The Premier Inn Portsmouth City Centre hotel is celebrated for its prime location near the Guildhall, offering easy access to local attractions and dining. While the hotel's tranquility is a highlight for many concertgoers, some guests have reported hot and stuffy rooms with issues in air conditioning and cleanliness.
Despite mixed reviews on noise levels and service, the majority of guests have found the hotel clean and the staff friendly. The value for money is generally well-regarded, especially for breakfast and parking, although there are occasional concerns regarding additional fees for room readiness.

Detailed Reviews
The price was good value, the room clean, the breakfast was fairly good, the receptionist friendly. I really liked how you could only access the floors to the bedrooms with a room key card. We were visiting the city centre so it was great having everything we needed within very easy walking distance.

Hotel's Favourite
This hotel is in the perfect location for central Portsmouth. We experienced friendly helpful staff a great breakfast - with good coffee and a sound nights sleep. We didn’t drive so can’t comment on parking. Only complaint is the small towels. We’d go back.

The review option was average or very good. I’d say more in the middle, e.g. good. Some issues with room key cards. On check-in we were told by staff that one of the 3 for our twin room & double room might not work. The receptionist struggled to make the lift ‘read’ any of our cards so she accompanied us up & down a couple of times as it didn’t work for her either. As often happens at Premier Inns one of the cards stopped working on day 2 of our 3 night stay.
That aside we had a good stay. We had rooms on the 4th floor overlooking the main street and had no noise either internal or external. The car park wasn’t far from the hotel & mid-day Friday to mid-day Monday was just £13.50. The air conditioning worked really well. The room felt hot on arrival but after 20mins set at 19 it suited me & it adjusted really quickly to whatever set temperature afterwards. The location is good for buses - which were free the weekend that we stayed - & very close to the station.
Breakfast was good. Nice coffee, fruit salad, pastries & better sausages than I expected.
I’d definitely stay here again, and really need to mention Kelly. So friendly & helpful and makes you feel that she genuinely cares about your stay.

This hotel is looking tired and not looked after. We were on the 5th floor and it didn’t look like the foyer outside the lifts had been cleaned for some time. The bedroom had that foisty smell about it although it was clean. Always annoying when you book a double room for 2 people and have 1 bath towel and 1 hand towel left, no phone in the room so you have to trail back down to reception. Then find you have 1 teabag, again plenty available at reception but you have to trail back down again.
The plus points were the staff, they were all very friendly and helpful, no complaints whatsoever. The breakfast was plentiful and good value. The reduced parking rate for the carpark was very good. We would stay again as it is very convenient but would lower our expectations for the room.

Perfect location for the Guildhall where I was attending a concert. Only stayed one night but can't fault this hotel. Receptionist Kelly went over and above what I would have expected to make my stay enjoyable. Recent surgery meant I wasn't in the best of health so Kelly offered to move me to an accessible room so I had the reassurance of an alarm if needing assistance. The on-site restaurant provided a quick meal prior to the show.
Coming out of the Guildhall following the show, the antics of some passers by was concerning so to be close to this hotel was ideal for a lone, female traveller. Also very quiet considering it's by the station.
The multi-storey car park used by this hotel is a nightmare. Next time I will travel by train or park elsewhere. Got back to my vehicle this morning and due to the parking bays being very narrow, found I couldn't easily access my vehicle due to an inconsiderate motorist parked too close on the drivers side and a pillar on the passenger side. Obviously not Premier Inn's fault but something to bare in mind.
Thoroughly recommend this hotel for a stay in the centre of Portsmouth. Clean, welcoming and friendly staff.

I visited here for the first time for 2 nights from 4th-6th of May 2024. I visited here travelling from Hampshire, New Milton. I have never stayed in a Premier Inn hotel before.
I came here alone as I was attending a concert at the Portsmouth guildhall on the 5th in the evening.
The staff were very attentive, friendly. The restaurant was very quiet which was nice.
The only points that I would say need improving is labels on the sink bathroom in the rooms saying the tap water is drinkable, to have info on the laminated poster to say about anyone wanting air con on in their room to have to go down to reception, maybe have small fridges in the rooms to leave guests with some water instead of buying from the vending machine.
Economical toilet brush for times the rooms aren't cleaned by cleaners.
Also to say on the laminate poster that you have to leave the card in the card slot near your hotel room door so that lights stay on. Phone in the room incase people do not want to keep going down to reception all the time or when they need something.
The breakfast I found was nice and tasty but wasn't hot enough or could of been I got breakfast first before my drinks of tea or juice. The evening meal was good and deal was good.

