of the pub set away from the main road. We were made welcome on arrival and asked to fill out a breakfast menu for the following day which is good as it saves on food wastage. The building is very old and as you...

First, the good points: (1) Lovely welcome such as never happens at a hotel which is part of a chain. (2) This is clearly a family business - see above.. (3) Gorgeous bedroom, with four-poster bed + all the mod cons, and with (in our case) its own private garden complete with gazebo. (4) Superb reasonably priced food, breakfasts included,...

Amazing food, one of the best meals I have ever had, the belly pork is spot on. The breakfast was brilliant too. lovely character building in a beautiful setting. Lovely peaceful garden and duck pond. Room was clean and well decorated in keeping with the age of the pub.

I have been visiting the Chequers since 2001 and intend to come back for at least another decade as I enjoy my stays so often. Service has always been great and Mel, behind the bar is lovely, and her mother is just as sweet. I have been in all the rooms including the 'Haunted' one and always have a great...

We ate here on a quiet Thursday evening. Our meal took a long time to come (we assume that was because it was cooked fresh and therefore the wait was reasonable) but we heard the kitchen bell (indicating it was ready to be brought to the table) ring three times before it arrived. When it did so, it was extremely...

Just a note to thank you and your team for a wonderful meal on Father’s day. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food and the service was excellent, including an extra portion of food for our granddaughter! We came back for evening meals on the Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and each time the food and service was excellent. We felt very welcome...

Fabulous room 4 with 'olde worlde'feel, but with modern comforts. Food and service could not be faulted. Every meal cooked fresh, so relax with a glass of wine and wait for your delightful food choices. Black pudding is exquisite! Lovely garden in which to enjoy the sunshine and the village pub ambience. Smarden is a true Kentish village, surrounded by...

We stayed here one night after I was bought vouchers to eat somewhere up the road. The room had a four poster and was very clean, the bathroom was a bit quirky but it's a very old building so was to be expected. We ate elsewhere but had drinks here before bed and met the landlady who was really friendly....

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Chequers Inn...beautiful accommodation, top notch quality, and the food was absolutely delicious. We had breakfast and dinner and could not find a fault. Service was really good and the lovely medieval inn was beautiful. Based in the pretty village of Smarden - we were so happy with our choice of hotel and venue....
