The Amsterdam hotel is perfect adequate but not great. The room was run down but for the most part clean (all bar the windows which were beyond grubby). The maze of stairs was interesting and took a few attempts before we perfected it. Parking was a nightmare and took us over 30 mins to find a space - however, it is reasonably priced when you do eventually manage it. The continental breakfast was handed to us in a bag on arrival (consisting of a (cheap) juice box, bottle of water, prepackaged pastry, cereal bar and fruit) presumably because of COVID-19 restrictions but this wasn’t explained.

However, the shower was incredible, the bed was much comfier than it looked and the sea view was exactly what we hoped it would be! Location is great, so close to the beach... it is surrounded by bars/clubs but the noise isn’t particularly intrusive.

Unfortunately we didn’t get to experience the bar or restaurant but the bar was busy and the every seemed to be enjoying it.

Ultimately, it was absolutely fine but I’d imagine you could probably get a similar experience at a lower price elsewhere.

This hotel is certainly well situated and very easy to find. Just look for the pier! As I had seen other reviews stating difficulty with parking, we went to the hotel first and dropped off our bags. For £8 we were given a parking pemit and directions. We found a space easily enough in a safe looking road not far from the hotel.

The reception staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

The first room we were given was really far too small and had a dirty water smell. Thankfully we were given another room which, although situated in the basement was much roomier and better presented. If you do want this basement room - be warned as it is right under the bar and therefore will be noisy until it closes. We didn't find it too loud at all and the noise ended at around midnight (on a friday night) so not a big problem for us at all.

Breakfast was very limp with no effort put in at all. I understand there isn't a working kitchen due to the current Covid 19 virus but I do feel it can be improved to justify the £10 cost. Fresh pastries/muffins and a yogurt perhaps could easily be collected/delivered to the room in the morning, rather than a bag given to you at check in the night before.

This hotel needs a good clean and refresh. Its rather run down and needs some love put back into it.

If you are currently trying to decide between a few hotels, and this is for a special occasion, it might be best if you book somewhere else to avoid disappointment.

We were so disappointed with what we saw for the price we paid £250 for 2 nights for standard double. Looking at the pictures of entrance of main building on Marine Parade and the pictures of the rooms we thought this looks like a great hotel to stay. After spending god knows how long to find somewhere to park we went to the main entrance (well what we thought was entrance) we were told that the entrance was round the side and that it was separate to the hotel.
After we booked in we were given 2 paper bags with a so called continental breakfast, finding the room was very confusing but once we found our room we were shocked by the cleanliness of it, there was thick dust everywhere and to top it off a wet pair of children's underwear on the radiator as for the window it was filthy, after handing the underwear to reception we decided to stay the night because we had come to Brighton for a weekend event there. After one night of no sleep due to the noise even wearing the earplugs didnt help we decided not to stay another night, when we went to reception to explain that we weren't staying and the reasons why, we asked for refund for the Sunday we were told we would only be refunded £71 as the Saturday night was a cost of £179, there is no way we would come back here despite its location because the room is not worth the money it was the dirtiest place we have stayed in so disappointed

Stayed here for a couple of nights for work. I’ll start with the positive the sea view rooms do have a good view and you’re opposite the pier.

The hotel rooms however look tired and aren’t well cleaned. There are a lot of paint chips around the room and other signs the hotel isn’t well maintained. The blind in the bathroom had large stains on it, the shower made funny noises and the floor wasn’t level within the room. The kettle was also dusty.

There is a lift in the hotel but it’s small.

The rooms aren’t double glazed and I admit I was nervous when I saw the room comes with earplugs when you check in. Luckily we were there midweek so although you will hear the road noise with the windows shut there wasn’t a club night on which was a blessing. As there is a club next door I can imagine the noise from that is appalling as when I stayed you could hear people’s voices who were outside. There are bins for some of the restaurants outside the hotel and it’s pretty noisy when they empty the bottles into the bins. One morning a 6am a bin lorry also woke all our group up. Apparently rooms in the basement are marked as “not for light sleepers” I’d say any room in this hotel isn’t for light sleepers.

I won’t be returning.

