We spent a lovely, relaxing anniversary weekend at The Kings Head. We thought a town break would be a great idea as we wouldn’t have to drive anywhere and be able to immerse ourselves in the history and culture of glorious Cirencester, which neither of us had visited before. We were not disappointed in either the hotel or the town. The Kings Head is a very friendly, fascinating ‘Tardis’ of modern and old. We were upgraded to a huge, comfortable room at the front of the hotel. The bed was magnificent, huge and very comfortable, in fact I was so blown away with the super comfortable pillows that I ordered some from the supplier, thank you Joanna from guest relations for helping me locate them. They arrived this morning - I can’t wait to have a little bit of The Kings Head at home in sunny Hampshire. We ate at the hotels two restaurants during our visit, sadly I wasn’t too well on our fist night so couldn’t quite enjoy the brasserie, but my husband loved it. The second night we were in the main restaurant, which was also very good, I loved all the art and portraiture on all the walls, a fascinating piece of recent history. Breakfast was also good, although no natural yoghurt which was disappointing, but only a minor problem. We will definitely be recommending this hotel to friends and family, a jewel in the Cotswolds.

Room Tip: Parking doesn’t really exist at the hotel, but the near by long stay car park was fine.

Hotel's Favourite
After having to cancel a booking in November due to the Lockdown, we eventually managed to stay at the King's Head and are very glad we did. From the moment we checked in to the time we checked out, we found all the staff friendly, helpful and very well trained. Our room (301) was a "Superior Space" booked through Mr and Mrs Smith and was one of the nicest rooms we have stayed in in the U.K. It was large with very comfortable Super King Size bed, excellent pillows and sheets and duvet. A double sofa at the end of the bed was not quite so comfortable for me but my wife thought it was great. Adequate cupboard space for a short stay and a side table under a good sized wall mounted TV. The table was equipped with kettle, various teas and coffee and biscuits plus complimentary still and sparkling Hildon water. The bathroom was large with good sized quality towels and both rain and hand held showers. One thing to remember was that the heated towel rail was very hot. The only problem we encountered in the room was a faulty strip light above the basin and although the fault was not repaired after we reported it, the Customer Service Manager Joanna made up for this by offering to move us to another upgraded room which we would have accepted if we had been staying longer. This was all handled in a very professional manner and eventually the light managed to sort itself out. Breakfast offered a wide choice with quality ingredients and the service here and in the Brasserie where we had dinner on our first night was excellent and efficient. The food in the Brasserie was very good with a high price quality ratio. Covid precautions were well managed with everyone we met wearing masks and plenty of hand sanitiser bottles and dispensers all around the hotel. Perfect position in centre of lovely Cirencester and we will definitely return when the pandemic is finally controlled.

Dear mixers, Thank you so much for posting such a detailed review which I am sure will be very helpful to any future guests. I am so delighted that you enjoyed your stay so much that you are hoping to return when this is all over! I shall look forward to welcoming you and will be happy to personally check you do not have a faulty light - how strange it mended itself during your stay, although Maintenance have now checked it over and there was a loose connection. It was particularly heartening to read what you said about the staff and the food and these comments have been seen by all concerned as it is so encouraging when one's efforts have been appreciated; thank you again.. With best wishes, Joanna Dunne Guest Relations Manager

This review is for the bar only. The bar is table service only. I waited 45 minutes, wasn’t served then had to leave. I pointed out I hadn’t been served and was only told, “sorry, I missed you”. If you insist on table service only you have to serve people!

Dear OliverP204, Thank you for your feedback which, coupled with the previous review, has made us re-consider our table service only policy which evidently is not viable when the bar is busy. While we appreciate this may be a little late for you now, rest assured that your comments have been taken on board and acted upon. I do hope that you will re-consider coming for a drink another time, and please do make contact if you do. With best wishes, Joanna

We called in for a drink at 9.30pm on 16th November and we were curtly told by a Barman that it was table service only and someone would come and take our order. After sitting down and waiting 15 minutes no one came and took our order so we left. Very poor service.

Dear RobertandAlison, Thank you for letting us know of your experience when you came into the bar the other night which is very disappointing. I shall follow this up with the team immediately as this is not indicative of our usual service and we are extremely sorry. If you would like to make contact with me directly, I would be very happy to have the opportunity to rectify this matter and restore your faith in us. With best wishes, Joanna Dunne

Spent one night at the Kings Head and wasn’t disappointed. A friendly and easy check in, a spotlessly clean well equipped room, excellent staff in the bar and at breakfast. A central location in the heart of the town, with a long stay car park a two minute walk away. Would definitely stay again
