The Winchester restaurant scene is ultra-competitive, and a fair few now offer pre-theatre two and three course offerings. Brasserie Blanc and Cote do this brilliantly, but Hotel du Vin's offering was deeply disappointing. I've been going there for 20+ years, ever since the days that James Martin was the chef, and it has always been consistent. However, we went recently...

We visited to celebrate my husband's birthday and as a party of six we were sat on a lovely table in an alcove which made it feel like we were in a private dining room. The food was lovely I had scallops with sauce vierege followed by cote de boeuf both were delicious. The sommelier Ewan (who wasn't at all...

My husband and I (both 30) spent one night here on the Hotel du Vin New Year's Eve package. We booked very last minute on a £500 package (for the room, black tie evening - champagne and canapé reception, dinner (excluding wine) and live music - and full breakfast). Parking was easy and there were more spaces (maybe 20) than...

Spent a couple of days here before boarding Queen Victoria in not so far away Southampton. Nice room albeit small and a bit noisy one night but this was pre Xmas. Great restaurant and superb breakfast. We would definitely stay again.

I have always loved the hotel du Vin and arranged to meet some good friends there. It was a very disappointing experience from diabolical service coupled with poor quality food and it's not cheap. The food was luke warm when it arrived. I sent my steak back and it was then over cooked and tough.

We stayed at the Hotel Du Vin on the 19th December in the Taittinger studio suite, I have nothing but praise for the hotel and staff also. We arrived and were immediately welcomed by reception who then checked us into the suite. On arrival to the room we were showed around and informed of what we were to do if...

As the first Hotel Du Vin to open (in 1995) the Winchester HDV is smaller in scale than most of those that followed, but like many a modestly-sized hotel it nevertheless aspires to hosting corporate events, business conferences and weddings, alongside the traditional two or three-night getaway for food and wine-lovers. This can result in a conflict, whereby the private...