Lovely hotel, excellent staff, especially the housekeeping team who always said hello when I came and went from my room. I really appreciate the policy of not cleaning rooms unless asked , as I could come and go during the day, and not be interrupted by the knock of a cleaner. Situation is very good, just by the railway station, but easy walking to bus stops to any where you want to get to in Portsmouth.

Booked a night here before catching the ferry over to France early the next morning. Had hoped for a nice nights sleep but. The room we were allocated was literally feet away from the railway and so there was a constant rumbling of the trains until early hours.
Went to see if we could find anyone in reception to ask for a room change, no one to be found.
When we arrived we did self check in, this worked well but there was not a soul around to assist if we needed.
Just as we were working out which way to go to get to our rooms a young lad appeared, grunted and asked if we wanted to book anything to eat! If he hadn’t had Premier Inn uniform on we might have hoped that he was not employed by them. No hello, welcome, nothing.
Come on Premier Inn you really need to train your staff a lot better in customer relations.
We poked our heads into the dining/bar area and were so glad we had not booked to eat there.
The whole hotel looks dirty and in need of a bit of TLC.
Our room, apart from the constant noise was reasonably good although corners have been cut on cleanliness especially the carpets which looked as if they had not been vacuumed from the last guest.
My faith in the chain, always knowing what you will get is fast running out and think it’s
time to start looking at alternatives

We have never had a problem with having more than 2 adults per room in any premier inn regardless of only being given the option of 2 when booking. I work at a premier inn myself as a housekeeper so I would know we always get up to 4 adults stay in family rooms. However, when we arrived and was told we are not allowed to stay unless we book another room for £116 for one night, it was ridiculous and when we spoke to the manager he was very rude and spoke to us as if we were children and assuming we’re going to cause trouble. We were not allowed a refund at all so we had to buy a third room and we was told if staff see anyone in another’s room, we will be kicked out. I also know the basic standard of what a room should look like, Our room in Portsmouth premier in was well below standard. The beds looked used, there was a clump of hair under the bed, hair in the bath.. the list goes on.

This was really a bed for the night as we were going to a concert at the Guildhall. In this respect the location was really good, with great and easy access to local restaurants and to the Guildhall both of which were just a short walk away. The staff were really helpful and were the most positive aspect of our stay. Our real problem came as a result of the general grubbiness of the hotel. There were sweat stains on the headboard of the bed and there was a stain on the bathroom wall the origin of which I can't even begin to imagine - it looked like blood, chocolate or worse! There was only 1 bath towel for two of us ; also only 1 hand towel. The carpet was fairly grubby - my wife wouldn't walk on it in her bare feet. We are not fussy people but, considering the cost per night, I expected much better. I wouldn't stay there again unless it was absolutely the last option. None of this was down to the staff who I felt all did really well in difficult surroundings.

There is no coffee machine making facilities in the room just tea and coffee sachets. I think you have to go to the restaurant near the reception to have coffee. Although there is a costa coffee cafe on the end of the hotel you could also go to.
Hi Csenge P, we accept luggage through the travel website Stasher for non guests who wish to leave luggage with us.
Log in to Stasher and enter the postcode PO12TR to find us.
Hi Catyork91.
The Isambard Brunel Multi Storey Car Park on Alec Rose Lane (PO12BX) is a barrier car park. On entry you will get a barrier ticket. Just bring this ticket to the hotel reception, any time during your stay, and we will validate it to drop the price (from £12 to £4.50 for 24 hours).
If you're staying more than one day you can leave the car in the car park and the ticket will rollover while still keeping the discount price for each 24 hour period.
It is best to head straight to the car park (it's about 60 meters from the hotel) as we do not have a pull in or layby near the hotel entrance.
Hi Smiler52,
The Guildhall (and Guildhall Square) is less than 50 metres from the front door.
Also on Guildhall Square are a few restaurants (A Brewhouse Kitchen micro brewery and restaraunt plus a Wetherspoons and and Yates Bar which both serve food). Wetherspoons serve breakfast (if you don't fancy the all you can eat breakfast in our own Thyme Restaurant).
Many of the big name restaurants have relocated to Gunwharf Quays (about 15 minutes walk away) and there are many other, family run, restaurants in Portsmouth and Southsea.
We hope to see you soon.
