This is the second visit here, it is very convenient for shops, restaurants and attractions. I stayed in the Family room and it was a room of a few contradictions. The room was spacious with Air con a double and two singles. There was a TV screen in the bathroom, very decadent although there was poorly painted doorframes. A lovely...

We stayed at the Castle hotel one night in March, the grounds are lovely, and the bed and breakfast is well situated. We enjoyed the small extras we had in the room and the room was a good size. The shower wqs lovely, the bed was quite firm, however this did not affect us. The only thing we disliked was...

The day staff were lovely offered to take luggage to room. Room was lovely with lots of extras you hardly ever see, robes as well as towels, hotchcolate, biscuits, toothbrush/paste etc. Very impressed. The bed was terrible, we rolled into middle (not out of choice) and was full of lumps. At 4am I went to find the night staff (was...

I booked 2 nights as a birthday break for my husband, having stayed here twice before I knew the standard was very good. On arrival the manager greeted us warmly and informed us he had upgraded our room to a suite (4poster bed) as our room was still being refurbished. Lovely surprise. The breakfast is freshly made for you, plus...

We stayed here while visting my son at Kent University. It was an ok rate, clean large room and as there are many students who work in and around town, some very intelectual resecptionists that was great talking to. My only comment would be that the language skills (and the serving skills) of the breakfast staff could improve ( but...

Small hotel at the edge of town. Reasonably quiet except for workmen on scaffolds outside our room. Not much could be done about it. As with many rooms throughout England and most of Europe, not enough light for an American, but easy parking, friendly staff a value for the price

You never know with independent hotels what you'll get. But if you're looking for a central location, a place with character (not a prefab block) and everything you need for a weekend break or overnighter, we were really impressed here. Why ? Our room in the coachhouse was truly spotless, recently refurbished and spacious, with modern fittings and still quirky...

We have just returned from a weekend break in Canterbury. I chose this hotel after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and thank you as we were so pleased to have found this hotel. It is a gem. The staff are friendly...we were greeted with a pot of tea whilst we waited for our room, having turned up an hour...

I have been coming back to the Castle House Hotel for years to meet up with family and friends for the annual Canterbury Road Race. As usual we were warmly welcomed by the Manager on our arrival and all other staff were friendly and efficient throughout our stay. The rooms are lovely and spotlessly clean and the room we stayed...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Castle House Hotel Castle House Hotel is built astride the ancient city walls of Canterbury and standing in the shadow of Henry II's Great Keep itself - reputedly the third largest in the Kingdom . This unique building is your choice for a bed and breakfast experience, steeped in history. Castle House Hotel is an architectural gem and a scheduled ancient monument. The main house was built in the 1730s, incorporating part of the Norman city walls, the Roman Worthgate, and the only visible remaining section of the original city moat, now of course drained of water. Here, surrounded by Georgian opulence and decoration of the highest standard, you are just a few minutes' short walk from the whole of the mediaeval city: the magnificent Cathedral; the maze of winding streets and the romantic ruins of the Castle and city walls... Book your room at Castle House Hotel and history and convenience will combine to make your stay both memorable and enjoyable. All our rooms have been decorated to the highest standards, benefit from en suite or private facilities, and provide you with every modern comfort from contemporary flat screen digital TV to high speed wireless broadband at no extra cost. ... more   less