The Amsterdam Hotel is right on the front, great view of the pier and a bar/club underneath. The room came with complimentary ear plugs which is a consider thought as it is a noisy position - we knew this when we booked. The walls are thin enough to hear the neighbours TV and walking across the room. Our room was a good size, toiletries in the bathroom and clean towels, free wifi and the ceiling fan was useful. My only criticism is the lazy housekeeping, significant amount of dust on the tables, tv, wall, skirting boards, headrest etc etc which I cleaned on arrival, we asked for the room to be serviced and the bed wasn't made, the cups were rinsed not washed - so there was still coffee rings round the inside. I feel this could be an excellent hotel if the staff cared a bit more rather than charging premium rate to ride on the location only.

We stayed for two nights in mid February in one of the sea view rooms at the front of the hotel.

Promptly dealt with by the Reception staff, easy check in and helpful about all things Brighton.

Spacious room with great views of the pier. The secondary glazing did not totally eliminate noise from the street or the nightclub next door, even with the earplugs supplied.

Our room was clean, fresh towels etc but the large wetroom/bathroom needed a deep clean. WiFi was a little hit and miss. It was difficult to login into the system but with a little help from Reception we managed. Our phones were fine but for some reason, probably signal strength, the tablets point blank refused to login.

Breakfast was in the Amsterdam Bar and Grill which is adjoined to the hotel but a seperate business. Good breakfast served with a smile from the very friendly and helpful staff.

Stayed here on a Tuesday this week. Initially it seemed great, I had called ahead to ask about parking and could get a pass from the hotel for £8 to park on one of the side streets for 24hrs and the location of the hotel was perfect for the front and very central. Check in was smooth and the room was ok for a single night stay, although I notice the ear plugs I didn’t really think anything of it.
We returned to the hotel after dinner around 10:30 ish and although we could hear what sounded like a night club I still managed to get to sleep as it had been a long day. I was woken by the noise from the club just after midnight eventually I remembered the ear plugs but even with them I struggled to sleep as the vibration from the sound coming from the club could be felt through the bed and in my chest. Probably one of the worst nights sleep I have had anywhere and I paid £100 for the privilege. I’m glad we were only there one night and not over the weekend.
I would definitely not stay here unless you are planning on partying hard and getting back very late. Very disappointed

Spent 2 uncomfortable nights at this dated and odd place. Their own website states in the 'Rooms & Tariffs' that a continental breakfast is included and it also says the same in the hotel information booklet in the rooms. You actually get nothing even when you're paying £170 a night for a standard double room (£26 per night more than their website states).
We witnessed other guests complaining about this just as we were checking in which wasn't a great start.

Our room was very old fashioned in appearance, odd furnishings throughout which didn't match and the bed was very uncomfortable. The fixed to the wall hair dryer in the bathroom didn't work and the skid marks in the toilet were a particularly nice touch. The spot lamps on the bed were next to useless and the WiFi was very temperamental.
Travel website descriptions say that the hotel has been recently renovated but we saw no sign of this anywhere, if it was it must've been over ten years ago!?

When we went for breakfast the first morning we were told by the receptionist that there was none available and maybe if we emailed the hotel we might get some money back.
When we checked out we raised the issue of no breakfast with the manager even though the website and room booklet state their would be and we were told that the people who design the hotel website haven't updated things yet!? I said that it was misleading and that paying £340 for 2 nights wasn't right for the stay we recieved to which we got no hint of any money back and just a "sorry".

The seafront location of this hotel is the only positive and the only reason I give it 1 star.

After arriving and then being set around the side entrance, the room given was so small and dirty , the view Was through a obscure window as behind this was a flat roof with vents. After complaining we were offered another incredibly small room but decided this was marginally better but still not very clean but at least had a window we could see out off. The light from the corridor was shining in all night too. The breakfast is a complete waste as it was a couple of bits of fruit , water , 39p orange juice in a bag , so would recommend finding an alternative. £122 to stay in a very unclean rabbit hutch is completely unacceptable and we definitely would not recommend in the slightest! A few photos attached.

Is there parking here as I've been told that parking is expensive in Brighton.
Answer from Francis G

Brighton and Hove is probably the most unfriendly city in the UK towards car owners. If you can, avoid taking a car into Brighton. Use public transport. A 24 hour parking ticket that is useable only in area "C" where the hotel is situated will cost you £8.00 for twenty-four hours. You can but this from the hotel - but finding a space is not the easiest of tasks!. Public transport in Brighton is excellent and day passes are available for just the inner city (£2.50 per day,) the larger part of the city that costs a bit more and for anywhere that is about £7.00 from memory.
