First time staying at Queens and stay in Southsea with work quite allot. The dining room and lounge are very impressive and breakfast was good HOWEVER - I was not really impressed with anything else. I was asked to pay £5 for parking my car on site which I flatly refused given that there was no mention of this charge...

Immediately greeted with a warm & friendly welcome by front desk staff, kind, interested to know why we were staying/if we stayed previously/how far we'd travelled. All members of the hotel team were very curtious & genuine throughout our entire stay, This is the only hotel we've stayed in as many times & continue to make it one we return...

Stopped for a few nights this week. The hotel is a grand old building with a very nice reception area. Clearly I didn't read the hotel information properly as I didn't spot the £5 a day car parking or the £5 a day wifi charge. Strangely both things that are normally free of charge but there you go. The room...

We booked the Valentines dinner and dance with family, it was an absolutely wonderful evening that too us back in time in such an elegant setting. We were greeted by the staff and made very welcome. The bar was seriously understaffed but this was rectified very quickly after a customer reported. The evening meal was well catered for, a set...

What a thoroughly enjoyable Valentine’s weekend we spent at the Queens Hotel. From the time we arrived to the time we left everyone was so friendly and helpful. Ate at the hotel on Friday evening, food was lovely and highly recommended. Breakfast was buffet style and was plentiful and hot. Saturday night we attended the Valentines Day Dinner and Dance...

Reception Staff were welcoming and polite. Our waiter craig was friendly and helpful and it was very good service. The afternoon tea it's self was lovely with a good selection of sandwiches and cakes and unlimited tea. Would definitely book again.

Had a lovely afternoon tea today. The staff were all very friendly and Craig looked after us with fabulous service. The afternoon tea itself was delicious with a great choice of sandwiches and cakes and have already booked for Mothers Day as this will make a lovely treat.

The first thing I noticed was the view - OMG it's amazing. The building is Victorian Classic with a lot of original features still remaining and simply beautiful. Upon arrival I had a really warm reception by Fran who got my booked in and sorted out my parking and wifi access. Parking and Wifi are extra's although for hotel guests,...

Third time l have been here and got a bigger room this time. Plenty of space and nice en-suite. Clean-ish room but heavy curtains bit dirty and didn't really fit which was a shame as the hotel spotlights shone through, Only grip was the tiny TV which was a long way away if watching in bed. Working desk and additional...

Having stayed many times in the past we revisited for a long weekend in January to celebrate a wedding anniversary, and again reckoned it to be a lovely friendly hotel with caring staff. The sea-view rooms which we always ask for have a pleasant outlook over Southsea Common to the Solent. There are steps up to the entrance, but then...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The original Queen's hotel was known as Southsea House and was built by the architect Augustus Livesay, in 1861. It was then a large private house owned by Sir John and Lady Morris and was later transformed into one of the first hotels in Southsea by William Kemp Junior, this is when it became known as the Queen's Hotel. In the late 18th century the Queen's Hotel had a yacht club that stood behind it called the Royal Albert and was also surrounded by woods, which were then called Stone Woods. On December 8th 1891 in the early hours of the Sunday morning a disastrous and fatal fire occurred. Aided by strong winds it raged until the whole of the premises had been completely gutted. The Hotel was rebuilt in 1903 by the architect T.W.Cutler into the splendid building that stands today, complete with its Edwardian baroque style in brown terracotta. ... more   less
