I haven't been to Mcdonalds in years and was disgusted how dirty the tables were. We had to use napkins to cover the table. There also seemed to no one clearing up. .I always thought thT Mcdonalds pided themselves on strick hygiene. Now I know why I haven't been for years .

Stayed here recently for 1 night with my partner. We stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast package and couldn’t fault either meals. We also dined in the Sports Bar for lunch. Thoroughly enjoyed eating our lunch out on the terrace enjoying the weather. The room was very clean and spacious and we would definitely stay again. All staff members were every polite and professional. Hope to return in the near future. Thank you

What a fantastic bunch of staff and hotel! My husband and I stayed here for a work event that was offsite in a local town, our check in was lovely and we were allowed to park our car there even though we haven’t managed to get our room yet, everybody was so helpful. But they really by that point. However the team outdid themselves in the evening when we were unable to get a cab back from the venue to the hotel, there were no cabs whatsoever and we face an 8 kilometre walk back in a place we didn’t know!!! We tried for over an hour trying to get hold of a cab, to no avail, we called the hotel see if they could help, and Jason one of the managers on the nightshift came all the way out and picked not only us up in his car, but two other girls who were also stranded and he dropped them home too. We couldn’t believe the level of care and customer service we received, we would wholeheartedly like to thank the entire team last night for helping us out because we were in a desperate situation! Truly the best customer service we could have received. Also this morning on checkout, we were going to have breakfast which we had booked, but we have got called back to work as an emergency and they cancelled and refunded our breakfast booking with no quibble at all, such an amazing example of listening and understanding the customer, I couldn’t rate them any higher - thank you again!!!

I’ve just spent some time reading reviews back to 2018 and a lot of what I think about this hotel has been raised numerous times, with a promise from the management that it will ‘take note’. I’m sure turning the ship around after Covid and the ongoing problems getting staff present real challenges, particularly when you have to keep open, keep going, and with no wiggle room to stand back and address the basics. But this hotel isn’t 4 or 5 star by any definition, and people criticise because their expectations have been raised. I didn’t use the spa facilities, so more fool me as they’re surely a large part of the room rates, but I assumed it meant a quieter experience was on offer. Going to dinner at 8pm on a Saturday night, treading over pushchairs, and trying to chat above toddlers and babies crying, was really disappointing. I don’t begrudge families having a holiday, and note that Peppa Pig World attracts lots to this area, but I’d have loved a quieter and calmer dining experience. £120 for dinner for two should have bought us a really nice time but it really didn’t. Our room ‘key card’ kept failing so we had to keep going back to Reception and getting a lecture about how to use it (yes, we know how to use it, it’s just not opening our door - yet again). The drinks prices are scandalous (£3 for a small bottle of coke). Bathrooms have seen better days, but I suspect they’ll be last on the list of things to prioritise. Good bits? Our beds were comfortable, the air conditioning worked perfectly and was very welcome in this heatwave, the reception check in/out was very efficient and professional, the car park was free and we always found a space, the rooms were quiet, the shower was excellent, the housekeeping staff we encountered were very friendly. The restaurant manager was very keen to iron out some difficulties which had happened on the Saturday and we felt that he was genuinely trying to give guests a really positive experience. But this is a mixed bag and you can’t please everyone; families with young kids wanting cheaper snacks and a playground, older adults wanting a quiet corner, anniversary couples wanting the spa and massage thing with perhaps a party vibe, and the cruise terminal stopovers who just want a good sleep before an early start. If it’s possible to find a way of meeting these distinct groups’ needs so everyone can feel served, the feedback might start to be a bit more positive.

My friend and I had the Sunday spa overnight stay, booked via spa breaks. The staff were warm and very welcoming. Our room was lovely and we received a bottle of Prosecco on arrival. Our room was lovely and clean with a lovely view of the grounds. The staff who served dinner on 31/07/22 two young members of staff had exceptional customer service. The spa was lovely and pool steam and sauna rooms were delightful. I had a massage with Tanya she is an amazing therapist and who is highly skilled in her craft. Although we had a minor issue, this was rectified by hotel manager Tay the next day. Tay is an exceptional manager, he was very understanding and went above and beyond to rectify this. I cannot thank Tay and his great team for the wonderful experience we had at Macdonald Botley Spa Hotel. Looking forward to visiting again soon.
