Detailed Reviews
There are no soft furnishings so the restaurant is very noisy.
When sitting in the restaurant the "stunning views of the common land" are blocked by the cars parked just beyond the floor to ceiling windows.
In the male toilets the record of cleaning checks was empty for the day of our visit and mostly incomplete for the day before. [Tip: have one record sheet per day and remove it at the end of the day - Oh, and make sure it is filled in on time].
The one way system between the restaurant and toilets was not clearly signed - most visitors to the toilets retraced their route from the restaurant.
The food was good.

Had a 1 night wonderful last minute stay in the superior room. Lovely comfortable and spacious room with great views. We also had a fantastic meal in the pub below in the evening and a super breakfast in the morning. I would like to point out that we had Emanuel serve us both times and checked us in and out of our rooms and really looked after us and made us feel very welcome. Things like this make a difference and me and my partner were very impressed with him.

A little bit disorganized on arrival, but otherwise all round good experience with friendly staff, excellent food, well kept ales and a decent selection of non alcoholic drinks.
After seeing the quality of the food leaving the kitchen, I opted for the starter of Fishcakes with crispy poached egg and mussels - great mix of textures and full of flavour. Roasts all very well cooked and beautifully presented. It was nice change to be able to choose how rare the meat was served. Poached pears looked lovely and cheesecake was zesty and flavoursome. However, we were a little disappointed with the creme brulé, which wasn't glazed on the top.

+1
Everything about The Old Lodge is perfect, it's location is amazing, sitting isolated on the top of Minchinhampton common with views all around for miles. It's obviously popular with locals as the beautiful garden was full in the evening. Our room was lovely but very hot and unfortunately we were kept awake by people sitting out in the garden chatting until the early hours which was fine but meant we had to close the window so it was even hotter. We had breakfast and evening meal at The Old Lodge and the staff were very helpful in accommodating my dietary requirements. I can imagine this is a beautiful spot for a wedding and at Christmas it must look amazing with a fire roaring away. I would happily stay here again but next time I'd ask for a room at the back which might be quieter.

We stayed at the Old Lodge for 3 nights. The room was large and comfortable with a beautiful outlook but unfortunately some of the furnishings had seen better days (the rug was grubby as were the bin and loo brush in the bathroom). It was boiling hot weather so a fan would have been a welcome addition as it was stifling hot in the room - but that's probably not generally a problem... The food was imaginative and consistently tasty and the team were friendly and attentive.

A lovely old characterful pub in a beautiful setting on Minchampton Common. The double room was clean and comfortable but small with an even smaller shower room. The room was over the front door of the pub and it was a little loud, but soon quietened when the pub closed it's doors. Dinner was lovely, with a good selection at reasonable prices. Breakfast was a disappointment though with no cereals or fruit, yoghurts etc being served or toast, jams etc - just a plate of bacon, eggs sausage etc. As I say a nice pub in a glorious setting but with rooms and their guests taking a back seat.

The Old Lodge occupies a great spot on Minchinhampton Common. We were out for a lovely walk and decided to pop in for a bite to eat. We telephoned to ask what type of soup was on today as we have some dietary restrictions. An hour later we arrived and were told that they were not serving walk-ins (just those who have booked). We haven’t needed to book before (aside from Christmas, new year, etc.) and the need to book today wasn’t mentioned when we called. The rating reflects the fact we’ve enjoyed previous visits but were disappointed today.

Nice Sunday Lunch. Eating outside because of Covid meant cold food. I think if it had arrived hot that might have helped, but it arrived just warm. However it was beautifully cooked, generous portions and lovely rare beef. So nice to be asked how we wanted the beef cooked.
Chocolate fondant pudding was gorgeous. Apart from a very long wait for food and tepid food it was nice.

Couldnt even get to book a table for next Saturday. After ringing 3 times, twice someone answering and then the line going dead, got through eventually. Were told we'd need to pre-order our meals for a large party (of 10) and pay £50 deposit. When I said it was a birthday surprise and how could I order on their behalf they just kept saying its company policy!!! We've been going here for years, never had this before, very disappointed
